Literally been looking for 95th Rifles painting tutorials for the past few weeks. I've been binging the Sharpe TV series again and was thinking, 'I wish Sonic Sledgehammer had a painting tutorial for this.' Low and behold.
Vallejo German Grey is such a neat color, it can look both blue and black in different places on the same mini. It was out of stock for so long where I buy paints, but now that I have it, it is such an enjoyable color to play with.
The video comes at exactly the right time. I've been pushing 20 Riflemen around on my desk for 2 months without knowing how best to start. Thank you for the tutorial and your work.
For what it's worth, I looked up the hex code for Rifle Green a while back (444C38, if you're curious), and then checked Encycolorpedia for the closest match I could find when it came to miniature paints. The Vallejo Luftwaffe Camo Green (434F38) that you picked was the closest, and comes in at a delta E of 1.98, which means you're unlikely to notice the difference unless you closely compare the two side by side. (Reaper Master Olive Drab has the same hex code, by the way, if you prefer their paints and can get them.)
Don’t mention the uniform colours, it only encourages “Them”. I’m no expert but in one of the books Cornwall describes the riflemen as, British coats, French packs, and Spanish trousers. As long as the jacket is some sort of darkish green the rest doesn’t matter.
Thanks for the video! I recently did my AW riflemen in a very similar way to you! Very good models. Still looking for riflemen in a marching position 😅! Keep it up, your videos are fundamental for the hobby. Ciao from Italia 🇮🇹
A great tutorial, you are very right about the lack of uniformity as campaigning has its effect on tunics etc and reminder I have the sharpe figures from brigade games stashed somewhere in the lead pile.
Awesome as always! I have a box 📦 of Bolt Action 95th Rifles (metal) in my pile of shame. When I go do paint them up, I will be reviewing this video again! Thanks 😊
I've got a feeling that for once the metal units would be slightly easier to paint; having moulded trim on their cuffs would have made that a bit simpler than having to guesstimate!
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio I hope so! Once I burn thought my commissions, I am hoping to start painting for me again. And those Riflemen are calling my name. 🤣👍
A simple but effective uniform, they were one of the first (regular) units of UK to employ rifles on the battlefield, and their weapons were more shorter than regular muskets, hence their "sword" bayonets. After all, before industrial revolution, uniforms' colours were very theorical, and fading could happen in weeks or less, expecially under strong sun, as in Spain, so dark green could be any colour's shade, also if some brands have a Napoleonic's section.
Bastards!!! LOL. Tremendous guide. I've gone a little off pieste with this one. I'm following your prep guide from the British napoleonic infantryman. Primed white, with the special wash and the dry brush praxati. It's worked so well for me for my line battalions so I'm keeping the method. Also because I'm doing 60th rifles for my Black Powder rifle company. So using Leviadon blue for the trousers and dark angels green for the jacket. Everything else I'm following your guide here which as always is extremely useful. I will be building a 95th unit later for both Black Powder and Sharp Practice so will be following this guide for that project. Will you do French Voltigiers at some point and more Napoleonics?
95th Rifles painting tutorial in under 17 minutes? That's soldiering!

Painting the 95th rifles? Now that's hobbying.
Just painted my first batch of these and I also used Luftwaffe Camo Green. It seems a good match. Really fun miniatures to paint.
A Very Special Thank you , Troy .

I just bought this box! just to make Sharpe and his chosen men! Thank you for making this.
Really appreciate you taking the time to list paint alternatives (different brands etc) helps those of us who don't like change lol

"bastard". Sharpe is the only time Sean Bean isn't killed off
It's the stretch of time he's been playing Sharpe that averages out his death count, I think.
he survives in National Treasure and When Saturday Comes. Rare occasions!!
Napoleonic video! Woo woo 🎉 reminds me of the first video I saw on your channel and the many great ones I saw there after. Thank you mate 😊
You ought to do a speed-painting guide to these lads so that I can chip in and go "now that's drybrushing". :P
"CHOSEN MEN! well I didn't choose you "
Brilliant job. I just bought a box of these. As always your timing is impeccable.
My friends just got me into watching Sharpe's Rifles. I figured you must have had a tutorial somewhere.

Another great video! Love those greens on his jacket!
The figure looks great! Thanks for sharing this.

Looks sharpe

Another good one, thanks!!!
Thx for the inspiration!
Painted 24 guys in 13mm (Warlords Epic Waterloo) the last 3 days. Thx again for giving me the last needed bit of motivation.

over the hill and far away 😂
Mixed strong tone with Matt varnish once too, totally by accident meant to use medium but grabbed the wrong bottle! Didn't turn out too terribly!
great video! I dont have this kit yet, but its on my list! Lol!
looks great keep them coming
Very nice stuff
I see 'Chosen Men' I click LIKE!
Great job
Fun watch
Applying a base layer of paint to aid with the way the later layers adhere to the miniature and provide depth to the colour?
That's undercoating!
Many thanks for doing Napoleonics! Any chance of doing some Prussians perchance?
Great vid as usual. Do you still use Aly's Brown liquid? Or is Strong Tone only used for these dark green uniforms?
Love your videos any chance you can do a Napoleonic french dragoon?
Would Instar Matte+ help with the Strong Tone sheen? 🤔
I’m so over contrast paints. Yes their awesome, yes it’s okay if you used them, but I’m just tired of seeing them.
