- In her first major policy speech as the Democratic nominee for president, Vice President Kamala Harris promised to "make it a top priority to bring down costs" if elected president. She also touted her new plans to tackle food and housing costs, slash prescription drug prices and expand the child tax credit. NBC News' Gabe Gutierrez reports from the campaign trail in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Inflation is below 3%. The problem is racketeering and price fixing among the major food conglomerates, which have posted record profits.

If one uses the old calculation methodology, inflation is 8.5%!!! Price fixing has nothing to do with this. Because she is a vice-president. Every time the democrats are in power, we move forward two steps but as soon as the republicans are, they dismantle what democrats built and take us back -5 steps. Now, with project 2025, they want to take us back before slavery, where people of color had no rights, women had no rights, LGBTQ+ were killed. Those times where a lot of people die for us to have civil rights, rights we take for granted now. You never know what you have until you lose it.
She's VP, not president. Maybe watch House of Cards to learn what a VP can and cannot do. She did the Inflation reduction act through the Senate, but she can't propose new laws.

A supermarket, on average, carries about 50,000 items. It seems like based on Kamala Harris’ economic plan, every week, somebody in Washington DC will set the price for each one of those items across the entire United States, regardless of where the store is. Does Kamala Harris have any understanding of how the market economy works?

1. Giving 25k to people to buy a new house will just raise the cost of housing, since more people will be chasing a limited supply of housing (law of supply and demand). This will make housing even worse for those who don't qualify for the program
2. The 25k does not come out of thin air. This will be paid by the taxpayers in the form of increased taxes or increased american debt (which will need to be serviced in a high interest rate). So you're hurting the whole American population and future Americans to benefit a small minority
3. Price controls are the worst thing you can do to an economy and will create shortages. Let's take it to the extreme. Let's say I think McDonald's is price gouging and a big Mac should be 50 cents so i make a law requiring big macs to be 50 cents. THATS AWESOME now we have cheap big macs. Everyone goes out to buy one. But what happens is mccdonalds will stop producing them and no one gets a big Mac. So even though it is 50 cents (due to law) now no one can have one because you've distorted the market price
the thing is, this doesnt apply for basic goods like wheat or cornmeal, which are used in tons of different foods. Everyone is going to have to buy it indirectly, and so fixing a price can ease the burden off producers a little @@KennedyIvy

Middle class doesn't live in financial fear, which many working class people do
Anti price-gouging laws are already active in some 40 states.
Anti price-gouging does not mean “price fixing” which was last tried by Nixon.
Harris is proposing to have this at the Federal level in addition to the exiting state level.
So despite the doom and gloom from the GOP and the likes of Fox, inflation is now under control and moving in the right direction. Just as importantly the economy is growing so hopefully wages will increase faster than inflation.

In case anyone’s wondering, our national debt is now $35 trillion dollars. If we could start paying it off at a dollar at the speed of light it would still take us just a shade under five years to be out of debt.
