I'd hate to break it to Americans but Canada is not the U.S and we are much harsher on gun laws and crime. We basically control the border because for years the U.S failed to do so. So, now U.S doesn't fund the Canada U.S border anymore. They make up such crazy lies. But proof and actions show you in the largest business crossing in Canada which resides in Ontario-Detroit border and Canada built the bridge, built the tolls, built the border patrol, and it's all Canadian. U.S doesn't even have anything on their side. It's so sad how bad these lies are and how so many ignorant American's there are in terms of what the Trump administration is saying. Put your money where your mouth is Trump and show some investment into the border and then us Canadians will start to take you seriously. Otherwise, shut up and go away.

The right wing Senator from Idaho forgets one thing: those of us in Canada who pay attention to geopolitics knows that increasing our military spending to 2% will not make anything more secure, and screaming "Russia, China!" over and over won't create more security. Especially with how unstable the US political system has become, we should be forging economic relations with China, not hurting them. All this political posturing is for cash spending on weapons we don't need. Weapons that, apparently, end up in Israel to destroy Palestinian lives in genocide. That we need to avoid. Our weapons programs aren't going to keep the Russians from sailing the arctic. We need to reduce our military spending and build hospitals and train medical professionals. That's how you'll build up a country. Oh, and most the drugs and migrants are going from the US to Canada, not the other way around. So the interview was a bit upside down in many ways.

I'm a navy veteran, joined in 1951. The Canadian government, regardless of the Party in power, has been screwing the military around for many decades. Equipment procurement is a joke and the main bone of contention. The annual budget for all three services is also a joke. I remember in the 1950's, in the middle of the Cold War, when Canada was first line defense in the North Atlantic when it came to RCAF Coastal Command out of Stations Greenwood, NS and Summerside, PEI and the navy's role out of HMCS Shearwater near Darmouth, NS. We all had a designated area to patrol out to our 200 mile limit from the coast and north/south from Newfoundland to the American border south of Nove Scotia. We were part of the NORAD system out of Colorado and completed patrols reported to them constantly. There were many Russian ships in the area and we were assigned to keep track of them in their comings and goings. In 1955, the government restricted our fuel consumption on a monthly basis to the point where a number of days before the end of each month we couldn't fly because we had used up our allotment. So here we were, NATO's front line defense, unable to fly patrols because we had used up our petrol ration.
I've been out since the 60's, so have no idea what's been happening behind the scenes, but in keeping up with the news, it looks fairly grim.
In 2024, with the focus on the Northwest Passage and the state of world affairs, we need to step up to the plate and do better.

As Canadians we need to take our OWN security seriously. Not only the north but our border. The president elect in his last term threatened NATO, he declared Canadian steel as a "National Security Threat" to justify 25 % tariff. He has most recently eyed Canadian rivers to solve California water issues. Then we have our north, we need to increase defense and we need to form other security relationships, like a CANZUK like alliance could provide. B.C. is 1.5 times larger than that of California, and we have about the same size population nationally, this makes it very hard for us to defend our nation alone. Part A: What do they think will happen to their economy that is in massive debt ( especially to the Chinese ) if BRICS ( which is approaching the majority of world GDP) figures out how not to trade in US dollars ? I'm reading that the US will not be able to manipulate its debt and the economy will take a big down turn. ( of course now that our wise leaders have tied ours so tightly to the US we go down too ). Canadian sovereign land With fewer international students, or fewer immigrants, which also means less doctors or nurses who could potentially contribute to taxes, who take care of our sick and injured, so who's going to pay? Do you want to pay $50.00 per ounce for Salmon, well, that's how it's working out so far. I guess you'll have to charge more for our Canadian products, since our products are so cheap, or taken for granted.

The Russian Federation is in no position to engage NATO in conventional terms as they have in Ukraine. Absurd to think, that Russia can stand against Eastern European countries like Poland, Finland, Sweden and the Baltics let alone Western Europe/North America after failing to complete their capture of the Donbas in 2+ years with two mobolizations and turning their industries to produce military hardware with 10% GDP going to defence.
Thinking that rushing to spend billions on weapons and equipement we realistically don't need while millions in Canada live paycheck to paycheck alongside young people literally being unable to afford to live is what is actually embarrassing.

Canada has money, unfortunately its being spent on immigrants from India's housing etc. It's ridiculous that there is barely a military. I am in the US now married to a US veteran who told me that when he went on a mission there were only 2 Canadians amongst hundreds of US soldiers. It's a disgrace that Justin doesn't care about protecting the lives of Canadians. I'm glad I left.

If Putin decides to drop supersonic missiles towards America, Canada will be affected and those closest to the American borders will be in the greatest danger. Putin recently said he would use these missiles without nuclear war heads against any NATO nation that helps America to attack Russia. He also said that he would warn the population before he hit them. So what kind of warning would that look like? One day or one hour, who knows? Moving millions of people out of the danger zone would be nightmare in itself. Depending on what country is targeted, those missiles could reach their destination anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes.
