Great video Leo. I was wondering if there were any challenges with the signal strength into the tonex? I have found if you don't get that right, it does not sound the best. Also, if you dial it in correctly, and then enable a drive or boost, does it hit the Tonex too hard?
Hello, I recently start to follow your chanel and i'm really impressed with The informations and quality of your videos. Thank you so much for share the reviews. Rafael from Brazil
I have bought a Tonex pedal (which was not delivered yet) and I have an old Boss GT-1. I want to update the GT-1 maybe by a MX5 or a PodGo. I’m really interested in your testing Tonex with MX5, PodGo, Plethora, Mooer GE300 or GE250 and Valeton GP-200.
I had chosen the GT1K core over HX. I prefered the way it sounded, felt and I actually prefer bosses amp sims as back ups. I became a boss fan because of the GT1K I've owned em all kemper, fractal, iridium, boss. I love the GT1K
Hi, thanks for your usefull videos. Perhaps, to avoid alarmism :) , it would be useful to indicate in the videos that each ms of latency is equivalent in an all-analogue rig to move 33 cm away from the speaker. therefore 9 ms corresponds to the latency when hearing the amp from 3 meters away.
It means that if you are 3m away from your speaker playing your digital rig with 9ms latency the total latency would be 18ms which is enough to make you feel disconnected. Dont you feel it if you play 6m away from your analog rig?
Yes, I can hear it, even at a distance of 5 meters I don't feel completely comfortable. However, if we go beyond 3-4 meters, someone who uses certain tools also starts using different monitoring systems: nearby stage monitors, in-ear monitors, etc... Of course, that's just my opinion :)
Hi Leo - If I already have the GX-100, is the ToneX really worth the investment? I'm wondering how the modeling/capturing of the ToneX compares to Boss' AIRD preamps. Hoping you can save me $400, but give it to me straight ;-)
Hi, the best things ToneX can do for you, are: 1) to profile your amps and couple them with all the effects you have in the GX 100. 2) to add more amps to the GX 100, which has a limited set of amps. If those two things are important for you, I would say that the ToneX is worth the money. Thank you for your message!
Leo I owe you an apology. I was searching UA-cam to see if I could connect my GP200 to the Tonex. I looked on the sidebar and saw that you had a video. 1:55 later I had my answer....should have searched Leo Gibson Tonex from the start. Thanks for another great video that gets to the point quickly.
Thanks for the test Leo! I hooked up the Tonex pedal to my Headrush MX5 and the latency was very pronounced, making it unusable. Not sure if it is something I did wrong. Any advice?
You are welcome! I have not tested the ToneX with the MX5...therefore I can't help...in any case please check out if the time effects are after the Fx Loop and if there is any possibility to set the send and return levels.
@@LeoGibsonGtr No worries Leo. Just thought you might have had some experience with it going through the Headrush. Just tested the Tonex through the GT1000 Core and there was no discernible latency so the Boss is definitely the way to go for now.👍
Grazie

@@LeoGibsonGtr thanks for responding! hey mate, i am looking go use the tonex with the boss gx100. i would like the setup to be (tonex as the amp+cab and the gx100 as the fx unit) going out directly to FOH. can this be done, and if so whats the connection/tone set up and button switching setup for it? great video, sold me on the tonex and gx100 combo

Been stuck figuring out if i buy the mg30 or the tonex because i have 0 pedals and do alot of recording direct to a mixer, but i also normally play clean tones r&b and neo soul. Can’t decide.
Ciao Leo, frankly speaking I do not understand why put together a modeler plus a device like the ToneX, instead of ToneX plus a multieffect. There are several options on the market to create an ampless setup this way, like Boss MS-3 (I use this), Plethora X5 or HX Effects maybe with less latency or compatibility issues. How about your view on a setup like this?
Yes, sure...also those set up are fine...but: 1) many people belonging to our community already have an amp modelling pedalboards, that they want maybe to upgrade 2) I can do video with gear I have and I don't have everything...The Plethora X5 is on the list for a future video...but I don't have th HX effect or the MS-3. Thank you!
I'm pairing the ToneX Pedal with the Headrush Gigboard for Effects using its Effects Loop and then going straight from the Headrush Outputs into my USB Interface/Mixer.
Hi Leo! I just want to ask if you still have your Mooer GE 250 with you. I want to know how is it going, (that is if you still have it) because a guitarist friend of mine had informed that he has other friends who have the GE250 but said it broke down in under a year. I'd like to know about how your unit is doing, thank you!
Hi, yes I still have it, and so far I don't have experienced problems. But let me add that in the last year I have used it pretty rarely, due to all the test / videos I'm doing in the channel and all the gear I have tested / used. Thank you!
@@gffg387 I've got an HX Stomp, and love it. But, at half the price and a built in Expression Pedal, the NuX deserves some recognition in this situation.

Hi, it should work, but I have not test it...therefore I don't know what happened to latency and to the signal quality after all the conversion... Thank you for your message!
hi Leo and thanks for your video ! but there's something i don't understand : you say the ad/da of tone X is 3ms. when you put it in the loop of lets say the gt1000 core : you have three an/na : one in the input/send of the boss, the one in tonex and the one in the return of the boss.but you say the addition of all is 3,5 ms..if we remove the tonex which is 3 ms it remains 0,5 ms for 2 an/na conversions of the boss which, to me is impossible it means 0,25 ms per an/na ......can you explain ? thanks
Hi, the latency of the GT 1000 core alone is around 0.5 ms (without the amp block). Adding the ToneX in the loop it reaches 3.5 / 3.6...I was also surprise and I have repeated the test few times...obtaining the same results...I have asked Boss in my previous tests how they can reach such results...but they said that it's an info they don't want to share...The only explanation I have, is that the 0,5 milliseconds of base latency is already including the conversions in the FX loop...but it's just a guess...I'm not sure. Thank you...for sure it's pretty interesting!

@@LeoGibsonGtr thanks for the response! There must be a difference in the quality of the simulation as well right? I was wondering how much better the tonex can simulate some famous Amps and cabs...

Plethora X3 after ToneX Pedal is working great for me. I still need to add a midi switcher but makes for a great sounding stereo rig. Latency has not been a problem for me but I haven't measured it.
I'm sorry, but i didn't understand why does the tone x has to be paired with another multi-effects pedal. This is not a full multi-effects pedal? What's the advantage of getting this pedal to use with other ones? I've seen some youtube videos about this pedal, but i still couldn't understand it very well. Can someone answer me?
Hi Ivan, with the ToneX pedal you are getting a profile loader, a reverb and a compressor. Therefore if you want more effects, like a delay, or a chorus, or an overdrive, you need to pare the ToneX Pedal with other units. Thank you for your question.
@@LeoGibsonGtr Thank you. I don't think it is possible to use just the IR in the GX 100. That is what I was asking. If anyone else knows, please chime in. Your videos are the best Leo!
Hi, actually the preamp block and the IR ones are different. The preamp block is in the middle of the chain, where the IR is loaded at the very end of the chain....Therefore I think that technically it is possibile to load just the IR in the ME 90, switching off the amp block. Thank you, I'm really happy that you like the videos!!!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Thanks again Leo, that is good to know. Unfortunately on the GX-100, the IR is within the amp block and you can't turn the amp part off without the IR.
I'm using the Tonex Pedal together with the Hotone Ampero II. I try to use the Ampero as a MIDI-Master (Ampero MIDI out -> Tonex MIDI in) - but that doesn´t work. The Ampero doesn`t seem to send MIDI CC-Messages. The other way round (Tonex MIDI out -> Ampero MIDI in) works fine. But the Ampero has by far the more "smooth" switches. Hi Leo. Thank you for your great work. I will use ampero stomp2, TONEX pedal and LINE6 Relay G10s in gigs. According to your video ,their total latency will become around 12ms.
Do you think it is suitable range of latency to play the guitar in gigs?
Hi, I don't own the G10s, therefore I'm not sure. Anyway, it depends from how sensitive to latency your are...
Maybe in the coming weeks I will do a video with a test you can do to check out how much latency is too much latency for you.
Thank you!
Leo any more videos like this for tonex ?? Would love to hear about more options, and also maybe some videos comparing DI
Hi, yes....I need to do more videos about toneX...but I have some reviews to finish.... 😀
i use Tonex One with Boss ME90 and sounds great! Love the combination that i can get from combine it
Great combo! Thank you for sharing!
me aswell, i love how its a simple but powerful combo
Ciao Leo,
I was thinking about combining the Tonex Pedal with the TC Electronics Plethora X5.
Before I spend the money I would like to have your thoughts about this combination.
Hi, I think it's a great and powerful combination. Maybe you can add some drive pedals in front of the ToneX...
Thank you for your message!
Thank you for the reply,
Yes I am planning on trying all my Xotic pedals in front.
Yes, good choice...I love Xotic drive pedals...
Another great review. Congrats Leo. How about put your marshal versus a non cab profile from all those modelers and mic to read their spectrum? All the best.
Thank you, I'm happy that you like the video!
I'm sorry, could you please explain better? I'm not sure if I have properly understood the question
Ti ringrazio
Ciao, si GX 100 è un'ottima scelta. Alternativamente c'è Ampero Stomp II, NUX MG 30 (qui spendi meno)...o Valeton GP 200...
Nice Infos! I won't make profiles by myself. What would be the advantage of combining ToneX and GX100 instead of just using the GX100? Is the sound of the IRs from ToneX much better? Thank you!
Hi, with the ToneX you can add to the BOSS amps, a lot of profiles / amps that you can download from the ToneX cloud.
Thank you!
I want a Nux Mg 30. Good value for the buck. Fit my budget for sure. Boss 1000 is nice just too expensive. Thanks for sharing video 😎👍👋🎸🎸. Nice Man cave buddy 👍👌💯
You are welcome and thank you for sharing!
You are welcome Rafael, I'm really happy that you appreciate the channel!!!
Thank you Felipe, I will see what I can do...
Grazie, Leo!!
I had chosen the GT1K core over HX. I prefered the way it sounded, felt and I actually prefer bosses amp sims as back ups. I became a boss fan because of the GT1K
I've owned em all kemper, fractal, iridium, boss. I love the GT1K
Hi, thank you for sharing your experience and your findings!
Thanks to share! Do you have an idea about the latency using a headrush MX5 ?
Hi, I have not tested it with the MX5...I should do it...thank you for your request!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Exactly the info I needed. Thanks Leo!

Leo, would HeadRush Gigboard will be a fine companion with the ToneX pedal?
Hi, yes, I think it would.
Thank you for your message.
No Problem Steve, I'm just happy to have been of some help!!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Have you ever measured the latency that stomp boxes create? Wondering how they compare
Hi, I don't ... so far...
Just tested the Tonex through the GT1000 Core and there was no discernible latency so the Boss is definitely the way to go for now.👍
Thank you for sharing....maybe in one of the next videos I will check out also the MX5...
This is awesome! Can you test it with headrush mx5 too please? Thank you!
Thank you!!! Let's see what the community is asking and then we may be do a part 2 of this video.
Thank you!
Grazie

PS: Can we get a mooer + tonex pairing video?
Thank you, I'm happy that you have appreciated the video!
Well, Mooer already have a functionality to profile amps, therefore I think it's a kind of a duplication: what's your opinion?
Thanks!
@@LeoGibsonGtr thanks for responding! Well that's a point but I sense that the Tonex does a much better work at it due to fully capturing and not just EQ matching an existing base amp model so it could be a proper addition (at least in my opinion :) )
Would be great to see a comparison between all the capturing/profiling units
Cheers, Leo your channel is awesome!
Thank you so much!!! Yes, a comparison would be pretty interesting!
Let me just add that the Mooer GE labs app does not just eq, but is a complete "profiler"
Thank you!
hey mate, i am looking go use the tonex with the boss gx100. i would like the setup to be (tonex as the amp+cab and the gx100 as the fx unit) going out directly to FOH. can this be done, and if so whats the connection/tone set up and button switching setup for it? great video, sold me on the tonex and gx100 combo
Hi, I think it's a great couple. I would use the ToneX in the effect loop of the GX100...I would also like to do a video about this couple...maybe in the coming weeks.
Thank you!
@@LeoGibsonGtr that would be a great video, might be just what i need to see if i should pull the plug for my use case
@@LeoGibsonGtr I love your channel. Please do a video with the ToneX and the GX-100. I've got both and would love your input and tips.
Been stuck figuring out if i buy the mg30 or the tonex because i have 0 pedals and do alot of recording direct to a mixer, but i also normally play clean tones r&b and neo soul. Can’t decide.
yes, it's an hard choice...having zero pedals, maybe the MG 30 could be more useful...as it is also a complete pedal platform.
Thank you!
Leo setting the comparison bar once again!
Thank youuuuuu!
Yes, sure...also those set up are fine...but:
1) many people belonging to our community already have an amp modelling pedalboards, that they want maybe to upgrade
2) I can do video with gear I have and I don't have everything...The Plethora X5 is on the list for a future video...but I don't have th HX effect or the MS-3.
Thank you!
Thank you Leo for another informative video. You rock!
You are welcome and I'm happy that you appreciate the video!
I'm pairing the ToneX Pedal with the Headrush Gigboard for Effects using its Effects Loop and then going straight from the Headrush Outputs into my USB Interface/Mixer.
Hi, yes, nice couple!
Thank you for sharing!
How does it feel with the gigboard? I have one and planning to get tone x to pair with it and worried about latency.
@@jimbo121 There is no noticeable latency!
Thank you!

The NuX and ToneX looks like a particularly good, affordable combination, and you get an Expression Pedal too.
Yes, I do agree! Thank you for your comment!
Nah dude, the HX stomp is the best affordable companion to the Tonex.
@@gffg387 I've got an HX Stomp, and love it. But, at half the price and a built in Expression Pedal, the NuX deserves some recognition in this situation.
The fact is: the Nux has only midi over usb, so you can't use midi and the pc editor at the same time

I’m from India. Is Ampero 2 is okay to purchase? please suggest me Good one .
Hi, yes, I think it's ok.
Grazie
Great comparison. Lots of valuable information as always. I'm just wondering why Amplitube didn't go the all-in-one solution method and put the functionality of some of the modelers that you're using right directly into the Tone X. Seems like it would have been a no-brainer. Keep up the good work Leo. Your content is always entertaining and informative. God bless and rock on 👍😎🎸
Thank you! Yes, it's a good idea...I think it's just a matter of time before IK will deliver a full amp modelling pedalboard...
@@LeoGibsonGtr I think when they do, I'll be ready to move on from the POD Go. Unless Nu-X comes up with something to compete with the Tone X. It wouldn't surprise me if Nu-X comes up with a competitor to the Tone X with the full all-in-one solution I'm looking for. I'm impressed with what they are doing as a company.
Hi, yes...also NUX could do something similar...profiling could become a sort of standard feature in the future modellers..
Thank you!
I use my tonex with the mx5. Is there a reason why the mx5 wouldn't work? I might just run my tonex into an Eventide h90.
Hi, it should work, but I have not test it...therefore I don't know what happened to latency and to the signal quality after all the conversion...
Thank you for your message!
Thanks for this Leo! 🙏
You are welcome!!!
hi Leo and thanks for your video ! but there's something i don't understand : you say the ad/da of tone X is 3ms. when you put it in the loop of lets say the gt1000 core : you have three an/na : one in the input/send of the boss, the one in tonex and the one in the return of the boss.but you say the addition of all is 3,5 ms..if we remove the tonex which is 3 ms it remains 0,5 ms for 2 an/na conversions of the boss which, to me is impossible it means 0,25 ms per an/na ......can you explain ?

How does the GT1000 fit in for live shows with the ToneX pedal ? Like the GT100 ?
Hi, it should be like the GX 100...
Thank you!
How much of a difference the tonex makes in comparison to the amp and cab simulators built in these modellers?
Hi, the main difference is that you can profile your own amps, with your own cab. mics, preamps, etc....for me this is a great feature as it allows basically to bring your amps with you in a very compact device...
Thank yoU!
@@LeoGibsonGtr thanks for the response! There must be a difference in the quality of the simulation as well right? I was wondering how much better the tonex can simulate some famous Amps and cabs...
I hear different sound with NUX combination. I cannot explain it, but with headphones there is a little signal degradation.

Which firmware version?
Is it possible to use Tonex with Impulse Response from GT 1000? Because I intend to make a routing with 2 outputs (1 with impulse response and another without impulse response for the amp)

Yes, it's a great combo too! The latency of the GP 200 is pretty good, therefore you should not have any problem
@@LeoGibsonGtr Thanks
If you add analog pedals it increases also the latency?
Hi, analog gear does not add latency, or just a very little amount..
How can you use the IR in GX-100 with the Tonex pedal?
Hi, I would not use IR in the GX 100 if I use the ToneX, as I would use the ToneX for that purpose.
Thank you!
