    Leaf Spy Approved LELink OBD2:
    Note from supplier:
    yes, our product LELink works with Leaf Spy Lite or Leaf Spy Pro on the Android or Apple Store. Our adapter also has user configurable auto on/off ZEROpower standby, so it won’t drain car battery. amzn.to/2HlXfnY

    Looks like that OBD2 is out of stock make sure you search for the following when looking for the right OBD2 as there's a lot out there that does not work with Leaf Spy so its a bit hit and miss.
    V1.5 Firmware
    ELM327

    Very helpful video, thanks James.
    What is the small white connector used for, the one immediately to the left of the larger one into which you plugged the ODB2 adaptor? What type of plug does it accept?
    Re Nissan Uk’s awaited response, why do you expect/hope it will be any different from what Nissan USA are now saying? Their statement is entirely consistent with the warning in the User Manual that to protect the battery from damage due to overheating, the battery should be allowed to cool after the first rapid charge before the second charge. They say active battery cooling was omitted to keep the purchase price down.
    I think Nissan are destroying their credibility by not including active battery temperature management. The only way I can see whereby they can salvage their reputation is to offer this as an optional extra across the range ASAP. That way those who need to drive longer journeys can do so if they’re prepared to pay the extra while those who don’t need to can avoid paying for something they don’t need.
    Keep up the good work.

    Thanks for the video, they are great. Am I correct, the ODB II is on even when your not in the car and doors locked.
    If so, I see what you mean by it being a security risk. So someone (if they knew password 0000 or 1234) could log in and change the doors to always be unlocked.

      MrSnowMen the Bluetooth is always on. I don't think they can unlock your car from just via the OBD II. Also most Bluetooth give around 15 second to connect before having to turn it on and off again to retry. But for the security concious it maybe best to unplug unless you know exactly that the dongle does after leaving it plugged in.

    • @LemonTeaLeaf
      @LemonTeaLeaf  6 років тому +3

      Simon Carr I pre-ordered thinking this will be the electric car to do 130-150 motorway mile which would be the perfect car for me. But with the battery issues and learning to live with it. I would buy the leaf just for the tech like ProPilot and ePedal. But if I'm honest I would really consider the ionq over the leaf mainly for the motorway drives I do. It would be a hard choice to be honest. I might even have consider dare I say a Mitsubishi PHEV as the family long distance car and then bought the 60kWh Leaf (nismo) when/if it can out but by the they'll be a lot more on the market.
      That's almost a politicians answer... Ok bottom line I would buy the leaf what I know know. But would have to consider a second car for long distance. In the ideal world it should have been the one car that rules them all. 🤣

    • @FancyaBevMate
      @FancyaBevMate 6 років тому +1

      Lemon-Tea Leaf hi mate if I may just bring something that the ioniq doesn't have? First of all the boot is way too shallow for bigger loads but for me more importantly is the extra height over cars lower to the ground. Having an elevated driving position makes for much more safety and ease of the pulling out of the junctions etc. Cheers

    I have today decided to cancel my order. I was hoping that Nissan's response was going to be we will find a solution, but it seems that 'It's the we designed it' makes me annoyed when it effectively limits the car to 150m journeys. 150 miles there and 150 miles back. I am also now starting to hear that in America where ambient temperatures have hit 21 celsius their are unconfirmed reports that #rapidgate is occurring on the first rapid charge. I still want a Nissan Leaf, but I will wait for the 2019 version.

    • @LemonTeaLeaf
      @LemonTeaLeaf  6 років тому

      I think that is the sensible choice. NissanUSA response is very poor indeed. I hope NissanUK will have a different response to this as I’m waiting to hear back from them still. I think 2019-2020 will be the year when the consumer will have a larger choice of EVs.

    • @LemonTeaLeaf
      @LemonTeaLeaf  6 років тому +1

      Saggie Sky Hi, yes you'll need an OBD2 so the phone can talk to the car via Leaf Spy Pro. The OBD2 is used by garages to diagnose the car. I'm only using it to get as much info on what the car is doing. Most people will want this to get a better idea of the actual battery level state of charge (SOC) especially for long journeys. Hope that answers your question. Also there's never a dumb question so ask away 😊

    • @gillespelletier9161
      @gillespelletier9161 6 років тому +3

      Saggie Sky Yes you need the OBD-II adapter if you want leafspy to work. The adapter is the bridge between the car and your phone. All communication in the car is done over CAN BUS. A phone connect only over bluetooth or wifi. The OBD-II adapter translate information between the two protocols.

      FINALLY got the LELink2 dongle to work! Turns out I needed to enable GPS on the phone before I installed LSP. That prompted the phone to ask about permissions for accessing location data. Without that simple step, LSP was blocked from accessing data from the dongle completely. That was after 4 separate attempts to uninstall, re-install and change different settings on the Android 12 phone. I knew the dongle was working as it was quite happy to send data to Car Scanner. Anyway, all good, and I can be just as big a nerd as the other boys now! Meanwhile everyone else has sold-off their Leaf and bought a Tesla ;)

      Okay change of plans. Return cancelled. Doesn't pair over bluetooth in the device itself only via the Leafspy app. Car needs to be on and ready to drive. Ensure the OBD II is plugged in. Run Leafspy (ensuring android/apple device has bluetooth on) and in settings connect via bluetooth. Should now connect and start reading Leaf data.
