I think it's safe to say that this game is highly anticipated. Overall, I think it delivered, although it's far from perfect. The problem with making a game movie with these type of games, is that they're always scariest right before you die. Game movie wise it wouldn't make much sense to add that in. That being said, I think even as a game movie "The Evil Within" will provide plenty of scares, but it's definitely a game that is better played instead of watched. I highly recommend this game, no matter what type of gamer you are, but especially if you're into survival horror. It does a great job of creating a creepy atmosphere and does a superb job of never letting us feel comfortable, always keeping us at the edge of our seat. I tried to edit the game movie slower, with less cuts, to let scenes build up and add tension. As always, I included gamepaly, relevant dialogue and cutscenes to create one fluid cinematic experience. If you enjoyed, make sure you like, comment and share!

The story was NOT that hard to follow. It was about a machine built by scientists that could link peoples minds together into a single brain. The central brain chosen for the project was Ruvik, a disturbed child prodigy who was the original mastermind behind the project. So basically the entire game takes place inside that Ruvik character's mind and all the other character's including yourself are just test subjects who have been kidnapped and hooked up to the machine (like the matrix)
I just got that, after that WHOLE VIDEO I just got it
Jimenez said that everyone influences the mind. Why would Ruvik have a playground in his dark, twisted head? He doesn't, that's Leslie influencing his environment. In The Assignment dlc, why is there a couch with a black cat by it in every area? Because Kidman is influencing the environment. It IS complicated, because it deals with mind influencing matter, making your imagination take a (pseudo) corporeal form. It's why Sebastian can shoot an rpg while being impaled, and how Leslie can traverse the mind alone without getting a scratch on him. While yes, Ruvik does have greater control over the mind (after all, he was the one to design the mind link) it's important to remember that the characters were not lab rats. They were dwellers inside a world in which they could make anything happen.
Yup, that's totally true. Those are the specifics of what was going on, however I was talking about the basic outline of the entire story.

+LIQUIDSNAKEz28 still, what's with ending? Did Seb got out? Because it's not clear as Kidman saying - nobody leaves. So does this means he's still in this matrix? If not, why did he saw Ruvik in reality if he killed him inside the brain and his brain in reality? what does leslie mean when seb is seing him?

haha first time i played this game was in the middle of the night. Didn't think it was going to be that scary, haha oh i was so wrong xD I honestly think its a pretty cool game. Reminds me of The Last of Us and Silent Hill c:

This was awesome. Great balance of gameplay footage vs. pure cutscenes. This is one of the best-made fan-made video game movies I have seen. :)

My biggest questions toward the end
1. Why did Kidman supposedly hook Sebastian back up to the machine?
2. Whose mind is Sebastian in now?
3. Did Joseph die for real?
4. What would Ruvik do with Leslie's body?
5. Will there be a sequel?
6. Will the DLC answer my previous questions?
1. Most likely will be answered in the DLC
2. No one knows for sure, but the most obvious answer at this point is that he did get out of the STEM and is now in the real world.
3. I don't think so. Mikami wouldn't kill off one of the main characters just like that, and his body was not in the lab when Sebastian wakes up. The organization possibly took him.
4. It was mentioned in the game that he wants out, and he wants revenge. He's most likely going after the organization.
5. Good question.

She didn't, she saved his life by pretending like he's already dead (You can hear her say "leave that one, and those two" while pointing at Sebastian, and since he notices two dead bodies as he wakes up, it can be assumed that she was talking about the corpses of Connelly and Jimenez). Kidman was most likely working for the same unknown organization as Jimenez and was destroying evidence at the end of the game in order to cover up the experiments. Apparently they decided to leave the dead bodies behind since it's not like they're able to spill the beans about what has been going on or anything.
2. "Whose mind is Sebastian in now?"
None, he is most likely back in the real world. However, one of the documents you can find quite early in the game mentions that some of the people working with STEM were still experiencing a linked consciousness even after the machine was turned off. It could be that Sebastian is experiencing something similar - he managed to escape STEM, but his mind is still connected to Ruvik's who is now living on inside Leslie's body.
3. "Did Joseph die for real?"
Most likely not, since he was not among the bodies you see at the end of the game. Sebastian was left behind as well, so his status as a detective didn't seem to influence their decision to take him while not even bothering with the other corpses. Consequently, the most logical conclusion would be that he's still alive, even though it's questionable for how much longer he'll be around since leaving him alive is a huge risk to the organization.
4. "What will Ruvik do with Leslie's body?"
Well, obviously he wants revenge. One of the audio tapes left behind by Ruvik also mentions that he wants to "restore" his sister Laura (who might actually still be alive, but that's a long story), so chances are he'll just go back to doing lots and lots of crazy science stuff.
5. "Will there be a sequel?"
Nobody knows yet.
6. "Will the DLC answer my previous questions?"
Well, I kinda already did that, even though a lot of the things I just said are mostly speculation. Honestly, I think that if you gather all the documents that can be found in the game, you can already piece together most of the story except for a few minor details such as the motives and nature of Jimenez' organization. Doesn't bother me much though, I think it's nice to have a little bit of mystery left. Time will tell, I guess.

I guess so. I'm terribly uncreative when it comes to naming things, so I went with the dumbest thing I could come up with.
Also the organization Kidman works for was called Mobius, and they wanted Leslie just as bad as Ruvik did.
This is still one of the most hair-raising opening chapters of any horror game I've played.
Here's hoping we'll see a part 3 someday.

You will never understand the story by just watching the cutscenes. There are little bits and pieces spread throughout the game explaining what happened and what is happening.

Ruvik was killed by the doctor just before the game starts. But he used Leslie as conduit to be alive as mind. Kidman tried to get inside Ruvik's mind with others and kill Leslie and effectively Ruvik. But she failed and Ruvik is free.

***** a lot would be explained in future DLC lol I think all of them are set in the matrix right from the start to get inside Ruvik's mind. The real killer of the hospital massacre was someone else, could be the doctor and his companies or Leslie, or they just killed themselves each other in the nightmare of Ruvik. Color of Kidman's hair seems different and quite dark in real world but I'm not sure.

So, I’m not gonna go into “full-on conspiracy theory” mode here, but I’d just like to show what I found that I think’s interesting:
The well-known piano piece that plays all throughout the game is known as “Clair de Lune” (or “moonlight” in French) by Claude Debussy. He has been credited in creating this piece based off of a poem of the same name by Paul Verlaine. It reads (according to my sources) as such;

It’s all very melancholy, and if there’s some tied in meaning somewhere in there, I didn’t bother to dig deep enough for it. Maybe it’s just meant to be serene accompaniment. Probably. I just thought it was neat.
I think i can understand the story. Leslie was already dead after Sebastian had beaten Ruvik so that's why no one can see him. And Sebastian is already living again in the reality. The reason why there is light on the Beacon Mental Hospital because it's Beacon... duh. Ruvik needed Leslie alive because he's going to use him as a tool for him to become stronger and for him to gain access to the reality. Remember when he touched his head and he became one with the essence of Ruvik's brain? The Doc and the other Police were already dead because they got the disease and the Doc was stepped on. The reason why Sebastian is alive even though he was impaled is because he survived the disease and Ruvik failed to kill him or maybe consider him lucky cause he survived the pain in his partial lobe. Joseph maybe was taken by the organization Kidman is working with. This is just an opinion.
I'm just pissed of Ruvik cause u won't gain nothing by using revenge.

You wake up in the real world, pass out, and then you wake up back in the STEM. That's why you hear the noise. And why there are dead bodies in the asylum. And why the asylum tower has the light.
There is not knowing how to aim then there is this guy.
At that exact moment, when he saw those over-sized monsters or tough bosses, he said, "Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit, oh shit!" And damn near pissed his pants knowing that one slip meant instant death or slow, painful torture before dying.
So...the real antagonist is Leslie? Sucks that the numbers of survivors are so low.:)

Ondra Brown basically the story is scientists have created a device that combines peoples minds together into one single host, Ruvik created it so he could go into a reality where his dead sister is still alive, however the doctors and morbious agents betrayed him and killed him but they soon realised that they needed Ruvik to use the machine so they took his brain and hooked it up, Leslie is the only test subject to ever get out of the machine without being possessed by Ruvik so Morbios sends Kidman to capture him but Ruvik wants Leslie so he can take over his mind and return to the real world, Sebastian, Kidman, Joseph, the driver and Leslie and the doctor are all hooked up to the machine so everything that happens after Ruvik knocks out Sebastian takes place in Ruvik mind and the city destruction and monsters is Ruvik messing with them

This is a great movie version, but this game has so much atmosphere built into the progression of playing that you don't get the full impact of the game. Granted this is a (give or take) 20 hour game packed into two hours. Play the game for the full experience, but this is a fantastic way to review the game after you've beaten it.
So this is like nightmare on elm street. This Ruvik character is like Freddy Kruger and the other players are in some kind of dream.
And also can wait for pre sequel ;)

It’s imaginative but you have to pay close attention to figure out with different realities.
Ok so here's my take on the ending. Castello's wife was trying to find out the death of their daughter, and was ultimately taken by the organization Kidman was working for. The Organization was trying to stop Ruvik because his mind ran rampage when they test the machine because the machine wouldn't work without his brain.Realizing their mistake they tried sending people in as test subjects in order to try and stop Ruvik, to their horror they found out that Leslie's mind was compatible with Ruvik's mind. Elsewhere Castello was trying to to find out about his wife's disappearance and was ultimately taken by the Organization and used as test subjects. Along with Castello they put in Hermandez, Marcello, Joseph, and Kidman one of their own in order to kill Leslie. The intro of the game showed the four characters (excluding Kidman) arriving at the hospital without knowing they were already in the machine.
After fighting his way through the nightmare, Castello was shown two visions of Kidman standing right beside him in a building with machines and people talking in the background. The second of those visions we saw Kidman clearly watching over him and a lady that clearly resembles the nurse in the mirror. Kidman clearly stated that, "No one can get out." Implying that they knew too much and will forever be hook up into the machine. After he blacked out Castello had accomplished in stopping Ruvik or so he thought. Near the end we saw the tub that Leslie was in, emptied, implying that Ruvik's mind was transfered completely over to Leslie's after Castello thought he had destroyed Ruvik's brain.
When the SWAT showed up it was implying that in Castello's mind this should happen, since they only send in the SWAT when contact can't be made or when something had gone wrong, this was the order that was in Castello's mind reflecting on what he had been taught. We didn't see Joseph getting out because Castello saw Kidman shot and killed him, in his mind Joseph was dead. Kidman wasn't shown either implying that Castello didn't know what had happened to her after the monster showed up, after all she could had gotten out on her own and return to the Organization for all he cared.
So what we saw was Castello's mind creating the ending that he deserved, but when he saw Leslie walking out and disappearing (because no one in real life can do instant transmission), he wondered if he had succeed in getting out or not.
But honestly this game's story line sucks, too many versions of how this should have end.

I completely agree. However, here's something to pique your interest:
1. STEM machinery works by connecting the minds, memories, and perceptions of those that are linked to the device and allowing them free access to openly alter and affect other people's view of their individual realities with their own and vice versa. At 2:05:50 you awaken within connective base CB-201, of which there are twelve, within the red haze as Kidman ominously stands beside you. She leaves, only to have someone who looks very much like yourself stand before you and shoot you.
2. Later, after Ruvik seems to dissolve the tattered remnants of Leslie's existence and assume control of his body, the beacon tower of the asylum begins to crumble, sending you to your knees and eventually the floor. At 2:18:48, you can see through the floor into the STEM chamber below. Beneath you lies the body of a man in a white lab coat with a tie, lying dead within CB-201. Within the end scene you will notice Jimenez' body lying in the same position.
This leads me to believe that Sebastian assumed that Dr. Jimenez was associated with his wife's "disappearance" and his daughter's "accident" which allowed him to be lured to STEM by the Organization, with the promise to pick the doctor's memories for evidence which is how he was conned into the building in the first place. Though this last part is just an assumption.
3. After struggling with Ruvik, you awake in what you assume to be reality in either CB-211 or CB-210 at 2:24:00, driven to end the demented madness of this deranged and disturbed individual. Having destroyed Ruvik's brain, Sebastian wakes within what we perceive to be actual reality, in connection base CB-207. At 2:26:00 when you awaken for the last and final time, Sebastian awakens in CB-212. Nowhere near the connection base he had previously woken up in when Kidman told him to be silent. Again further proving he is indeed not in an actual reality, and is still stuck within the recesses of his own mind.
He is still trapped there. The FBI has it, so the scene where she says that neither he or the other two can go , nobody can. They were used to enter in the mind of Ruvik .

Ruvik basically made the Matrix that allows the center host mind to become more powerful and of course the "secret agency" that he was working for betrayed him and used him as a test subject for it and wants to take revenge by taking over Leslies body. While "Seb" just had the bad luck to get caught up all in the middle of it.

Everything that happened, was a dream, it was all Seb's imagination, he basically fought his way out of a bad dream, how he got into that bad dream in the first place, I don't know, it might've been Ruvik or Leslie.

Okay so, why is Leslie connected to STEM if Ruvik can use him to get out? Kidman and Jimanez would obviously know he's connected to STEM and they could easily disconnect him.

I like the main character. Can't wait to dive more into his personality and story in The Evil Within 2. Really like the concept and atmosphere in this game. Not really scary, more like a thriller mystery than horror. Still good

Most of it is actually played outside of the asylum, but there is still quite a bit of gore n' zombies~ It's a fun game.
