    Tuve la suerte de pedir esta semana el otro medidor de ESR a pesar de que el negro defectuoso aparecía anunciado en todos los vídeos de UA-cam que vi .
    Es bueno que hayas recibido un reembolso completo de Amazon 👍

    4:30 I have the same meter which says "MESR-100 V2". The user manual is Aug 2013 (shows it at the top of the page) and it does tell you to short the test leads or to use a jumper wire.
    6:50 sure looks like your neg terminal is hitting the can of the cap. Also interesting is yours is firmware version 3.1 while mine is 2.3.

      @larrybud , well the negative lead SHOULD be electrically common with the can.......

      @@youtuuba They aren't all connected, but even if they were I would imagine it would change the ESR rating if the lead is shorted to it.

    I ordered the Ezm 2501C to replace my Mesr100. It had incorrect readings just like shown in this video. Turns out one of the Mesr100 leads was faulty. It works as it should now but its short leads make the ezm 2501C the winner by a country mile.

    WORKS GREAT
    NO NEED TO DESOLDER, CHECK CAPS WHILE THEY'RE ON THE CIRCUIT BOARD
    WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE, SAVES A TON OF TIME

      @drumtwo4seven drumtwo4seven, apparently you did not watch the video, or were unable to understand it.
      "What's not to like?", well I named some things that are not to like.
      "Checks caps while they are in the circuit", well, so do most other testers, but they often don't do a good job of it. Also, this tester can't test for DCR, which can't be tested in-circuit anyway, but which is a necessary test of electrolytic capacitors. As I said in the video, a cap that is bad due to internal leakage/breakdown can often pass an ESR test, and will also probably read an acceptable capacitance value, even while being functionally inadequate in a circuit. This tester does not check DCR, and thus cannot really test the capacitors very well.
      I also pointed out in the video that this meter gave ESR readings (tested out of circuit for best accuracy) that were very far off compared to other (better) ESR testers that I used on the same caps.
      With your approach, apparently you just trust that a piece of cheap Chinese stuff is giving you reliable readings, and just blindly go with that. I guess you can't be very serious about this topic.

    That meter is probably "good enough" for general service work to weed out caps that have seriously deteriorated. I used the analog meter based on the creative electronics LM324 circuit. That didn't have nearly the resolution as this but helped fixed many tvs. That circuit sort of generated what looked like a sine wave because the oscillator was 1 section of the 324 and it's slew rate was so poor it looked closer to a crummy sine wave. I can see why you might want to return it though for the price. Looks like about 60 bucks as of April 2024.

      Marka, yes this meter costs around $60-$70 from Amazon. The other small ESR meter I showed costs only about $40 from the eBay seller, has a better display, better test leads, more accurate measurements, and also tests capacitive DCR, which not even the EXTECH meter I showed can do properly; I think it is a much better value than the MESR product; it's downside is that there are important things to know to use it correctly, and it comes with no documentation; this is why I made UA-cam video user's manual for it, as well as a downloadable user's manual and a Quick Start Guide, the location if which is shown in that video.
      I would caution anyone about thinking this MESR model is "good enough" for casual electronics repair. It's only purpose is to provide good/bad information on capacitors, but at least on mine, some ESR readings were off by nearly an order of magnitude, which can make a good capacitor look bad, and vice versa. Also, because it cannot measure DCR, it can easily lead its user into NOT replacing capacitors which have awful DCR but acceptable ESR (which often happens).

      @biogons14 5 місяців тому

      @@youtuuba The EXTECH model can´t be used "in circuit" because of the voltage of the square wave used; over 0.6 volts.

    • @youtuuba
      @youtuuba  4 місяці тому +1

      @@biogons14 , yes, but I was not comparing the EXTECH to the MESR. I was comparing the MESR to the other ESR/DCR tester that I had also made a video and, as well as written a downloadable manual for it. The only reason I had the EXTECH meter in this video was for a 'third opinion', with a readout I could easily get in the workbench shots. I also own and have ready access to higher end ESR/DCR meters, and with the exception of the EXTECH not being good at measuring capacitive DCR, its ESR readings are very close to what the higher end meters I tried were showing.

      maxab73whatever, here's the thing. Do you want RELIABLE ESR readings, or do you just want to congratulate yourself for getting a "steal" on a product that can't be relied upon to do its job? YOU would not be able to tell one way or the other unless you had other ways to corroborate it, e.g. one or more other meters.

    I have one of these and its proved very useful for the price I thought. I'm struggling to understand why you are so disappointed with it and yet happy to muck around with that EXtech that cant even read the capacitance. The only annoying thing I find is the short leads but I accept thats how it has to be at 100Khz. I dont see a down side of not measuring DCR surely a multimeter would suffice for that.

    • @youtuuba
      @youtuuba  6 місяців тому +1

      Campbell Morrison, I explained why I found this unit to be inadequate. And I don't know why you think the Extech LCR meter can't read capacitance. Because you seem to think that a simple multimeter is a substitute for a proper tester, I guess you will continue to struggle to understand my meaning.

      @@youtuuba fair enough I'll watch it again I may have got the wrong end of your Extech LCR meter. PS I was only suggesting a multimeter for the DC test not ESR or even capacitance. Personally I also like to check the leakage at the rated voltage also for which I use a variable PSU and multimeter as this is not done with any general capacitance instrument Im aware of or can afford.

    I can’t stand it. If the product is made in China, the instruction for the product is on a small piece of paper and the typeface is so small I have to take a picture of the instructions and enlarge the directions on my iPhone just to be able to read it. 😡🤬
    And you are right it not in English it “Chop Suey English.” And I am Chinese America and I still don’t understand “Chop Suey English.”
    I am not into electronics but I do enjoy your explanation. You have a great voice for radio. Take care see you on the next vlog.
