exactly...that's what adolescents/teens do...it's the time to grow, evolve, and "try on" personas to find out all the aspects of your personality...finally settling on one for a while, only to continue to evolve through your whole life. my daughter slams me for letter her go through her (very short-very mild) emo/goth phase. i found it a fascinating phase. watching her explore it was cool for me, and i knew it wouldn't be the one she "settled" on.

It must be nice to look at things she did at age 24/25 and feel relieved that she’s still enjoying fashion and certain aesthetics without all of the pressure of posturing

You really don't have to know Japanese to live in Japan. It's very foreigner friendly. She's from Canada, moved to China to do modelling. Moved to Japan, worked as a model. She used to be super in to Otaku culture (dressing super kawaii, doing videos in Japanese) but you can't see a lot of those videos anymore. She's grown up a lot since then but has stayed in Japan because she likes it there. Now she does youtube as her main career with occasional modelling. She used to have a Japanese tutor but with UA-cam being her job she doesn't really NEED to know Japanese fluently anymore.

I've had so many different phases in my life..."skater fashion", emo, scene, kinda a mix of emo and goth, hippie, androgyny, grunge, then i tried mixing both feminine and masculine styles (like wearing a skirt with a boyish shirt), and slowly i started wearing more and more dresses/skirts and now my style is kinda a mix of a few styles but mostly kawaii, doll, korean, harajuku, childish, kinky, all pastel colors and my favorite color combination is pink and white. Tbh yes, i was cringey at some phases (mostly the emo one probably) but i don't regret anything i did because even if it was cringey, fashion always helped me express myself and made me happier and feel better about myself. I now get more stares/comments about my current style more than ever, some are good comments and some are bad, but i just ignore them because i love what i wear, i feel beautiful, i feel happy, and that's what really matters.

Hahaha I'm a 21 German and had the same phase like taylor but with the fact that I couldn't afford wigs or Japanese clothing and than I went trought the shops here in Germany and bought everything wich had Japanese ltters on it or was an extremly cute thing hahah and than Ionce had the day to do my hair like if I was in Japan and just 5 hairclips but my whole class made fun of me asking if I could fit more hairclips on my head back than >.< I'm a bit still like this, but not more that extremly weird, because as I was around 15-17 I had no idea what to do with myself and yeah... in that age my dayli makup for example included the brightest makup I could find, 1-3cm big white shimery kajal under my eye, a lot of light pink and white eyeshadow, glittering eyeliner, a lot of light pink or peach colored lipgloss, a lot of blush and many pastel colored nail polish, cute dresses with butterflys or small flowers on it,... and than I had that kinda phase sometimes between where I was wearing just black or grey clothes, made my eyes extremly black, had dark red lipstick, took jewlery that looked like if I wanted to say: "Look at me, I'm a rebel!" and than colored pants like green, yellow, red, purple and chucks... hahaha I was so weird back than... I even posted song-covers on Facebook, but my voice is creepy and I can't speak Japanese or Korean, so everytime I coome back to it, I feel like if it wasn't me who did it back than... haha, but I'm still a little weirdo. Last year for example I walked to the next train station in my town dressed in a yukatata (because I wanted to go to the biggest festival abaout the Japanese culture, that we have here in Europe, wich is held in a German city around 300km away from me...) and everyone was looking at me like: "Dafuq ya wearing gurl?" and I was looking back at them like: "Look at all the fucks I give!-NONE!!"
My most cringe worthy time is when I was really open with being a fantasy lover and I wore this dragon necklace every day (even though it turned me green) and carried a wand and ughhhh God what a terrible time lmao. I've had so many different phases in my life..."skater fashion", emo, scene, kinda a mix of emo and goth, hippie, androgyny, grunge, then i tried mixing both feminine and masculine styles (like wearing a skirt with a boyish shirt), and slowly i started wearing more and more dresses/skirts and now my style is kinda a mix of a few styles but mostly kawaii, doll, korean, harajuku, childish, kinky, all pastel colors and my favorite color combination is pink and white.
Tbh yes, i was cringey at some phases (mostly the emo one probably) but i don't regret anything i did because even if it was cringey, fashion always helped me express myself and made me happier and feel better about myself.
I now get more stares/comments about my current style more than ever, some are good comments and some are bad, but i just ignore them because i love what i wear, i feel beautiful, i feel happy, and that's what really matters.

Hahaha I'm a 21 German and had the same phase like taylor but with the fact that I couldn't afford wigs or Japanese clothing and than I went trought the shops here in Germany and bought everything wich had Japanese ltters on it or was an extremly cute thing hahah and than Ionce had the day to do my hair like if I was in Japan and just 5 hairclips but my whole class made fun of me asking if I could fit more hairclips on my head back than >.< I'm a bit still like this, but not more that extremly weird, because as I was around 15-17 I had no idea what to do with myself and yeah... in that age my dayli makup for example included the brightest makup I could find, 1-3cm big white shimery kajal under my eye, a lot of light pink and white eyeshadow, glittering eyeliner, a lot of light pink or peach colored lipgloss, a lot of blush and many pastel colored nail polish, cute dresses with butterflys or small flowers on it,... and than I had that kinda phase sometimes between where I was wearing just black or grey clothes, made my eyes extremly black, had dark red lipstick, took jewlery that looked like if I wanted to say: "Look at me, I'm a rebel!" and than colored pants like green, yellow, red, purple and chucks... hahaha I was so weird back than... I even posted song-covers on Facebook, but my voice is creepy and I can't speak Japanese or Korean, so everytime I coome back to it, I feel like if it wasn't me who did it back than... haha, but I'm still a little weirdo. Last year for example I walked to the next train station in my town dressed in a yukatata (because I wanted to go to the biggest festival abaout the Japanese culture, that we have here in Europe, wich is held in a German city around 300km away from me...) and everyone was looking at me like: "Dafuq ya wearing gurl?" and I was looking back at them like: "Look at all the fucks I give!-NONE!!"
