I was that overwhelmed beginner until I found your lessons. I was finally able to tune my guitar because you were thoughtful enough to name and play each note! That's what we beginners need--the basics. The information you provide is relevant and perfectly paced. Your style is clear, warm, and fun; you really have a gift for teaching. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. Talk on!

Your lap steel lessons are the best on the internet, by far Dan. I’ve tried many other channels and it’s too overwhelming for a novice. Thanks so much. 👍👍👍

I like your teaching style. No Sir you don't talk to much. You explain everything wonderfully for us old beginners.

The speed you go at and your explanations are spot on in my opinion. I've been playing the guitar for 40 years and am just getting in the lap steel. Great tutorials.

Thanks Neil:) This was my goal. There are lotsa slick lessons available out there, but I realized many of these may be overwhelming for the beginner and hence may turn them away. My little program here will start to speed up a little, as we grow but the teaching style will remain the same:)

Happy ground found. Thanks for these Dan, I’m finding them just right. I’ve played guitar a fair bit but just three days in to owning a lap steel. I like the material and the way it’s taught. So much of what is out there is geared towards C6 stuff. I’m more into your country blues sort of feel so this is spot on. Working my way through your videos slowly and learning a lot. Many thanks.

Thanks Timothy:) I've taken a bit of flack for "too much talk" but that was kinda the point of the video's. Too many times I have heard beginners complain that its too overwhelming so they kinda just give up. So I was taking a little different approach.I'm super glad you're able to get something from these. There will me more to come, I'm just a little busy right now with our Guitars For Kids program Christmas deliveries:)

Due to various reasons I can't play my electric guitars too much,...old age & a wild youth !! So i already have some knowledge & theory etc. But i think i could switch to Lap Steel & it would be easier on my body. Never could get comfortable trying to learn slide on my electrics. What type or model Lap Steel guitar would you suggest for someone like me. I like the Gretch, but it's $500.00 bucks. I have amps & pedals etc. Just need that Lap Steel. I'm primarily a Blues player, if that helps.

In the "old Days" you could find lap steels anywhere. They were like a dime a dozen 20 years ago. Now, they are getting tougher to find, however, they are out there. If you search hard enough, you can find old Supro/National/Valco steels for under 300 bucks. They are a great little steels. The Gibson and Richenbachers will be more expensive and in my opinion rightfully so. IF you're looking for super budget I hear that Rogue makes steels and I have a couple students that are having good luck with them. I haven't played one, so sadly, I can't give a valid opinion on one:( The Gretsch you mention are decent instruments, but if yer getting into the $500 zone, you can easily find Supro for that money:) At least that's the case here in Canada:)

Cheap vintage steels have been drying up since the start of covid . At mainstream local music stores , you can sometimes find used late model Gretch or Epiphone steels for good prices . Both are good sounding instruments , but the Gretch has noticeably narrow string spacing , and the Epi noticeably wide spring spacing . I picked up an Epi a few months ago , for $150-ish IIRC .
Before the zombie apocalypse , Rogue and the dozen or so near identical knockoffs were regular price $99 , frequently on sale for $79 from all the usual internet sellers . But currently they're going for full price of $159- $179 .. Not worth it for that money .
The middle ground are the Recording Kings , and SX . from just under to just over $ 200 , depending on model .

@@margarethouse404 thankyou Margaret. I did get a cheapo Recording King to try & start out. If I don't like the concept I'll just sell it,... no great loss. Haven't plugged it in yet. Got some remodeling done in basement, just about to un bury my beautiful guitars & get some hung on the wall. Opening a new can of worms at my seasoned age ! Oh well, retired with time right.
