You notice his prosthetic arm doesn't turn to stone with the rest of him. It's possible Draal could have survived had he blocked Angor's dagger with his prosthetic arm instead of his own body.

Both Father and Son died in Action and both died Defending Jim ( Even though Kanjigar didn’t know Jim would become the next troll hunter) And both died in the same position.
