My wife is from Covington Kentucky and Through her marriage to her first husband, Skeeter Davis ended up being my wife's cousin-in-law(if there is such a thing)! He NEVER admitted that he was gay or had HIV. He went as far as to deny both statements. She was deeply affected by the death of her father and I think that although on the surface the song is about a romantic break up, it communicates that deeper sorrow that comes with loosing a loved one through death. I once read the widow exclaimed in the middle of her grief, that the loss of her husband meant “the end of the world.”
