in america, hams that come like that are called Country Hams, and are salted, brined, and smoked. this produces a ham that can be kept at room temperature for months without rotting. how ever, it is imperative to soak the ham in 2-3 changes of water to prevent it from being dangerously salty.

These specific hams don't need boiling

Sorry, mama taught to boil it first after thawing, take out, then add your cloves too the ham, then you do the baking process - but too each their own I guess

It is according to what type of ham you are cooking and the salt content of the ham that you may need to boil the ham before baking. The frozen hams in the supermarket usually do not require boiling before baking. Just thaw, pat dry and bake! Happy baking!

@Mr. Lex I love all Grace products. I wish I cud taste a jamaican ham from Grace!
But I agree with you on the boiling of the old time hams. I used to watch my mother set up the biscuit tin in the yard over a wood fire and boil that ham for hours. Everybody in the neighborhood had to know ham was boiling! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

The hams that we are getting in the supermarkets in Jamaica nowadays are easier to prepare - that is skip the boiling the salt content have been reduced significantly

. With a Shank Ham I simmer it (Depending on the size of the Ham) for One to Two hours in ( 2 cups of water, 2 liter bottle of 7up or Sprite soda, Carrots, Onions and Cloves).
My question is if I soak the Country ham in 2-3 changes then simmer it for One to Two hours using my method. Will the HAM adsorb the flavors from the Soda, Carrots, Onions and CLOVES while simmering?
I guess the only way to find out is by trying it

Natoe Simon you don’t have to boil it if you don’t want to.

she does not need to, if you notice, the ham was wrapped and baked above a water bath for about 4 hours, it will be fully cooked.

You can boil it or let it soak in ginger ale over the night....so it won't be too salty
