God bless you, Sir! I wish I had the patience and skill to do kids' magic. It is probably the most challenging show I have done (my daughter's 2nd grade class).
Several decades ago I used to be a Beaver leader. Beavers are like Boy Scouts, but 5 and 6 years old. Once I taught them Christmas songs that were parody gruesome takes on "Oh Christmas Tree" (like "Oh Tom the Toad" and "Oh Fred the Frog") that always ended in some bizarre, but rhyming demise for the animal. The kids were equally horrified and hyper in their laughter because the lyrics were so ridiculous. The other Beaver leader afterward said to me, "I do NOT know how you held that together!" hahah. This video totally reminded me of it. You totally held it together in miraculous ways.
Since Halloween is also National Magic Day (WAY under-advertised!), I always do a quick trick for tricker-treaters if they want one (some don't). This year it was an empty candy wrapper vanish. Big hit with the under-10 group... Only one kid wondered if the wrapper was up my sleeve. I showed him it wasn't. It's amazing that the sleeve "trope" continues to live on in the culture, when you almost never see it performed. (If you've tried it, you know what it takes to make it look good.) Idea for a pre-Halloween list next year, David? Ten quick one-offs you can do for tricker-treaters?
Hi David, Thanks for the Performance and the side bar notes... I do like performing for kids and I still get some local, now grown up kids in their early thirty's who ask me about the dragon in my hands via a red (De-Lite) that I did for them in school when they were younger.
Nice work! It’s a “magician in trouble” effect. Behavioral management is a skill you gain from doing kids’ magic or just magic in general. Each situation is different though.
@ I admire that you went to the kids. You did very well with kids (who are rambunctious). Their reaction to your “accidental” reveal was priceless. Kids are the “toughest” audiences. Take a bow.

It definitely takes practice!
You can probably build a lot of behavioral management skills from doing kids’ magic. As a teacher, I still need to develop this skill.
