বৈদিক দেবতারা ছিলেন মন্ত্রমূর্তি। জাতবেদ অগ্নির সম্মুখে তাদের আবাহন করা হত। বর্তমানে পূজার অঙ্গ অনেকবেশি তন্ত্রনির্ভর। আগমশাস্ত্র শাক্তপূজায় বিভিন্ন ধ্যানমন্ত্রের অবতরণ করেন।
কালিকাপুরাণ, দেবীভাগবৎ, বৃহন্নন্দীকেশ্বর পুরাণ অনুসারে মহাপুজার অঙ্গ হিসেবে এই মন্ত্র পাঠ করা হয়। কূর্মমুদ্রায় রক্তপুষ্প নিয়ে পুরোহিত পদ্মাসনে বসে ধ্যান যোগে এই মন্ত্র উচ্চারণ করেন দেবীমূর্তির সামনে। শারদীয়া দুর্গাপূজার এই রীতি চলে আসছে সেই সার্বর্ণী মন্বন্তরে সুরথ ও বৈশ্যের সময় থেকে।
যে শক্তি এই চরাচর জগতের মধ্যে ব্যাপ্ত হয়ে আছেন, তিনিই আমাদেরই শরীরের মুলাধারে কুণ্ডলিনী পথে সহস্রার দিকে যাত্রা করে জীবাত্মাকে পরমাত্মায় মিলিত করেন।
