This match was one of the classic example as to why cricket is called as a team sport. Just compared the scorecard of both the teams and you can easily find out that Melbourne Renegades batters apart from Harmanpreet Kaur also contributed at a better strike rate than Sydney Thunder. During the run-chase other batters around Smriti Mandhana didn't got going and had a strike of less than 100. This is in turn added that extra pressure on Smriti Mandhana to take risk and keep the asking rate within the touching distance. Although she failed to hit the six of the last ball, her effort to take the team over the line was phenomenal.
As an Indian fan, really wonderful to see that Cricket Australia awarded Smriti Mandhana, the Player of the Match award despite all round performance from Harmanpreet Kaur. It reminds me of the match between India and Bangladesh where Sachin Tendulkar scored his 100th International Century but still ended up on the losing side. As they say, cricket is a funny game where anything can happen.
So well played to both the teams especially to Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur for making our nation proud.
