2018 2019 2020 Honda Accord - Touring Tail Light Swap/Install

  • In this video I explain & walk you through my install process of swapping out the trunk lid tail light from the Sport to the Touring. If you have not heard of the difference between the two, I give a brief description of what that difference is a couple of minutes in to the video.
    ** Note: the tail lights come in 2 parts per side, what I am replacing is the inner part which is on the trunk, NOT the one on the side/body of the car **
    Below are the part numbers for both tail lights and the harness needed to make them work. You can put these part numbers in google, ebay, amazon and see where you can find them the cheapest.
    Left Side: 34155-TVA-A11
    Right Side: 34150-TVA-A11
    Harness: 32108-TVC-A00

    Just thought I would drop in and comment PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE A HYBRID OWNER AND WANT TO DO THIS SWAP: I have a 2020 HYBRID EX and I was-- up until a few minutes ago-- doing this swap. Everything was going okay UNTIL I realized you have to use THIS HARNESS: 32108-TWA-A20 Not 32108-TVC-A00 for the non-Hybrid. There is an extra tail with a plug that feeds a small motor for what I believe is the Lithium-Ion battery cooling system. I just ordered the part from HPN, will report back in a couple days when I complete it. I was doing this and adding the bumper reflector LED turn-sign/brake-light/DRL mod at the same time. On the Hybrid models you will need to remove the bumper to get to the extra plug for the battery cooler.
    Anyway, excellent video, it did help me with my swap quite a bit up until I ran into the aforementioned issue.

      @@tomh53 it's finished and the harness worked. Just note that you need a different P/N harness on the hybrid for the pigtail that goes to what appears to be an active cooler motor for the hybrid traction battery.

    • @DuoMaxwell555
      @DuoMaxwell555 3 роки тому

      @@bikingmoments That's because you need the harness with the extra pigtail for the hybrid battery cooler. I have had this car drive 33,000 miles since I posted ( I bought the car in March of 2020, lol, I drive a lot) and serviced at the dealer three times, no codes. I already am running low tread on the stock Michelins, looking at getting Yokohama Avid Ascend LX. Cheaper, better mileage, and traction. Again, this WILL NOT throw a code if you get the right harness.

    Your the ONLY video now doing the complete wiring harness, showing that main terminal and also that additional connection that doesn’t plug into anything meant only for touring. I got proximity sensors all the way around my 2.0 sport, so my guess is that additional port is meant for those additional sensors. Now all you need is some LED turn signal bulbs from what I can see... awesome video and glad I was able to help you out in pulling the trigger on doing the install yourself.

      Nice! You can do it. Trust me if I can, anyone can. I usually struggle with these kinds of things and they take me longer than they should.
      My best advice for you though is when it comes to routing the harness is find a blatant obvious starting point. For me it was that white plug behind the trunk liner on the driver side. Also you can start from the top and work your way down, meaning plug your wires in to the tail lights then route down the trunk arm in to the trunk and so on.

      I took a long break because my family got home and were away for the weekend. Actual work time I spent doing it was about 3.5-4 hours (between no not know what I was doing and videoing). If I had to do it all over again, id say start to finish no breaks about 2 hours.
      Removing the exisiting clips, especially the ones hard to access, was the worst part out of all of it

    • @volcalstone
      @volcalstone 5 років тому +1

      @@kicks2024 Thanks for the info. Yeah I had a hard time at first removing those clips from the bottom of the bumper under the splash guards. I totally messed the clip on the first one but the 2nd one was reusable. Luckily I didn't need them as my aftermarket rear skirts had some of their own replacements.
      So you have to remove all of the bottom clips to pull off the rear bumper? Looking back it was it even necessary for you to take it off since your was the 1.5 version with no blind spot sensors? Couldn't you just access that that rear light harness from within the trunk liner?

    • @kicks2024
      @kicks2024  5 років тому +2

      @@volcalstone yeah those clips are a pain in the ass.
      I for sure think it can be done without removing the bumper if you choose. Since I really didnt know what I was doing I took it off so I could see everything. Also it just helped for video reference to show whats back there. Im not sure if that one plug I did have to get access to under the bumper could be reached without me taking it off or not.

    • @kicks2024
      @kicks2024  5 років тому

      Correct but the only way to get these Touring lights to work is if you have the harness for them. Thats unless you go about splicing/tapping wires from the stock harness in some way to illuminate the Touring lights.
      Let me say this ... Im sure someone with the 1.5 someday (may have already happened) can/will do this without removing their bumper since there's really only one connection for the 1.5 under the center of the bumper so i think its possibly doable with some work. But anyone with the 2.0 I just dont see how theyll be able to access the plugs on the sides of the car and behind the bumper without removing it.
      For me, not knowing what I was getting in to or what I needed access to, removing the bumper was necessary.

    Are all of you aware that you could have gotten this taillight as a custom option when you originally bought your Accord. You probably just voided your warranty by doing this.

    • @kicks2024
      @kicks2024  4 роки тому +2

      That makes no sense. Doing it myself with the exact OEM parts voids my warranty yet the dealer doing it wouldnt have? This does absolutely nothing to the warranty as it will not cause any issue with how the car runs, and saved probably another $400 without them over charging.
      As for "custom option", nope never heard of the dealers swapping tail lights at time of purchase (wheels sure). A lot of folks didnt even know the trims illuminated differently. And i bought mine a few months after the new gen was avilable so just about nothing was available for add ons

      I believe any audio/electrical shop could install for you, but theyre going to need some parts ordered to make it work since the truck lid doesnt have a functioning light.
      I did it myself 1. Because Im cheap and an audio shop wanted to charge me around $300 to hardwire a dashcam so I said to hell with that and 2. It didnt seem overly complicated since its plug and play with OEM parts

I made sure to use OEM parts and its a plug & play swap, just have to route all the wires. These are made for this car, Honda just elected to only put them on the Touring trim level.
