How quickly the years go by .. Michael taught me The Dutchman in Miami, Fl. at The Flick Coffee House .. 1971 .. I've played it hundreds of times and I never get tired of it ...
I first heard this song in 1993, at a Chicago concert where Anne Hills introduced her version from her new "October Child" release. I have loved it ever since. And while there are many versions out there, none does better justice to this beautiful love story than this one. Maybe it's due in part to the fact that I became a Ronny Cox fan back in the days of "Apple's Way" - long ago when we used to be young men. :-) The backstory to the song makes it even better. Thanks for posting this!!!
Just found out recently his love of singing and music . 2nd is acting . I grew up watching Cox acting as villains . He sings really well . U can tell he enjoys this much more than acting !
The song is one of the best folksongs ever, you bring it with your hart. But I learned from Micheal Smith that the song was enspired while reading the book "The Captain" written by Jan de Hartog and 3 songs. One is called "Old People" by Jacues Brel. The other where a song of the Kinston trio and Gentle on my mind. The story of his sister called Margeret and making them a lovesong, I did not know, thanks for that!
Next thing you know Axel Foley, Clarence Bodiker, Tagert and Rosewood will be backup singers. Sorry Ronnie, just hard to see you in the mountains singing slow bluegrass and folk. Nice stuff Bogamill.
hmmm nice version but a bit too fast. I really like the version that the Irish folkgroup Coracle has more to be honest but each has their own opinion huh ;-)
Beautiful version of an old classic!!

Hi Ronny, it is Becky Isbell an old friend enjoying your music from Irving, Texas!
Wow. Ronny Cox from "Deliverance", he of the "Duelin' Banjos" scene. Also the bad guy in so many movies like Robocop.

Good Job!
He also played Matthew Modine's father in Vision Quest (a radical departure from Dick Jones).

Lol. That's really funny, but it makes sense given where I know Ronny Cox from. So many terse, dark roles and now this.
Valo Gonzalez Really! Hard to see Dick Jones singing Kumbaya, y'know?
Yeah, or Captain Jellico.
Valo Gonzalez LOL!
Un Fortissimo Grazie, per la più Fiabesca delle Storie che ho mai sentito.!Ancora Grazie e Grazie,a Risentirci.
