Oil vs water. I have a collection of vintage of natural stones. I degrease every vintage stone I get in. The impregnated oil is, IMHO probably an indication of what was in vogue at the time. I use water exclusively often with a very dilute soap soloution. Great honing vid 👌🏼
thanks bud. like you I only use water or soapy water and agree with your observations. Where are you from? I can recall seeing this channel handle before.
this makes me happy Leon! It’s why we do this. I learned something from Gary in his comment on this video today. thanks for the positive vibes - bit down, Gigi our jack russell is in hospital, dont know whats wrong with. safe travels and best wishes
@@dappershaves Best wishes to your Jack Russell. We have 3 dogs: 2 Chihuahua and 1 Jack Russell. They are a very special bread. (Did I mention the 2 cats?)
That a nice coticule LGB very nice renowned for very mellow edge . Nice honing session 😊I tend to find the oils on your palm stropping can prevent hht . Great video .
thank you Michael. I only use straight so bound to benefit from all the mistakes I made over the years, now manifested as experience. Practise makes improvements. best wishes Jacques
@@michaelmclelland8440 yes you have done great. That said Im sure you will move to antique straights eventually as your interest in honing/razors suggest your doing some homework 🫡
thank you for the kind words. the stone slurry dries my hands out severely with continuous use, so the gloves prevent that. best wishes and thanks for watching
i have both black and translucent arks from Dan, also soft and washita. there is no real differences between black and translucent edges, at lest for me. thank you for sub, best wishes Jacques

Good stones are not cheap either! Happy New Year's Jacques!🍻🍻🍻🍺🍺🍺
good stone can be expensive, Ive been lucky to pickup many at low prices year ago.
Great video, Jacques. Is the point of the gloves to prevent contamination of the stone (e.g., hair falling off your hand)?
thank you for the kind words. the stone slurry dries my hands out severely with continuous use, so the gloves prevent that. best wishes and thanks for watching
Hello. I don't understand why you don't use a translucent ark instead of a black one. What Arkansas brand did you use? Dan maybe?
