Great video! Thanks for all the info.Your description and graphics were super helpful in understanding. I've been testing an old factory 1022 and a marlin micro groove with several different types of food. They're each incredible(near match level) with certain flavors and feel like I'm throwing rocks with other stuff, but they never like the same thing. Your video has provided a better understanding of why.

Solely on the strength of this video, I purchased, for the first time in my long life, some Aguilla .22 40-grain long rifle ammunition in both the standard velocity and the high velocity. I took them out to the range this morning and tried them out in my 10-22. Both performed very well at 50 yards with target grade groups. The carbine is the factory standard model except that I swapped out the trigger group for the Ruger target grade trigger group and mounted a big, fancy 3X9 variable telescopic sight. The hundred yard groups were both very poor at four and a half inches. Functioning through the action was perfect for both types. I have had similar experience with Remington Target and other loads with that carbine/scope combination. I think that basically I have an excellent 50-yard carbine/scope combination, but 100 yards is just overmuch for practical accuracy. I further suspect that the cause is the scope being parallex adjusted for 50 yards. Now that I have the ammunition, I think that I shall next try it out in my Savage 1919/33 NRA model with a micrometer peep sight. I suspect that the Aguilla ammunition shall do very well at both distances inasmuch as parallex is not germaine to iron sights.

Great work...very informative....I have done some research into other factors. One thing I have found is that the chambers vary a lot. There are perhaps10 different reamer profiles for match rifles alone. Groove diameters also vary...Generally match barrels have very slightly tighter bores. When you couple these differences to the slight varying specs of different bullet manufactures, it explaines why some guns prefer certain ammo while others prefer others. But generally better ammo is made to more exacting specs. I like your approach to the testing...Good results.

Matching ammo/ bullet to barrel /chamber is nessacary in all rifles and calibers. I certainly respect your commitment and innovative ideas. Thanks for sharing. I am planning to get a 22lr semi auto and had decided to go with 10/22 carbine because so many have stated how dependable and durable they are. I also have been interested in match shooting in 22 lr. Would you recommend a factory rifle that be a great start for precision shooting. You said the basic Ruger carbine 10/ 22 shot respectable groups when matched with compatible bullet / mv.
Didnt hear you mention but imagine you have tried match ammo IE Lapua match 22.

Very interesting that the groove WIDTH difference make such a difference. That said, it might have been good to also get the other-two dimensions....to offer a more complete picture of what's going on....meaning......what is the corresponding barrel Land diameter?...and barrel Groove diameter? .. for each barrel. Why do I say this?---> because if you take something like a Waltz resizing die.....after its use it slightly "increases" the diameter of the bullet after the bullet is squashed after resizing, ....so that the fatter bullet then compresses MORE against the lands and grooves...and is more uniform in diameter. Without a doubt this increases accuracy.

Accuracy is ALL ABOUT HARMONICS period more people need to realize that, your barrel nut and action screws directly affect the barrel harmonics.you can either tune the load to the barrel (harder and more expensive and you are at the will of the ammo company with .22lr) or tune the gun once you realize how much harmonics play a role in Accuracy it's a cake walk

That bullet catch tank is a cool idea. One thing I'd change though would be to put it on dirt when firing, so just in case you get a bullet that really tears through there, the worst it can do is go in the dirt instead of bouncing off the concrete. I can't imagine a 22LR would have enough energy to be dangerous after three pillows and a whole tub of water, but it doesn't hurt to be over cautious.

Another thought provoking video! Would you say that the barrel with wider lands and grooves benefits from the longer bullet because of the increase in surface contact. In other words, to compensate for the decrease in surface contact as compared to the narrower lands and grooves barrel version?
I think that it would be helpful if you would put together a table of bullet lengths so that we could verify the results with our own 22 caliber rifles. This would speed up our ability to match ammo to barrels.
