But, its so obvious. He is trying to overcome the intoxicating effect of alcohol, while managing his adrenaline secretions, without soiling his trousers. Probably failed on all three endeavors.
I owned a Little Ship and boy did we give the hire boats a wide berth, always let them go into a lock 1st so they had plenty of room to crash about. I wonder do they drive cars like that, all they need to do is use less load pedal or should I say lever. Quite often you can use the wind to ease you alongside. BS
Anchor dropped, then rammed into another boat, then reversed, then turned around whilst anchor at sea bed...then dragged anchor off while they sailed off! Disgusting!
He should have caught a Stern line first especially since it looked like he was single handing the boat. Could have saved him a lot of time , plus not having to go up on the bow with no one behind the helm.
No, no, no. He was in the middle of his Boating Class. Had he simply waited until graduating at the end of his class ... things might have been different.
Bloody Hell. That looks like a Bayliner my Dad would use on the Niagara River. He got a Pilot license and never drank until after we were done. This twatwaffle would have gone over the Niagara Falls, or worse: Some kiddies nicked the family boat, and took it for a cruise on the Niagara, before we'd gone on it.. They got drunk, as the next smart move, and, despite tonnes of warning signs, well, maybe at night not so visible, with the water running at 68 km +/- there, I suppose they also missed the roar of the impending doom. Teens! Well, when you wonder about Some Divine Being watching out for fools and drunks; this may settle that for you. Right above the actual falls, the boat struck rocks, waking a slumbering ("they said") kid or so below, to a cold, wet and perilous position. Happily for them, some incredibly brave people formed a human chain, across to the foundering lot, and saved all. Except that boat. Which was, as some things will be for those less blessed with such a situation, to know what our response would be, the only thing the son of the owner was able to express concern about. A thank you, I have found, in far lesser moments of gratitude, goes a long way. For a lot of strangers, risking their lives, at night, in those fierce, dark waters, would certainly been something I might have been much more focused on. But, then again, I have swum in that river, but only in the area with half the force of that. With my parents watching me, beside me in their boat, with safety gear, to make sure I was not in trouble, or could be hauled in. Which, I was deeply thankful for. That was in the 80s. I am sure that they weren't the first, or the last. This chap is being watched also, on so many levels!
Lol, I work in the boating industry in my second job and the amount of idiots about is crazy, please sir (OAP) do your powerboat level 2 as it will teach you how to use the correct angle for coming alongside which is 45 degree, you are dangerous on the water
I don't get it. It's a power boat, which should be easy to control. I mean, I have a sail boat with a 4 HP outboard, and that can be a challenge sometimes to judge the boat speed when mooring - but a power boat can stop instantly by putting engine in reverse, and they might even have a bow thruster to control sideway moving. Actually in the beginning, it looks good - low speed, approaching with a 40 degree angel but suddenly everything goes wrong. They could be in control and make a nice mooring - what happened to these guys?
Ya it’s not as easy as it looks. That looks like a 25 or 27, single screw. It takes abit of practice and wind and current change things all the time. it takes time and experience
It is a single screw vessel. Yes, they can steer in forward gear, but the rudder is useless in reverse. The prop thrust causes the vessel to reverse in a favor towards the stern port. These are things that take time to learn, when there is no wind, current, or adrenaline flowing. Lesson #1 ... Boats do not stop instantly.
marshalllhiepler l know. I simply just couldn’t figure out what went wrong - things looked calm and good with a little current, so they could have stopped the forward moving. I guess they got surprised when they hit the other vessel and overreacted by giving full reverse or something - and in reverse, they don’t have same ruddercontrol, as you write, and then things developed...
Unless there is wind and current pushing the vessel towards the barge. Then its: medium medium bump bump bump little more throttle, move a bit faster with that stern line.
No, that's pure frustration. Too many captains on board shouting orders after the first bump. Captain came in a little hot but was nimble with the approach then the shouting started, frustration and overreacting forgetting that boats don't have brakes then over input on the controls. At the end the Captain seemed pissed off the way he horses it around. I hope he slapped the crap out of the other Captains on board. It's not easy lining up for a small piece of real estate to tie up too, had he not bumped the barge the video would never be viewed. Keep on keepin on Captain
@@TexasPlaneDriver, Yep. You understand the mechanics of it. Might I mention the ripples on the surface of the water also? Either there was a breeze in the direction of the barge, or there was some considerable water current adding to the chaos. Oh well, once he gets a safe distance from the scene, its time to have the other captains "walk the plank" at sword point.
Any reason why the people in the longboat just watched him struggle, even letting him hit their boat, and not help him moor it? Are they the miserable and anti-social type who never help others in difficulty?
Oh relax..... we all had a first time and some bumps and bruises. Only one way to learn. It’s not like he went crazy and lost total control. He just needs a few lessons ... bump throttle turn wheel bump reverse turn wheel. The damage costs will make him learn quick. everyone should boat at one time or another in they’re life. Good times !
He said: "... bump throttle turn wheel bump reverse turn wheel." Oh ... now I get it. You are supposed to bump the throttle; not the other boats and docks.
Ah yes! The clarkson manoeuvre, when in doubt, open the throttle!
Looks like its gin o'clock
Wow. I can't even tell what he's *trying* to do there.
But, its so obvious.
He is trying to overcome the intoxicating effect of alcohol, while managing his adrenaline secretions, without soiling his trousers.
Probably failed on all three endeavors.
Quality!... It guys like this that keep the Canal and River trust boys busy.

I know nothing about canal boating but am curious to know if you can be breathalysed if involved in a serious collision. Can any boaters answer?
The US Coast Guard has the authority to administer breathylizer tests to boat operators in the States.
I do not know brittish marine laws, however.
Yes, you can.
“Well I can drive a car so....”
"But, it's slow! it's not like a car or anything..."
Your excuses don't "hold water".
Anchor dropped, then rammed into another boat, then reversed, then turned around whilst anchor at sea bed...then dragged anchor off while they sailed off! Disgusting!
Hey ...
He gets a medal for not winding the anchor line up on the prop shaft.
Abeit, a rather "small" medal. 😉
What, mooring lines only work in one direction, who'd have thought.
Hey, easy on the old guy.
After all he starched that line himself.
Drunk?
I almost stopped before the end! Just wow. More dollars than sense.
He should have caught a Stern line first especially since it looked like he was single handing the boat. Could have saved him a lot of time , plus not having to go up on the bow with no one behind the helm.
Capital M for muppet.
How do you know he was middle class? Class is no arbiter of boat handling prowess.
No, no, no.
He was in the middle of his Boating Class.
Had he simply waited until graduating at the end of his class ... things might have been different.
Omg....what did i just watch???🤔🤣🤣🤣
I've seen 12 year olds handle a boat better.

Just because you have the money to buy a boat, doesn't mean you SHOULD buy a boat ........
That wasn't bad. Just wait until he tries his hand at flying.....
O.k. ... so I crashed my plane into a hanger.
But, it wasn't my fault.
I tossed a line to a mechanic.

Stop instantly!!!! Who is the muppet? Head of penis,, be told there are more drunken drugged up arseholes on the waterways than you could imagine,,
Ya it’s not as easy as it looks. That looks like a 25 or 27, single screw. It takes abit of practice and wind and current change things all the time. it takes time and experience
Power boats do not stop instantly. You also have current , and wind to deal with.
It is a single screw vessel.

Call the police get them breath tested
Call the insurance company, and get them "claim tested".
The wide beam could of helped a bit by moving down the lock moorings rather than sat in the middle
Guilty, by reason of being there?
Should be barred from going anywhere near boats
Slow slow bump bump slow, little throttle and dont rush it
Unless there is wind and current pushing the vessel towards the barge.
Then its: medium medium bump bump bump little more throttle, move a bit faster with that stern line.
drunk captain...

Yet more proof that money is a poor substitute for intelligence
Any reason why the people in the longboat just watched him struggle, even letting him hit their boat, and not help him moor it? Are they the miserable and anti-social type who never help others in difficulty?
you dont know the full story and why they were huddled on the front
Suppose everyone has to have a first time.....
I'll pass that along to my helicopter classmates.
Toss pots in a gin palace.
Some people shouldn't own boats lol and that was only a single prop lol
This guy shouldn't steer a boat. Totally incompetent.

Oh noooo!!! I would not want to be that barge! lol
The canal boats have hulls of thick steel, the drunken cruiser is fiberglass.
Has no one any pity for the butterfly sunning itself on the transom of the barge?
Quel guignol !!! 😆😆😆😅😅😅Mdr
Bell end ahoy
Why didn't you offer assistance rather than video......GRRRRRRRRR
From the other side of the river?
Jakeo, he did offer assistance. He politely didn't call him an arsehole in a very loud voice.
You can't train pork
