Hong Kong-style milk tea, a distinctive mix of Chinese as well as British colonial influences, is consumed on average 2.5 million times a day across the city. Some milk tea makers even train for years to take part in special competitions. For decades, people have savoured it in local cafes, but increasingly the drink has gone upmarket. New brands have been introduced and milk tea can be found in bottles on supermarket shelves, often at a higher price than found in local restaurants. As manufacturers gear up to compete with upscale coffee beverages, we look at the future of the traditional beverage in the latest episode of #852stories
