I'm still new to crochet and learning through videos like yours. This is totally something I found helpful. I'm always looking for ways to learn how to make a project smaller, bigger, trying to figure and learn pattern repeats and the like. Thank you for your tutorials. Wish for more input!!

THANK YOU! I have been trying to figure out a way to enlarge a pattern and I hope this can help me. Very clear and understandable. But then I understand the spreadsheet. Others may have a problem with that if they are not familiar with the programming. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for these tutorials! Also, you are not the only one that needs to “tidy” as you type, haha. I was very pleased when you centered and bolded the titles! 😉

This is absolutely incredible. I had been doing this by hand every time I did a swatch and could never figure out if I was supposed to go up a size or down a size. Math is NOT my strongest skill. I’m going to do this and save my brain for something more important, like trying to remember why I came into this room. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Thank you so much for sharing this. I've been crocheting for over 40 years. Used to make household items and scarves so I don't have to worry about gauge and grading. Then about 15 years ago someone asked me for baby clothes so started down that road. But now I want to be able to share my patterns with others. I'm still learning about gauge and now grading. Working on the spreadsheet as I'm watching the video. Thank you so so much.

WOW! Fantastic video tutorial, was not aware that Google had this platform of spreadsheet format. I've worked with Excel for many years, this will definitely work for me especially on my phone. Thank you so much!! Very helpful and useful, now I can say I will start swatching. Donna

Would you do a series or video from creating your own pattern to grading and tech editing for multiple sizes? So once your pattern is complete, how to size it for different sizes? Also is the process the same for any item, like a blanket or sweater or amigurumi? I’ve seen some about grading for knitting, is that the same calculations and process as crochet pattern grading?

Thank you for this lovely clear tutorial on how to size a project up. I am relatively new to knitting, I have understood completely this spreadsheet technique which seems super super easy and helpful. My question is, when I’m knitting a cardigan or a jumper, and I need to decrease around the armhole for example, how do I make that calculation based on the fact that I’ve added extra stitches for width for example? In other words I don’t want to end up with a super large armhole, or a super small one.... Does this make sense?

I crochet amigurumi animals and was wondering if this would work with them? I can see how it can adjust a granny square, but can it work for me? I usually need to make a pattern bigger or smaller. I have tried using different types of yarn and crochet hooks, but I am the most comfortable with a particular brand of acrylic and a 3.5mm needle.

just bear in mind that your hook./ needle size also plays an important role in determining size

This is why you do a gauge swatch to see how many stitches with a particular hook size.

    • @bhookedcrochet

That's true, you can absolutely do the math in your head. But for those who don't enjoy that aspect of the design process, spreadsheets are there to make things a little easier (and rule out any human errors) :)
