  • The stern section of the OS35 has been re-floated ahead of final stages of removal operations.
These will be halted temporarily ahead of bad weather expected this weekend.
When resumed, the operation is expected to take five uninterrupted days.
The piece of the wreck will then be transported to Holland and sold for scrap.
Work now needs to start on the bow, the remaining piece of the wreck that still requires lifting. The media was invited to see how the picture has changed.
The Captain of the Port described the operation as very complex with the two sections of the ship requiring a different methodology for their lifting.
The stern had been sank deliberately for stabilisation in the knowledge that this was reversible.
This brought with it its own challenges- the bulk carrier had suffered severe storm damage and was cut in half.
Every compartment had to be checked and pressurised with welding patches need in some areas.
It was a slow operation leading up to the contractor being confident that buoyancy could be established while ensuring stability.
The remaining part of the operation is controlled but 'delicate'.

So the news blackout on OS35 is over. No film of the lifting ...? No nothing. A big event in Gibraltar and nothing. £ 6 million on a new studio. Thanks GBC !

It probably dumped out a bunch of oil water so they don't want to show it. 😂
