2025 Tweede Nuwe Jaar/ Cape Town Street Parade

Cape Town, South Africa - 4 January 2025: Thousands of people lined the streets of the Cape Town CBD to watch the annual Cape Town Street Parade. The parade is held annually on 2nd January as Tweede Nuwe Jaar (Second New Year). This festival is rooted in the slave history of the Cape Malays who were given the day off by their colonial slave masters to celebrate the new year. In previous years the festival was also known as the Cape Coon Carnival and the Cape Town Minstrels Carnival.
