If you just want to hear the sound it makes, skip to 2:12. Keep in mind that when you're holding it, it's a lot louder than you hear in this video. Here's the Sound Grenade on Amazon if you want to grab one: amzn.to/2lsIcP6 And of course there are other ways to avoid bear attacks. I made another video talking more about that: ua-cam.com/video/XpFmZLmB5mA/v-deo.html People keep mentioning carrying a gun in the comments. That is, of course, a legitimate and very effective way to deal with a bear, depending on where you are. But you can't carry a gun in all wilderness areas and most people going on camping and backpacking trips either don't have a gun, aren't trained in shooting a gun or simply don't want to hike around with one. Most places bear encounters are extremely minimal, and bear attacks even less likely. If there are no grizzlies but only black bears they scare away easily, especially if you make some noise while hiking. You're more likely to be robbed or worse in the city than you are of having a bear encounter in the woods. But people don't walk around the city with a gun cocked and loaded because of potential thieves. It's important to take certain safety precautions while backpacking, but no need to be paranoid about it. That takes all the fun out of exploring the wilderness.

I carry a boating *air horn* while hiking. It's much deeper in pitch than those personal alarms. I theorize that a deeper pitch will be far more scary to a bear. The only downside is that an air horn is much larger and heavier.
As an Aussie, it always blows my mind when North Americans say that Australia has dangerous animals... Like, what the fuck... Nothing other than sharks and crocodiles can eat you in Australia, both of which are easy as fuck to avoid, just don't go into the ocean or murky rivers in the north of Australia. Yet in the USA and Canada, there's animals that can attack, chase and eat you while you enjoy a fucking picnic in the park...
I have one of these. It really sucks to set it off when you're holding it. But, it's effective. The problem around here is the black bears are "friendly" they get in people garbage, and come right into your yard. And when I'm hiking they will follow you at a distance hoping you're going to throw food. Never feed wild bears! I've had to use this a few times, and they immediately run away. But, I want to clarify none of them were being aggressive at the time.
The sound a 44 magnum makes is very unpleasant also... it also has the added benefit of putting large holes in carnivores that aren't deterred by unpleasant sounds.
A 44 mag is minimum in griz country. I don't live in Alaska or Canada where the big browns are plentiful, but I nevertheless own & carry a S&W 460XVR if I go fishing or whatever in those parts. I don't backpack in bear country such as back country Alaska at all as it is to dangerous sleeping in a soft shelter (tent). I also carry bear spray which works well according to Fish & Wildlife rangers I have spoken to. Never had to try it though.

Mike Parton Makes NO difference. Facts are facts kiddo. Doesn't change anything. If a rouge bear is on the hunt......your gun won't save you either. Lol.
When we dry camp, I use a similar device attached to a small fishing reel with 30 lb test braid line. I have poles I place around my camp site and then string the braid line around that to enclose my tent camper. Should someone/thing enter my space and trips the line, it activates a similar alarm device. My goal is for it to wake me up and alert me that I may need to be ready to take additional steps to provide security. So far, it has deterred a number of large animals. So anything is possible. But, when I comes to an animal that could potentially eat me...I would like to be awake so that I can properly defend myself. ...well...that was tactful! :)
@@jasalvatorekestrazzanti2715 , Yep...it is a bit bothersome! :) The first time I was sitting outside when it got tripped. I looked around the little camper and there it was. I quickly jumped into the car (thankfully it was convenient and unlocked). The second time (about a year later and in an empty National Forest campground) was at night. I was looking out the screen windows with my flashlight but didn't see anything. I stepped outside, turned the corner and there it was. A smaller black bear. We were way too close for comfort...about 8-10' and I didn't have my bear spray. But I did have my..."cap pistol"... So I fired off a couple of "caps" into the ground. The bear quickly ran. That's straight outa the discovery channel 😆 nice. I may do that also... I've on 2 occasions been awaken by a bear while sleeping in a tent. Once at Balch Park which is common and the bears there are what some would call borderline domesticated. The other time though I was hunting in the middle of nowhere, very primitive and had a buck hanging in a tree. Fortunately I knew there were large bears there so it was very high, maybe 15 feet up and on a very thick branch hanging far from the trunk of the tree. My dad woke me up late that night and we could hear it snorting and sniffing, grunting...definitely not trying to be quiet. We both had our guns ready and it passed through. We left that morning after a quick hunt and relocated since we knew it could come back with the fresh meat. That morning though we went out and saw the biggest bear tracks we had ever seen. Unforgettable moment
When I’m in the wilderness I always carry my Ruger Redhawk .44 mag loaded with custom high penetration rounds. Yeah, it’s a little heavy but I know it works. Make the first shot count because you may never get a second one off.
Something to remember: Regarding national parks, it's legal to carry a firearm but it's illegal to fire one, even if it's for self-defense. This includes Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, etc.
BRONZE8020 so your answer is to have an innocent person killed by a killing machine. Just so you can escape. How about bear spray, or that wonderful invention a gun. You could also just stay away from bear country.
The bear is hungry if he wants to attack you so I recommend having a vegan burger ready to feed the bear if he gets too close, that way you won't clog up the bear's arteries and we can have healthy wild life in the woods. If the bear is not a vegan then you are fucked.
Cook and eat before you get to your campsite. Camp off the beaten path and away from any natural food source , Hang your food bag and anything else that even remotely might smell like food. No food smells no reason for a bear to investigate your or your campsite. By being Bear aware it will drop your bear encounters by a good percentage. There is always that one time where one might stumble into your campsite or get curious and check you out. Being aware of your surroundings should handle that. The best preventive item to use is between your two ears. On popular trails I leave the firearms at home and take Bear spray. A bullet can travel miles before stopping. The spray is at best good for 35 feet and covers a larger area. Plus you can use the bear spray on all sorts of critters. I have been around firearms all my life including a law enforcement combat pistol team. I have a active Concealed carry permit for firearms and still prefer the Bear spray. Florida only has Black Bears.
You don't leave your gun at home! Just bc you have it on you doesn't mean you have to use it! You carry it for any last resort scenario! Might as well have a home alarm system but not ever arm it bc it might wake the neighbors if it goes off lol. 🙄

This device would not work, as you pull the pin, and it turns on. Also rubberizing it means the batteries cannot fall out, it can be thrown hard of soft. I use these for one reason, for my dog or cat to be corralled and made to evacuate a room or even the home in an emergency, such as a fire or any emergency. I have two sets of two on opposite sides of the house. When my house alarm goes off, my cat darts under the bed. I love the analogy of "I would rather have it that don't have it" or "better safe than sorry", yet when you propose to carry a gun, the Liberal Times virtuosity monster comes out of some people and they give you second amendment trouble.... ??
Because it's a stupid thing to carry. Noise deterrence is more evidence-based, safer way to prevent an attack unless you want to undergo therapy for the rest of your life when you have shot and killed someone or injured an innocent bystander by accident. . . or you just enjoy VIOLENCE AND DEATH.
I wish we have the ability to roar as a Lion! That would probably scare any animal away! Seriously though, I will never go into Bear country without a Big gun, even 38 caliber is not enough according to experts, especially against Grizzlies.
I thought you had bear spray! I don't think that panic alert would scare a grizzly,, maybe a black bear . Walking through the woods with pots and pans clanging may detract black bears , not Grizzlies or mama bears ,Pepper spray is banned in Canada. Needed; reliable and humane methods of bear repellant! A sharp walking stick? 😂
A bear would kill you ten times before you could get it with your waking stick lol
lol, i could barely hear it. maybe i should put my hearing aids in.
I have my .38 special
I run into a bear,I chased him off running a mountain lion whipping him with a rattle snake, just saying
Did you get it on video?
Gabriel Traveler no electricity around I've got the real old style camara....lmao
Mountain lions are easy to kill with just a 22. Bears are a whole nuther subject.
I love the analogy of "I would rather have it that don't have it" or "better safe than sorry", yet when you propose to carry a gun, the Liberal Times virtuosity monster comes out of some people and they give you second amendment trouble.... ??
Because it's a stupid thing to carry. Noise deterrence is more evidence-based, safer way to prevent an attack unless you want to undergo therapy for the rest of your life when you have shot and killed someone or injured an innocent bystander by accident. . . or you just enjoy VIOLENCE AND DEATH.
you must be a joker showing a toy as a lethal weapon, in my country you can get it for some few cents in toy shop..
This guy definitely didn’t vote for Trump
Ouchhhh my ears!!!!!!
Guns are way louder
44mag is all you need to stay safe and feel safe especially when you're alone
fog horn
Dude play the fucken noise I. Have a fucken real. Bear at my rv
Rape alarm lol
Too much talking
I wish we have the ability to roar as a Lion! That would probably scare any animal away!
Seriously though, I will never go into Bear country without a Big gun, even 38 caliber is not enough according to experts, especially against Grizzlies.
this was useless device... no 1 come to your rescue :)
In the case of bears the point isn't to alert someone else, it's supposed to scare the bear away. If it does, it wasn't useless.
Throw 🐻 2 peanut butter buns, it will distract bear for a min till you say your prayers 🇨🇦
Hahahahaha -_-
I thought you had bear spray! I don't think that panic alert would scare a grizzly,, maybe a black bear . Walking through the woods with pots and pans clanging may detract black bears , not Grizzlies or mama bears ,Pepper spray is banned in Canada. Needed; reliable and humane methods of bear repellant! Love your vids Gab, How much for an Instagram account?🐻🐼🐨🦄❤️😍
I've never bought bear spray, but I agree it's a good idea to consider in grizzly country. Bear spray is actually legal in Canada apparently. I was curious so I checked:

Instagram is free to create an account.
Must be clearly labeled "Bear Spray" or "For the deterrence of ANIMALS". Mace is illegal in Canada.
A gun is the best source of protection. #maga
Thats it
