Underground 1 is easily my favorite NFS. The soundtrack sends so many memories through my head. I ALWAYS enjoy popping this one back in.
Pro tip: You can make the game extremely easy by just not buying upgrades.
Loved the cities ascetics and atmosphere. Always preferred the Skyline over the RX-7 myself, so never found out how op it was.
Skyline engine sound from Underground was iconic and nostalgic for me even though it's not at all realistic but I usually went with that, used the RX-7 in Drag and Drift since it was so easy to drift and had the best top speed and acceleration
i always picked the civic and had such a tough time near the end of the game.
i only liked the civic because of the body mods lmao
Even if you don't like racing games, you're going to like NFSU.
The inclusion of Lostprophets both in the soundtrack and the vinyl aged like fine milk though. We all know what the hell happened to Ian Watkins which is too egregious for me to even mention.
I’m glad it gives you the option to turn their song off because… yeah
@@anusername8350 It's not like we can't mod them out of the game though. ;)
Even though he was a disgusting piece of shit I still like the song
You just have to remember that the rest of the band was cool and they all despise him to this day lole
I agree with you! Thank Christ this game lets you remove songs from rotation, yet as much as I like to keep my consoles (as) authentic (as possible), I hope the unfortunate decals and custom car in this game can be modded, maybe via a memory card and sideloading? Maybe change the band logo to Underground, Xbox or something? For the GameCube version, I’d propose Play It Loud, a reference to Nintendo of America’s mid-90s advertising campaign!
Happy 20th Anniversary Need for Speed Underground!
Oh no not the Lostprophets livery on the R34! I sure wish I never had to find out what happened to them lol
I know, VERY unfortunate! If I had known when it happened, I would’ve asked EA to recall the game and distribute modded copies with that livery, and the song, replaced! Maybe Xbox owners could get an Xbox-themed livery and GameCube owners “Play it Loud”? (Play it Loud was Nintendo of America’s slogan in the mid-90s)
myfavourite NFS is Underground 2, might be a bit biased by it being my first NFS ever but damn it has sooo many features no other NFS had before or after
Well, this was an "open world", that just wasn't open, so in terms of track design it actually doesn't differ much from NFSU2. In both cases they build a city and then drew tracks on the streets.
The only significant difference is, with this game not allowing free roaming, they wouldn't have to build all the parts of the world fully, so they could just leave holes in places where no race track takes you.
4:18 The irony of him saying the music of this game holds up well when he's racing in a car with a Lostprophets vinyl.
I love it when u make another nfs content. Brings so much nostalgia
Rubber banding was always my favorite thing that I didn’t know it was there! I never noticed it, but it’s so much fun how you’re always competing with the AI, while in other games they can be just left behind easily… on this you’re always on edge, they’ll will always find a way to catch you up, SUPER FUN!
It feels like the drivers evolve and learn with you, makes the game so much dynamic!
And ye this is one of my 2 favorites, Underground and Most Wanted!
Only real OGs remember when BlueTag put a Supra spoiler on an Eclipse 2000, as mandated by law. Loved being here for these streams, Blue. Thank you for streaming!
I recently pulled out my PSP to play Underground Rivals.
This is the first EVER game i played on my gamecube the 25 décember 2003.... i remember this like yesterday; i was 7 years old, played it on an old and small cathodique TV and the first car i used was the MX5 on the first circuit available.... time flies by so quickly it's insane....
I also remember the horrible race, at the airport with 7 laps, and Matt/Mate ? Golden S2000.....
My nightmare....
The was the beggining of my journey towards NFS, until..... unbound....
Great video, keep at it !
The rubberbanding is broken by knocking the competetion into obstacles, 15+ second leads everytime on hard. Try it out.
Amazing game. Especially in its time.
Some of my fondest gaming memories are with this game - we had local split screen tournaments for this game. Winning the one I entered felt insane, especially for an 11-12 year old kid.
Underground 2 had the best car sounds and customisation, Most Wanted had the best gameplay and story, Carbon had the best car selection, but Underground had the best soundtrack.
Yeah but the underground 2 visuals seem to be downgraded from the Underground i love underground more compared to 2 nd part ..
@@martinjohn7513 I think it's the drawback of having an open world on PS2, you have to cut corners somewhere. But on PC with a HD texture packs it looks pretty dope still to this day.
The soundtracks and the customization of the cars were the main selling points for me.
I got hooked up to NFSU when my fmly bought a PS2 (our 1st gaming console) and got the game for free. I love the game because it always got mu pumped up with andrenaline everytime I played it.
Couple years later, I played the PC version and loved it even more. I always played with manual transmission, stability off, catch up on, and hard difficulties because I love running away from AI. If NFSU ever get a remake, I wish they add open world, hood/cockpit pov camera and keep the physic. I would totally buy it.
Still in these days the progression of this game is definitely in here.
The more I progress the game, the more I feel like my car gets faster and faster...this feels genuinely rewarding.
infintely more replayable than underground 2
High Stakes remains my favorite even in this day. There was/is a huge mod scene including tools to let you make cars, tracks, edit, and literally make your game your own. There's also mods to increase the poly count to allow you to install higher detailed cars. I was even making mods towards the /end/ of that era.
The soundtrack... also the best in the series followed by underground 2, imo. The music by Rom Di Prisco and Saki Kaskas greatly affected my taste in music and parts of my life >.>
@@BlooTeg Alright, now im hyped. High Stakes is my all time fav nfs.
I just loved the in-car view and police mode of the PC version. Being able to switch between units on the fly to coordinate roadblocks and such was amazing!
Almost never played as a racer with cops though as little kid me thought getting caught ment the police would take the game away IRL!
9:11 HEY MOM I MADE IT INTO BLUETAG'S VIDEO
My best advice for the super hard races (which btw stay hard on ALL difficulties) is to turn off Nitro altogether. AI cheats a lot with it but if you don't have it, they won't have it either
@@K3ntucky123 Yeah I never really used it anyway but the AI is using it and in some races more than the player could
I'm thinking of buying the PC DVD for this game, and I'm probably the only one to say this but the car customisation looks sick as hell personally.
5:07 Even Tony Hawk would be proud of that
Great game and great video. While MW2005 still remains my favorite, nothing will ever rival the nostalgia this and Hot Pursuit 2 brings me since those were my first 2 NFS games and some of my first games overall. And, like you said, it aged wonderfully and I still see myself coming back every now and then and still not get bored of it.
I played the hell out of this game in my childhood
This game was one of the best only thing that bugged me over the years is that you couldn’t free roam the city and at first i thought when I saw free run in the quick race I thought of free roam but it was just circuit tracks all in all this was one of my childhood racing games of all time
This wasn't my first NFS game but it was the one I played the most as a kid. It also has my favorite soundtrack out of all NFS. Personally, I'm always in the mood for replaying it but if someone that tries it for the first time finds it too outdated, it's understandable. In many ways it's just a product of its time filled with things that were only cool for the 2000's. You had to live in those times to really appreciate it.
Man nfs underground 1 was such a great game, the cars, music and race types were just amazing, i remember it introduced me to JDM cars and car customization
As a tip, the AI cars in the game are upgraded to your car's performance, so if you face a race that just feels too unfair, remove some of the upgrades from your car, and suddenly you have a way easier time beating them ^^
It's a quirk in this game that wasn't nearly as bad in Underground 2 (tho in Most Wanted it came back again at times... rubberbanding overall is just not a good feature imo)
Not good at all. Out of my top 5 NFS games 1 doesn't have it and that's Heat.
@@sambeezy007 maybe so but Heat sucks, so that’s not really a positive
@blinkachu5275 It's subjective. I liked Heat and Payback because it doesn't have rubberbanding. They both have flaws but the core gameplay overshadows them.
Played it two years ago. 55" TV, 4k60 with a graphics mod. Easily 9/10 game.
I actually preferred underground 1 over 2. People call me mad but being able to just press "next race" and not having to drive to an upgrade shop or a race is so much better imo.
UG was not a bad game at all but for me the #1 three: Motor City Online, Porsche Unleashed (2000), and the classic III: Hot Pursuit.
So thanks to this video I went and installed NFS Underground and played it on my modern PC in 2023 and it felt just as amazing as playing it for the first time back in 2004 when I was just a kid. In my opinion Underground 1 was far better than Underground 2, sure Underground 2 had the whole open world thing and mass customization but overall I think the arcadish speed of the first game is far better, it felt more aggressive and the sound track is the reason I am a metal head till today.
I adore this game. Never finished it as a kid as I got stuck on Kurt's Killer Ride but when I completed it recently I found it too easy overall, apart from the drag races. It has this dreamy atmosphere that very few, and none recent games seem to have; and I don't know if it's the aged graphics, the nocturnal setting or the repeating tracks (a little too much repetition for today's standards in fact), but it somehow pulls it off.
Unfortunately,
I never used the RX-7 during my play through. Mainly because I didn’t want to use the overpowered car and wanted to use the skyline (what a mistake that was when I got to event 95 and 112)
I loved playing Underground 1 on my PS2. I wasn’t such a pro but I had sooo much fun. Awesome video!
I will never forget the memories at my cousins house playing drift and being bad at the drag event and the customization was one of the coolest at the time, nice review✌🏽
I still see buses in mexico with nfsunderground customization
I realized late how good the rx7 was too the skyline was my work horse through the latter half of that game went back and blazed through all the races like they were nothing
Agreed, I am glad that others also consider this game as their favorite NFS game.
You're telling me Underground 1 had more visual customization than MW 05? Gonna need to buy a PS2 for this one!
I love underground to death, although I never beat it (Kurts Cheating Ride), I loved every bit of it. The music, the cars, the speed and handling, and Im still one of those people who like riced out cars so the customization was dope. The game is far better than UG2 in my opinion, and I definitely think its a contender for the best need for speed game. Loved the video man :)
Man i Hate this Racing of ALL my Heart, really the game is really good but this Race Destroy them
1:34 *Acura Integra Type R
i played the shit out of the OG Underground on ps2. the mid 90s Mitsubishi Eclipse was my favorite car
Even how great this game is (also my childhood game) I still can't forgive those rubberbanding AI especially Event 95 and 103.
@@BlooTeg There's a trick: You could just downgrade the car into stock to make it "easier".
Had played this game a Months ago. The game can be Funny at the time whenever i get countered a Weird Physics of the game. But i do still enjoyed this game after i got U2, MW and Hot Pursuit with me. *Nostalgias are Never Forgotten* 💪
This is one of my favorite NFS games. I'm currently playing it on my old Windows XP machine.
I never even played this first game 🤔 My first was Underground 2 and i played it non stop lol I loved that game! But this first game actually looks really good.
*TO THE WINDOWWWWWWWWWW TO THE WALL*
This game alongside Midnight Club 2 will always have a special place in my heart as the pinnacle of racing games
The handling is so light and responsive in Underground, probably the best in any NFS game. However the crash physics are really annoying (see 5:09), the races get more and more repetitive, unfair and just tedious as the game goes on, plus I think the later games did both drag and drift much better, so all of this keeps me from being a big fan of Underground. Not that I didn't have a lot of fun with it, but I didn't bother finishing it.
We starting in Integra Type R not RSX
Having alot of fun memories frome this game, I was just waiting to end the day at the school and do some races & customise cars.
The 7 laps race in the later stage of the game was very frustrating for me at 9yo...
you can drive an Eclipse 10/10
5:00 ProStreet, Heat and World do not exist then
5:10 and i normally say that like, 40% to 60% of the popularity of these games (specially MW) is made by nostalgia, but i recognize that they do have their good things. And Most Wanted is in my top 15 or top 20 best racing games. It's just that other games were so much better, not only overall but also in some of the concepts. Underground's customization was better than Most Wanted's customization, and HP2's police was better than MW's. But people still talk like:
-so, what about High Stakes?
-MW BE BETTER
-and Midnight Club L.A.?
-MW BE BETTER
-NFS World?
-MW BE BETTER
-...and Hot Pursuit 2010 maybe?
-MW BE BETTER, YOU NOT INTELLIGENT
(exaggerated but you get my point)
This game leads that list that "games that i rage quitted". goddamn, the rubberbanding is a big piece of dogs h1t, especially in those 6 laps races. Impossible.
This is one of the first games I have ever played in my life, and what I say next might be (or rather, very likely is) affected by nostalgia, although I have revisited it several times very recently and I still like it just as much. Despite being the beginning of it all, it seems weirdly overlooked even among the other Black Box era Need for Speeds, especially compared to Underground 2, so I'm really happy someone finally made a video about it.
I see many people mentioned the soundtrack or customization as their reasons for remembering the game fondly, but I want to talk specifically about the game's handling model, which I think is a masterpiece. It remains my favorite handling model of any arcade racer in existence (exceptions like Ridge Racer or more difficult models like Forza's aside). It's hard to put into words, but it simply feels right and I agree with the way you described it. It's tight, it's responsive, but at the same time it doesn't feel overly stiff, or limited in technical ability. It feels free yet simultaneously precise. You're never simply stuck with understeer permanently. This is especially obvious in slower, less upgraded cars, which are very often prone to entering slides when cornering hard. This is also an area where you start to notice some interesting quirks of the handling and you get the opportunity to evaluate the depth of the handling model. FWD and AWD cars tend to oversteer more than RWD cars, weirdly. This, combined with the fact that FWD has more grip when rolling off the line leads me to believe that maybe FWDs have the front tires set to have more grip than regular, which would explain both behaviors.
It's also interesting how braking in corners amplifies the oversteer, almost as if the game can account for weight transfer (which I do think it absolutely does, see the cars' inertia when weaving or their behavior in drift mode). I'm pretty sure the game even takes torque from the wheels into account, as I've had my car perform wheelies when trying to accelerate after a crash, while it's still in the funky physics mode. Other things that make me truly appreciate the physics and handling are the fact that going over curbs can, and will, unsettle your car in corners, instead of you simply driving over them like they're not there. You might also think that wheelspin is special cased to only occur in 1st gear when launching off the line, but if you play with the Monte Carlo Project modpack, which changes the physics to try and emulate snowy conditions, you'll see that it can happen even in 2nd or 3rd gear, especially if you use nitrous (and a lot of other fun stuff, it's definitely a modpack worth trying if you like playing Underground).
Looking at the wall of text I just wrote, while it might be excessive, I really wanted to bring to light some interesting things I've observed about Underground's handling physics. I feel like they're somewhat underappreciated, considering they're the main factor that made the game age so well, at least in my opinion.
I'm playing this game again and it left a smile on my face. My top 5 (but you can make the order):
- Carbon
- Heat
- Underground 1
- Underground 2
- 2015 (Underground 3)
My favorite game of all time, i still remember when i got home back from school running to play Underground 2 haha, was like 10 years old back then
cant wait for most wanted 2005 on that has bullet for my valentine
Love this new series, I’m really interested in your opinion abt the nfs series
Growing up, UG1 was always my favorite racing game. I had played Hot Pursuit 1 & 2 prior, both Destruction Derbys, etc & I easily dumped the most hours in this game as a kid.
These were the NFS Glory Days. From HP 3 up until Carbon were the GOATS
yup, this deserves a sub
Miata was top car if you have all unique parts on it
*An incredible accident happens due to the game's tomfoolery*
Everyone else: "G#*D#*NSH*#F*#%6S! I F*#%&NG hate THIS GAME!!!"
BlooTeg: "okay"
if the drag races is impossible to picking the wrong car knows Acura Integra is still 5 gear and the most easiest Drift car is RX-7
those streams were great i watched whilst playing underground 2
when are you gonna do underground 2 just asking since its my childhood game
Underground 2 and Most Wanted are the best NFS games ever made. No question.
Heh what a nice twist on the series
Also I had fun watching you malding on drag races on stream lmao
Underground 1 and 2 are the 🐐
Lets Goo blue tag. Happy to see you review something you Actually enjoyed after reviewing so many bad games you didn't like ❤🐀
Great video love it ❤
The first nfs underground was really good the only thing I didn't like was the rubberbanding it gets kinda unfair at times😭
Love the vids, keep er lit bluetag.🔥
For a game almost old enough to drink it holds up
When the online existed the lobbies for drag racing was drowned with RX-7s since every other car would engine blow
My favorite car was the Miata got smoked every game online XD
i never played nfs underground 1 but after this video i tryed it and i was great
I downloaded it for my PC when I saw you livestreaming it and it is partly nostaglia talking but it's a fun game! honestly I prefer it to the newer ones (Heat, Unbound)
Who says weird!!?
Customizations is still COOL
Cant wait for the nfsu2 and mw livestreams, one thing about mw that you should check is the remix mod, It revitalises the game with hundreads Of vehicles and features , fix some Of main issues like the piss filter and puts its on par with the best racing titles today, If not better.
IMO Underground has way better customization than any other NFS game
NFSU1 >>>>>>> NFSU2
I could go on for hours about why I think NFSU1 is far superior to NFSU2
And honestly it's probably my favourite NFS next to Hot Pursuit 2 on ps2
5:00 , its definitely not nostalgia because i never played need for speed underground 1 and i still think its driving physics are much more enjoyable than new gen nfs
The environment was definitely really good for the time. It looked way better than the midnight club games of the same era
Great work again man respect 🙏 I love street racing games all because of this masterpiece and its savage sequel thanks for the memories 😊keep up the fantastic content 👏 😀
Hey everyone, apparently there was a problem in the end of the video and member photos didn't show up. I'll thank everyone again in the next video! Sorry for the inconvenience!
My favourite nfsme
That fine homie ❤ 🐀
i watchesd ur stream :) been there xD ...
