The first time I played this game was years ago, probably closer to 20 years ago, at our usual store. It was a demo. I was a fan ever since. Got the game for PS2 later on and have become a certified Ape Escape 3 master.
Ah damn. My favorite platformer (and perhaps one of the first games I bought NEW for my own money - and it was a STEAL, ~10 euros INCLUDING postage). It's seriously underrated in my opinion. Everybody remembers the original, most remember the sequel, but the third one is rarely talked about. And it's such a shame. I loved the movie theming (with some nice references - like Monkey Blue fight opening with a very close remake of a scene from "For a few dollars more"), transformations were quite nice gimmicks (although ninja DESTROYED the game's difficulty in half... unitl you tried time trials). Most of the levels were really fun (I remember disliking only the Terminator one by the end). Sure, it was even more gimmicky than the previous games, but... eh, I'll allow it this time. Also... I always chose Kei (just like with Brendan in Pokemon R/S/E), so... now you know one person now! ...and it's pretty unfair that Yumi gets it bit easier by having few monkeys who simp for her. It's not too late to enjoy RC cars, especailly since you can get some really cool ones cheap now. Great fun, especially if you manage to find other enthusiasts of RC racing (...and then you get into modding and other stuff to get an edge.. ah). Geez, it must be bit hard for you, huh. Living in Germany - the nation known for SUPERB driving conditions and roads, home of so many well-known auto-manufacturers and racing teams... eh, you sure you don't want to try to go for the licence? I never made one because I'm too lazy and our licence exams are notoriously hard and unfair (and I'm afraid that if I get my own car I'll be doomed with the rest of my time because of tinkering and putting a lot of cash into it). I did quite a lot circuit and offroad driving though (my dad had an access to a city junkyard when he worked as an city auto-inspector, so we've made a racing track there years ago). Cars (and bikes) are fun! Do you enjoy racing games or aren't into cars at all? Characters were fun, the game was even LESS serious, there was SO MUCH STUFF to unlock (including really fun minigames... I like how Mesal Gear Solid was actually a selling point for some)... yeah, it was pretty great. Cyber Ace? Whosdat? In MY PAL version it was Gotchaman (which was another nice reference!) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Oh, and the music! Best soundtrack in the series. From transformation music (Gotchaman's theme!) to boss battles (...banana heartbreak
For me it always felt like the other way, most people I knew did not talk about Ape Escape 2 and 3 was more like the darling of the franchise. Not like it matters since all three of them are amazing games! I'm a total noob when it comes to movies so I'm kinda happy they went with so many more popular picks that even I can get when it comes to the references! I do like the Terminator level though, even if it just goes on and on, and I say this as someone who only watched the first Terminator and hated it lots and it made me never watch another one... (One day I will watch Terminator 2, one day...) For me that's the total opposite, I just always picked the girl in a game if it allowed me to, or just made a girl when it has a creator. It's just cuter and even if it makes the game only 1% cuter it means the game is 1% better! I mostly wouldn't wanna get a license because it scares me. I have no problem being a passenger, but whenever I think about having to drive a car myself I just think, "Hell no". Not even because I'm scared of other drivers but mostly because of myself and doing a mistake that cost other people their life. Maybe one day I will get over that but luckily Germany is also one of those countries that you don't truly need a car in because of its infastructure, for the most part... If we ignore our trains barely being on time... And I'm probably as little into cars as possible. For me an Audi Golf is basically the same as a Lambo, I look at it and think, yep, that's a car! I do or did enjoy racing games when I was younger though such as Underground 2 or some of the Ridge Racers, so mostly more arcadey ones. If you hand me Gran Turismo I would probably fall asleep instantly... Gotta keep things American for the American audience sometimes... (and I think Cyber Ace kinda sounds cooler, sorry to Gatchaman, a show we never had here in Germany and I first learned about it in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. The only character I knew from Tatsunoko in that game was the genie that comes out when you sneeze, I loved that show when I was young) Thank you Notepad for saving the day, yay!
@@Vanserchan Aw... Terminator 2 is completely worth a watch, though! At least do that (I beg you)! I can understand that, I suppose. Back then I had a big problem with associating with female characters (to the point that I couldn't really enjoy FFVI because you play as Terra for a while at the beginning), then I got a bit better. I mean, female characters are awesome! And I enjoy playing as them if they are well written or awesome! But if I'm making my own character 90% I go with males (though sometime, like in Soulsbornes, I use a character from RPG sessions I ran as GM). To each their own I suppose! I hope there will be one day where you'll defeat your fear and discover the joys of drivin'! I just love how VARRIED racing games were back in a day. It was such an easy genre to make (which is why there is so much of them in the PS1/PS2 era) and it's fun to see differences between each game. But thanks for the video. I like how there's always an element of surprise when it comes to the "hero" of your video. Yer full o' surprises Van! ...oh, and I forgot in my original comment... "Run n' jump"... so what's the German term? Just "springen und rennen"? As I've said before, my German is extremely rusty. In Poland we just called the games like these "platformówki" (which is just like a really soft way of saying "platform game"). Any spoilers what game you'll take on next? ...or is it chosen on a whim?
@@Hodyna One day I will be able to overcome that fear but for now the bus and train will do! Or maybe I will just learn how to ride a train without ever learning how to drive! Just like how one day I will watch Terminator 2... (There's so many classic movies I have to catch up on...) Do you mean like, the topic of the video with the "hero"? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding it. If that's what it means though I just kinda like to do a video on things I recently enjoyed or feel an attachment to, regardless of how popular it is/was/will become! Variety is the spice of life after all! Never let them know your next move... No, we really just call them Jump N' Runs in German without using the German words for it. I have no idea why but every German gaming magazine or website back then just called them that and the funny thing is I always thought that's how every country calls them because it just makes sense. Till I went online and started talking to English-speaking people and they were like... "What the frick is a Jump N' Run?". People use Run N' Gun for stuff like Metal Slug but when I use Jump N' Run they just laugh at me... ; _ ; I'm currently working on a whole bunch but one of them is gonna be about Fuzzy and Floppy, a really, REALLY obscure game I had to look for a long time and finally got to replay it after like... many, many years! And probably a video about the new Zelda game soon... and a general video about dead game franchises (Thanks to Ape Escape) and and and...
@@Vanserchan To be honest I always thought you were more into the movies. I mean... you sure seem well cultured all-around! But yeah, there's a lot of GREAT classic movies that everyone should watch. T2 is definitely one of them (learning to do the "Terminator shotgun reload" was one of the things on my bucket list since I've seen it for a first time at 6 years old... and I already scratched it, but learning to ride motorcycle still remains). Ah... sorry... I was... *rolls for dodge* tired when I've wrote it. But yeah, you got it right, I was asking for exactly that. ...jeez. Just like with that maid game, you've completely surprised me. Never head of it, though I was never really into the old PC adventure scene (not after I played Kongo... a terrible, TERRIBLE game). But nice to hear you have a plan (and know how you get into what's the next video is going to be). As always... I'll be waiting as your personal sta... fan. Huh, yeah, it was the first time I've heard that term too. Though now it fits more to the runner games? I always liked to call platformers "adventure" games. I didn't really differentiated between Tomb Raider or Crash Bandicoot - you just have your character and you do stuff. Honestly, "platformers" as a term seem to fit 2D games more, but... eh, I'm rambling (hope nobody will call me for being "dimensionist"). Have you tried the new Cat Quest? ...I wanted to make the video about it as it is really short (5-6 hours to 100%) and how it is ok for it to be so, but I've waited for too long I suppose. Fun, cute game that reminded me a LOT of the Overboard! (or Ship Wreckers for your prefered audiences ;3) during the ship sequences. Thanks again for indulging my parasocial relationship.
@@Vanserchan Non-shitpost: Great video, by the way. I enjoy your content a lot! You've made me want to try this, so I've acquired a totally legal backup.
