What happened to us though? We had our own sound man, authentic, beautiful, KENYAN sound.. It breaks my heart everytime I see a top Kenyan artiste trying to sing like a Nigerian or a bongo artiste, going as far as turning their 'r' to 'l' so that they can sound like a Tanzanian and yet, we have our very own sound here..
Times are changing bro. Music is now a profitable business and to spread far and wide you have to relate to your potential market base. Anyway, nostalgia is the biggest disease plaguing our music(hip hop) industry.
Kapuka and genge you mean? That's simply afro pop... alternate sounds have just done a rendition to the clasic songs that we grew up listening to so it hits differently in both the nostalgia effect and creatively different version.
As a matter of fact.kenyan music was hitting before naija afrobeats.kapuka and Genge is simply afrobeats and afropop.Naija just did more branding and marketing. Check when MAMA awarda started.Kina nameless, amani and wahu won. KENYANS WE NEED TO TAKE BACK OUR THRONE IN AFRICAS MUSIC SCENE. We are the most influential country in the EAST.
Superb. The trick this band doesn’t know yet is that the generation that was graced with this experience was in college back then. The same generation/audience (in their late 30s and early 40s) has the economic power now to drive their numbers. Numbers don’t lie. Watch this space.
Great Kenyan old skul music if u were not born in those days your not Lucky this are the only best music kenya will ever heard big up to our legends dead or alive we respect you darlings 😍❤️🔥🔥💯
Listening from California Work sucked today but after my friend shared this mix I my mood got better 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🔥🔥🔥. Mzidi kunarikiwa sana. If talent was a person ni hii band ya kenya 🇰🇪
I think this shows how Ogopa and Calif did some different stuff but still they all did good. Ogopa was leaning more to singing and Calif was leaning more to Original Genge as genre. All is 🔥🔥🔥 but I need to say Jua Cali was GOAT, together with the two producers from Ogopa and Calif. 👌🏾💪🏾
Listen up Kings!!! If I could break the glass with the like button I would have already. This performance has permanently secured you a spot in Kenyans' hearts. This is such a classic mash up that will forever be on our playlists. Asanteni sana. Much love. Keep doing the ama, ING work. God bless🙏🏿 #fromafricatotheworld
Nostalgia. I remember 2008 Juacali was at his peak and an event would be deemed incomplete without him. So, at the graduation square UoN I went to experience one of his many shows. The fact that I remember it today is testament to his stage presence. He was larger than life, at least according to me and many of my peers then, and, he was the one to close the show. He was always saved as the best for the last. He brought the house down. Sorry, the graduation square down. Long story short, by the time he was done, beads of sweat and evident panting from everyone as a result of dancing proved why he was/is a legend todate. I'm listening to this today and man, if you were born outside years 82-92, I'm deeply sorry. You missed out.
