In most cases, it is one of the reason why they have not been champions yet since Kimi. Had they prioritized Kimi over Massa at 2008, I think they would have clearer shot at winning the championship. This is probably one the best race I know in the 21st century, and DEFINITELY the best drive by a single driver in a race. Not even close. It was a dry race, no red flags, no changeable condition, on a track that was pretty difficult to pass. That means Kimi would not be able to pass ten cars at a time by getting into the pit at the right moment. It was pure pace, lap after lap after lap, then a magnificent pass in the end. Like Allen said. Grand Prix racing at its very best.
And the lap prior too. Fisi should have won this race easily. Perez gets slated for being slow compared to Max but Fisi was even worse! @@corpsecoder_nw6746if you ask me, the tyre situation stemmed from a freak occurrence in Canada 2010. After the normally robust Bridgestone tyres were discovered to be wearing much faster than usual, resulting in an interesting race of strategy and tyre management, the FIA and others jumped at the chance to achieve the same thing. They mandated new tyre supplier for 2011, Pirelli, to create tyres that thermally degraded much faster than the Bridgestone tyres did. The problem is, with it becoming a frequent occurrence, F1 teams got round this by conserving the rubber, minimising the amount of stops as they could, to overall finish races more quickly

@corpsecoder_nw6746 although conserving rubber on the tyres has always been a thing in motorsport to some degree, it became much more noticeable with the switch to Pirelli, when the powers that be tried to gimmick their way to more exciting races.
I watched this race live, with my teammates of my FSAE team, a dozen of us yelled at like 3 am or something when Kimi took the lead....something I'll forever remember...
This was my very first F1 race to watch. Watching Kimi stalking Fisichella was breathtaking, each lap bringing him closer and closer but then was the pass possible? Oh yeah! When he did I became an F1 fan until F1 management and the stewards so outrageously engineered who was going to win in 2021.
Still the greatest f1 race I ever watched. 2 in the morning here in the US and I woke up the whole family when kimi passed fisi and yelled in excitement
I taped this race back in 2005 and watched it again and again. It was epic back then and nice to see it's still epic to this day. Raikkonen doing that pass into turn 1 was crazy to see and IMHO is the best pass ever.
Basically, what was needed to get an actual good race from 2005 was to have an inverted grid. Still, absolutely phenomenal race that everyone should watch at least once on their life. And also one that shows just how much Kimi fell off compared to Alonso, nobody at that time would ever hope to imagine that he'd get his points tripled by Alonso if they were to become teammates.
@@Starfire_Storm Drivers are humans and aren't constant. Kimi isn't the only one. Mika lost to DC convincingly in 2001, Graham Hill lost to Schenken after 1969, Lauda got destroyed by Prost in pace in 1985.

The actual star of this race wasnt even Alonso. Sure, he did a remarkable job going from 16th to 3rd while making Schumacher look like old news...........and already being 05 WDC. But the real star from beginning to end was Räikkönen. From 17th to 1st, passing Fisichella on the outside towards the end and him alone keeping the WCC title for McLaren alive all on his own was simply majestic. Especially under all the pressure, he literally had to be "The Iceman". Prime Räikkönen was probably the fastest driver in the world.................changed to Ferrari (over Alonso, let that sink in) and was a WDC in its first year. Many people today only know Räikkönen for what he says in the radio and interviews but people forget that he was an top GOAT. ......................but then Ferrari happened, screwing him every chance they got (after Jean Todt) and there is that. But one thing he proved is that he still got it in his short time with Lotus. He literally returned to F1, went to Lotus and imediately turned a mid-tier team (at best) into a WCC contender. He won races and made passes in that car that often baffled others.
Kimi retired at the end of 2021... now is 2024 and I'm still a fan of him! I've been a fan of him since 2003 and these McLaren years are filled with both nice and sad memories! Mainly sad memories cuz the McLaren back then was more fragile than it was fast... And it was BLAZING FAST in the hands of Kimi!
Whenever he does these videos it reminds me of how badass the cars looked without the halo, we should never go back and I love the halo for what it is but it’s almost like watching old hockey game where the guys didn’t wear helmets
One shot qualifying was terribile television but it definitely did its job in mixing up the grid. If we’re going to keep sprint races I think we should bring back one shot qualifying to determine the starting positions for the sprint.
Josh is right here, add to the fact Kimi made up that time in the last stint where both guys had the same tyre life, same fuel load. It was just absolute display of flat out racing ever seen in f1. We don't get to see such racing anymore. There was no drs either. There was no artificial tyre offset. One of the best races ever F1 has produced.
Whole Finland was standing on a string that was on both end on fire above a canyon that had sharpend spikes below at Nurnburgring race with that flatspot waiting for the tyre to fail...well the tyre could take it but Kimi's back and the suspension arm could not.

The problem is, with it becoming a frequent occurrence, F1 teams got round this by conserving the rubber, minimising the amount of stops as they could, to overall finish races more quickly
@@SiVlog1989 yea.....I mean if we have like unpredictable performance crossover points between tire compounds and strategies..... like in 2012 with Pirelli....that would be lit
@corpsecoder_nw6746 although conserving rubber on the tyres has always been a thing in motorsport to some degree, it became much more noticeable with the switch to Pirelli, when the powers that be tried to gimmick their way to more exciting races.
Thanks for guaranteeing a great race tomorrow, Josh.
I watched this race live, with my teammates of my FSAE team, a dozen of us yelled at like 3 am or something when Kimi took the lead....something I'll forever remember...
That editing on the race start was pretty nicely done Josh 👌🏽
Prime Kimi and Alonso were absolute monsters! Kimi drove the wheels off that Mclaren, and both of them doubled the points of their teammates!
That music drop on the overtake, greater editing!
4:15 Ralf casually breaking the Sound barrier
The only one who noticed wit u😂
It's criminal that f1 or any other large racing body hasn't picked this guy up! Keep up the good work, huge fan!
Japan 2005 is still holds as the best race in decades tbh. That shit was madness and pure racing
A racoon on angel dust!! Yep, that's HIM!!! To this day... 🤣🤣🤣
You never fail to crack me up, Josh. Cheers, mate.
Now to watch that highlights again
Alonsos overtake on Schumacher is epic man 😅.
Just watched the race highlights of the grand prix from F1’s channel and deffo one of the greatest moments in F1 2000’s era
Vettel was exactly the same got his points tripled by Leclerc in 2020.
@@klockenberg2299 He sure did. Curious ain't it?
@@Starfire_Storm Drivers are humans and aren't constant. Kimi isn't the only one. Mika lost to DC convincingly in 2001, Graham Hill lost to Schenken after 1969, Lauda got destroyed by Prost in pace in 1985.
What a gem this video !
5:28 Juan Pablo Montoya vs jet dryer flashbacks
these are the best racing videos on the planet, wow
13:49 It was Trulli at Magny Cours wasn't it? Don't remember exactly what happened but somewhat positive it was at that race and Flavio was fuming against Jarno.
I guess I'm going searching for highlights on that race lol.
And at almost 44, Alonso is STILL bloody fast
So last year after your "the craziest Aussi gp ever" video we had an arguably even crazier race in Melbourne. Let's hope this trend continues :)
As one who watched the Sky Classic F1 rewatch before this today, none of this was surprising to me 😆
Here's hoping for another this weekend. 👍
Kimi became a god with this drive
Josh, when you made a video about a crazy aussie gp , we got a crazy aussie gp that week. I really hope this means we're getting a great Japanese GP.
Not just the greatest GP in Japan, but also one of the best GP's ever!
Kimi is a legend. This was the era of legends.
I was watching that one at Players in Chicago at about 2:30 am. When Kimi made the move that place ERUPTED! Great night!
Whenever he does these videos it reminds me of how badass the cars looked without the halo, we should never go back and I love the halo for what it is but it’s almost like watching old hockey game where the guys didn’t wear helmets
The days as a kid of listening to James Allen and Brundle with that V10/V8 soundtrack will be unmatched
reading up on weird aughts quali formats really making me appreciate how good Q1/Q2/Q3 actually is lol
THATS WHY HE'S THE GOAT. THE GOAAAAAAAT.
Fernando and Kimi Deserved More Championships
2005 was such a fun year. Kimi vs Alonso in a battle of 'very good and reliable car' vs 'spaceship glass cannon car'.
Prime Kimi was a demon! I miss those cars, the sound.
this is the greatest f1 race ever!
Alonso was good in 05 but Kimi was godlike
Kimi's a legend 'The Iceman'
21 Gun Salute
i think i know what kimi would say if he EVER sees this video:
BWOAH
One shot qualifying was terribile television but it definitely did its job in mixing up the grid. If we’re going to keep sprint races I think we should bring back one shot qualifying to determine the starting positions for the sprint.
2005 felt like a dream after 5 years of Ferrari and Schumacher
Josh is right here, add to the fact Kimi made up that time in the last stint where both guys had the same tyre life, same fuel load. It was just absolute display of flat out racing ever seen in f1. We don't get to see such racing anymore. There was no drs either. There was no artificial tyre offset. One of the best races ever F1 has produced.
I wish we could see racing like this now...
Feels illegal to be this early.
Alonso Da GOAT.
Kimi V1.0 was phenomenal to watch.
The rule change in 2005 fucked over Ferrari massively… The Michelins had a massive advantage 🙄
"...and Montoya's ego were scraped off the track" ha ha haaa!
The whole race is here on UA-cam.
this is still my favorite race of all time
Rain always make it fun
Put Max in the back of the grid, to see what happens! 😂😂
20th to 2nd in 2021 Russia, full rain.
Lord of the eyebrows 😂😂😂
Whole Finland was standing on a string that was on both end on fire above a canyon that had sharpend spikes below at Nurnburgring race with that flatspot waiting for the tyre to fail...well the tyre could take it but Kimi's back and the suspension arm could not.
