    Yeah, that's exactly how we all felt as soon as the true version of Close in the Distance kicked in.

    I think my favorite thing for long-time fans watching is we see the thumbnail and we know EXACTLY what you weren't ready for.

    It's ok, Jay. The emotions you feel, the tears you shed. It's not just the characters in game that grow. Playing this game has taught many things. When I lost my sister last august and when I lost my dog, Honey, back in Feburary. I used the words and the beliefs that I learned from this GAME. To live is to suffer. The strong will take that suffering, and learn, and become more than they were yesterday. You must see the truth of your life. Despite that truth, or because of it, we must... forge ahead. Those that do not are quickly caught by death. First their mind, then their heart, and finally the body. Anything can be a learning tool, including a video game. The final fantasies I've played over the years all have taught me something. Maybe even more than I learned from my own parents.

      "...there may come a day when you forget the faces and voices of those you have met along the way. On that day, I bid you remember this... That no matter how far your journey may take you, you stand where you stand by virtue of the road you walked to get there. For in times of hardship, when you fear you cannot go on... The joy you have known, the pain you have felt, the prayers you have whispered and answered-they shall ever be your strength and your comfort."

    When G'raha was taken, that was when I broke. I broke into ugly crying... I had to stop for a solid 10 minuets because I could NOT stop crying. Then the Twins happened, and then the walk and I just.. I was a mess. I love endlwaker, but god I was a mess at the end of it.

    • @aerieleah533
      @aerieleah533 Рік тому +7

      I was a mess for most of Ultima Thule too. Cried for G'raha. Cried when Close the Distance played and Alisae's reaction. Cried talking to the twins when scouting. Cried when the twins went. Cried violently during the walk. Cried at so many points in that final cutscene. What a masterful game that it hit my feels so hard so often.
      And to be clear, I never thought they were gone forever. It was not having their support in the now and their words. Their determination and willingness to give themselves that hit me so hard.

      @@aerieleah533 Same. I remember almost yelling through my tears at the twins just like 'No, no no no no. NOT YOU TWO. I REFUSE.' I'm so glad we even got that option to just tell them No.. and they do their usual tomfoolery and do it anyway. ;n;

      Same here. G'raha completely broke me there. The promises, then the song as I stared at that crystal-covered eye... It was really hard for me to go through that entire region. To this day I don't enjoy going there, it just feels... So depressing. It hit a bit too close to home.
      Yet, I ventured forth. My gods it was hard, but I'm proud I did finish it. AND HOLY CRAP THE WOL NEEDS A GOSH DARN VACATION

    I tell you, there was nothing, NOTHING like patch week 6.0 coming off the launch trailer, hearing the song slowly build and build as we lose our friends, and then finally from losing g'raha, who without his efforts nothing in ShB through EW would've been possible, we get the full song
    We get the full song and it does not disappoint

    THIS is why FFXIV is the best MMO on the market. It's not the solid gameplay mechanics. It's not the robust character customization. It's--shockingly--not even the devs, who pour their hearts into their work and keep their ears open to constructive criticism.
    It's the story. The belief that individual action can change the world for the better. That the ties that bind you to friends and family can have you smiling in the face of despair. That, though we are an insignificant speck of dust floating through the empty black of the cosmos, we can fill our tiny sphere with love, with light, with art and kindness and hope. And the deepest truth of all...that with nihilism comes freedom.
    We don't matter. But in the absence of meaning, we are given the freedom to create our own. If ours is the only voice in the choir, we will sing. Tears in our eyes and hope in our hearts. And long after we're gone, our echoes will fill the void.

      Ironically Zenos had almost that wisdom to extoll

    • @Reycied
      @Reycied Рік тому +5

      @@keithfilibeck2390 Zenos had a lot of things wrong with him--not least a worldview corrupted by anhedonia and a 'me first' mentality--but at his core, he understood what it means to live. He found joy where he could, and in the end he took the tiniest, halting step toward understanding other people. Toward empathy.
      There is a quote apocryphally attributed to the late Charles Bukowski that goes thus: "Find what you love, and let it kill you". And Zenos did exactly that.

    G'raha's part gets me every time... even back in 5.3 as well as the CT ending... every time he leaves, it hurts.
    Plus, the fact that Close In The Distance is only complete after his sacrifice, the lyrics coming into play after he fades away..... it makes it feel like he's the one singing the words to us, doesn't it?

    When it does, you're broken. :x Pray that it never gets easier. You still have a some humanity left in you.

    I am not a musician. I don't know what goes into making music. But I am, however, an example of the adage "Music soothes the savage beast". I can "feel" through music. I can better absorb the meaning behind scenarios in games and movies from the music. I also get hype for what is to come by the music.
    Music has always been an important part of any gaming or viewing experience for me. Its also why I never understand how people can put on Spotify over a game's music while playing. To me, its a part of that gaming session. In my eyes, not listening to a game's music while playing is like having a tremendous spread of food made by a master chef, only to douse it all with ketchup.
