    I'm a simple man. I see an AH-Fix-It video and I watch it. Happy Friday!

    I found a 2230 in the trash and it looks like the right hand power amp is not functioning (heat sink doesn’t warm up either). Preamp output is fine. Will clean power switch. Fuses inside unit all have continuity. I suspect output transistors but I don’t have means to test them. Will just replace them as couldn’t hurt and proceed from there. Your video is very thorough and well explained. Appreciate the step by step walk through of the circuit.

      I have a 2230 that I bought in 2013 and it's been an awesome unit. I just now had a power amp issue, which brought me to this vid. Good luck with your repair, it's worth fixing.

      Hey mate,
      What are using to match transistors and are you applying any thermal grease between them? Thanks!

    I realize this is older an may not get viewed quickly, what is the operational difference of the KW vs KA (power vs audio) series of capacitors? If the same spec, what if I use all KA's when replacing the electrolytics?

    As general principle, do you change transistors and resistors if they are working?

    • @AHFixIt
      @AHFixIt  3 роки тому +3

      Transistors sometimes yes, resistors no. Resistors rarely fail, and if they do, it was probably due to the failure of something else....like a transistor! I always replace the little TO-92 size transistors since most old ones are known to get noisy or fail. Anything bigger than that, it depends. On tuner boards I only change the capacitors since the transistors there rarely fail.

    It's so informative and pleasant watching your demonstration and repairing. I have never seen you talk about Marantz 1130. I have one, it's working but the power indicator flies all the way up to the end over the red lines. And also left side speakers outlets are hamming. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks
    Aziz

    Very impressive video. Great work. Minor constructive criticism. Please get a plastic or ceramic adjustment tool. They're cheap, and you just should. Haha. Be well.

    Can you do a fix on the p700 preamp board?!? I'm thinking about taking a whack at it but I'd love to watch you do it first lol. Love you videos and knowledge. Thankyou

      Here's my video that might help: ua-cam.com/video/bjVJCFh_phM/v-deo.html on the 2250B they call it PE01 for the preamp board.

      Check out my other video where I measure the power! ua-cam.com/video/M_ohXEKIwW8/v-deo.html I will be measuring it again when the restoration is done for comparison.

    Just Bought the 2218 Cap Rebuild kit. I am sure it will take me way more time than your Videos! I Love my old Marantz 2218, it's actually easier then a1500 piece Jigsaw puzzle. I just need steady hands!

    I see you got the JIS screwdriver (though your text overlay called it a philips). You might call this screwdriver out as a JIS in one of your videos so viewers will get a heads up that there is a difference.

    From what I know, the power transistors must be sourced for used or dwindling new old stock. Some guys but "For Parts" units just for hard to find items such as this to keep in stock just for restorations.

    You wear googles and say safety is important and at the same time are wearing a metal ring on your finger. I like your videos but would be curious if you have any formal training in electronics. You seem to know enough to get the job done yet it doesn't appear you have nearly the experience or training compared to somebody like xraytonyb. Not criticizing you at all. I'm a bench technician myself and I do enjoy watching these since I'm also an audiophile. I definitely learn from these.
