Another great reaction. Johnny Nash's "I can See Clearly Now" is one of my all time favorites and Grace re-invented it.....such a great song. They intended to get permission from Johnny Nash to put it on the album but the hurricane caused them to delay.
This is the best reaction and explanation of this re-write of a classic song from 1972 I've watched yet (watched all) To say she received a lot of hate from people who know the original Johnny Nash or Cliff (90's)version would be a understatement, saying she stole , copied or out right ripped off the song , But they had no idea that it was someone else's project , professional songwriters who were experiencing writers block or something lol and they asked 13 yr old Grace for help, (she wrote the bridge) she didn't even want to do the song until she sang the new RE-WRITTEN version and then she asked to release it because she loved the message in the song that each different listener could get from listening to it
This song is a song that members of AA have mentioned has helped them in their recovery (original song was apparently a song that AA uses or used during AA meetings) My favourite line and one that has alot of meaning to me and helped at a lowpoint in my life(became disabled unable to work ) " I will accept all things i cannot Change " and once I accepted the fact that I couldn't change my injuries , I was able to move on from the depression that consumed me , and my life goes on and we adapted .Artists like Grace Vanderwaal make life better , simply by sharing their talents with the world
I completely am gobsmacked that this girl is not a worldwide superstar with millions and millions of fans. Maybe someday, but she was absolutely born to write and sing music. As an older fan I find it humourous all the bad comments she gets from fans of other female pop singers. Ariana, Melanie Martinez, Selina, Billy Eilish and more are true blue fans of their favorite singer and it's almost like Grace's style is a threat to them. It's not a unheard of threat though, The Beatles sudden arrival knocked a lot of singers off the radio and according to a Doc I saw once almost took down Motown. Instead of recognizing the uniqueness of Grace these kids lash out at her and I question whether they even listened to the song they're commenting on. I somehow feel Grace is going to have a career like Joni Mitchell, a great singer songwriter but during her early years of great songs male singers got all the attention

Her producer and a couple of writers were doing a rewrite but needed help so of course they asked 13 year old Grace. She wrote that soaring bridge that is the highlight of this song.
Most people thought this was a cover. I played Nash's song when it came out and you are the only reactor, I've heard, that knew the difference. It's graces interpretations and melodic choices that make her special. Even though she only wrote the bridge she made it hers.
Compare the lyrics of the two songs, they are so different. To me "Clearly" is a much deeper song. There are 20 plus new lines in this song. Including Grace and Johnny Nash there are 6 people who had their hands in this song. They used 2 main lines from Johnny's song and he had no part in the writing of this song. The real funny thing is that the writers that were working on this song hit a wall and called Grace to help them with finishing the song. Yes, professionals called a 14 year old to help them. Yet again, a truly excellent reaction. After Frank Warner, anything I say will sound mundane. But I will try fearlessly anyway. This song came about as Grace's producer Ido and a few of his friends were trying to re-imagine Johnny Nash's song but were stuck. They asked for her help, so she wrote the bridge. She commented that she liked the new version because it brought a darker contrast within the song compared to the original. At first she wasn't sure she wanted to record it, (she thought it was very difficult to sing) but agreed in the end. She has sung it live many times, but the best live version IMO was on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert ua-cam.com/video/nJ9awW8vwIU/v-deo.html in April 2014 when she was only 14. For an old music lover as well as kid lover (retired educator) I really appreciate your depth as you react to her music. I also, last year, realized that as an old music lover (all the way back before the Beatles) Grace is my all time favorite singer/songwriter/performer. Story behind the remake of this song was interesting. Grace’s producer friend Ido asked her to him and a few other lyricists with the rewrite of this song. Grace wrote the bridge and cut the demo. She didn’t make for herself. But after listening to the demo they decided to use Grace on the song and Grace agreed because she thought the concept of using darker lyrics for the song would be a cool concept. Other than “ I can see clearly now” part the rest is a rewrite. Already used in the animated movie Next Generation on Netflix. It was the closing song. 🤘🏻

You should react to Grace singing (covering) “River” by Leon Bridges on MTV Artist To Watch when she was 13. Man that is a song most people wouldn’t try to do. I suggest you listen to Leon’s version first if you don’t already know it.
You definitely get her and the thing is the more she sang this live the better she got. There is a video you should check out on your own that her father videoed with his phone while she did a walk on for a special concert day for I do believe was under privilege kids. You may recognize the band she joined on stage, OAR, she added a little more to the song that day and it shocked her followers. I'm sure you've gotten all sorts of suggestions as to which Grace song to react to next but I strongly recommend I Don't Like You, a high energy song Grace wrote about someone she loves and can't leave but can't stand to be around. Grace co-directed the music video as well. No end to this girl's talent. Not sure if you're aware but she got the lead in the movie Stargirl, despite never having acted before. I don't know if you've seen her singing live or being interviewed but to say she has charisma, charm, a magnetic personality can't quite sum up the effect she has on people. Actually, all of Letters vol. one is a remarkable artistic achievement for anyone, much less a 15 year old. Grace said she'd written about 40 songs but trashed most of them because they weren't "album worthy". Her artistic integrity is astonishing and it explains why there are no bad or mediocre songs on her albums.

The entire choir consisted of overdubbing many voice recordings of Grace and her producer ido Zmishlany . Grace explained, in an interview, that she had actually sang some of the voices off key to give it a more natural effect. She's one brilliant kid.

Slightly detuned voices in a chorus give it fullness and body. Cool she did that because you have to detune it just the right amount or it sounds muddy.

Dong after song is different and like no one else's...such creativity I have never seen.
Her producer and a couple of writers were doing a rewrite but needed help so of course they asked 13 year old Grace. She wrote that soaring bridge that is the highlight of this song.
Most people thought this was a cover. I played Nash's song when it came out and you are the only reactor, I've heard, that knew the difference. It's graces interpretations and melodic choices that make her special. Even though she only wrote the bridge she made it hers.

Compare the lyrics of the two songs, they are so different. To me "Clearly" is a much deeper song. There are 20 plus new lines in this song. Including Grace and Johnny Nash there are 6 people who had their hands in this song. They used 2 main lines from Johnny's song and he had no part in the writing of this song.
The real funny thing is that the writers that were working on this song hit a wall and called Grace to help them with finishing the song. Yes, professionals called a 14 year old to help them. Grace said that she wrote the bridge of the song.

Yet again, a truly excellent reaction. After Frank Warner, anything I say will sound mundane. But I will try fearlessly anyway. This song came about as Grace's producer Ido and a few of his friends were trying to re-imagine Johnny Nash's song but were stuck. They asked for her help, so she wrote the bridge. She commented that she liked the new version because it brought a darker contrast within the song compared to the original. At first she wasn't sure she wanted to record it, (she thought it was very difficult to sing) but agreed in the end. She has sung it live many times, but the best live version IMO was on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert ua-cam.com/video/nJ9awW8vwIU/v-deo.html in April 2014 when she was only 14. For an old music lover as well as kid lover (retired educator) I really appreciate your depth as you react to her music. I also, last year, realized that as an old music lover (all the way back before the Beatles) Grace is my all time favorite singer/songwriter/performer. Story behind the remake of this song was interesting. Grace’s producer friend Ido asked her to him and a few other lyricists with the rewrite of this song. Grace wrote the bridge and cut the demo. She didn’t make for herself. But after listening to the demo they decided to use Grace on the song and Grace agreed because she thought the concept of using darker lyrics for the song would be a cool concept. Other than “ I can see clearly now” part the rest is a rewrite. Already used in the animated movie Next Generation on Netflix. It was the closing song. 🤘🏻

I'm sure you've gotten all sorts of suggestions as to which Grace song to react to next but I strongly recommend I Don't Like You, a high energy song Grace wrote about someone she loves and can't leave but can't stand to be around. Grace co-directed the music video as well. No end to this girl's talent. Not sure if you're aware but she got the lead in the movie Stargirl, despite never having acted before. I don't know if you've seen her singing live or being interviewed but to say she has charisma, charm, a magnetic personality can't quite sum up the effect she has on people. Great reaction and analysis.

Actually, all of Letters vol. one is a remarkable artistic achievement for anyone, much less a 15 year old. Grace said she'd written about 40 songs but trashed most of them because they weren't "album worthy". Her artistic integrity is astonishing and it explains why there are no bad or mediocre songs on her albums.

Slightly detuned voices in a chorus give it fullness and body. Cool she did that because you have to detune it just the right amount or it sounds muddy.
