You can't eliminate E.Coli or other contaminants by sanitation alone. Yes, sanitation is critical, but these and other bacteria are present in nature and will occasionally get into food. Irradiation can dramatically reduce the danger.
As for the nutrients, the overall chemical change is minuscule - smaller breakdown than even steaming the vegetables.
Can you provide any evidence for your claims?
Back in the "natural" days people died of food illness/infectious disease constantly.

Irradiation is like laser treatment. If you use the right frequencies, no damage done. Laser can heal tissue and restore sight. However, if you use the wrong frequencies, you can cause damage to vitamins, proteins, among other things. Yes, "radiation" (which is the politicized way of saying "electromagnetic waves") can cause molecular damage, but if you know the right frequencies, radiation can provide health benefits.

why does it seem like some many people want to complain? it's just an experimental method of sanitation, even by sitting in front of the computer as you are reading this you're being exposed to these kinds of things or even worse, if thats how you want to think.

The chemical changes to the food are extremely minimal - generally minuscule. Extensive studies and experience shows that there is no negative impact on safety. Nutrient value is not generally significantly impacted - much less than cooking does
This has nothing to do with drug companies. And yes, for-profit food companies do benefit from this, because unsafe food, food recalls, lawsuits and such are bad for the bottom line.

@UIevo. What do you think happens to vegetable when you boil them? Better eat them raw if you don't want to muck with the molecules.

I would recommend growing produce to higher standards and in cleaner conditions. No need for radiation blasted all over our foods.

like DrBuzzo0 said the radiation only gets rid of natural bacteria and other other potential pathogens that are present in nature...therefore reducung the risks of getting infected.

But...if your immune system was high enough to start with, then there wouldnt be a need to irradiate such foods because the human body could easily dispell these threats.

Irradiation kills the enzymes that we need to digest the food.

Bottom line - I don't want my food nuked - Keep your e-beam, cobalt-60 sources away from my food, for the love of God! Enough is enough!

@@bunnypeople You keep your cancer and I’ll keep being healthy. Unless you are aware of all the compounds that are generated by irradiation and how harmful they could be to humans (see the fiasco regarding pets killed by Orijen irradiated pet food in Australia) you don’t know what the hell you are talking about. They can keep garbage that away from me.

Calm down folks. Think of irradiated food as a processed food. It's not fresh, but consuming irradiated vegetables is no more dangerous than eating canned, frozen or, for that matter cooked vegtables.
