As a Caviteno and heritage enthusiast who used to always visit our province's old neighborhoods, the poblacions of these towns: Kawit, Tanza, Naic, Maragondon, Malabon (General Trias) and San Roque in Cavite City have always been a sad "what if" for me. I mean, it's not new that we've always been mentioned in history books as the cradle of the revolution, but it's hard to appreciate the tales of valor and peacetime if, when you visit these towns, there is an obvious lack of care for historic sense of place especially in the poblacion areas. There's no communal drive nor government investment to help protect the structures and even the traditional, intangible culture and craftsmanship (like the irasan and the pandayan). If we were to take pride in our history then we ought to have something that's equivalent to Taal or Vigan, right? Shoud've been Kawit, with the streets between the Kawit Church and Aguinaldo Shrine flanked or peppered with old houses. But then again, no community or LGU effort to support the restorations or even the passing of ordinances or buildng codes to contribute to the preservation of the streets' historic architectural fiber.
There's still hope, though. Imus, Cavite is currently experiencing a local cultural renaissance. I daresay the poblacion has a plaza at par with the that of Pila, Laguna, with the beautiful cathedral, old city hall(s) and ancestral houses framing it. Restoration works for a lot of heritage homes are on the way. There's also some government-led activities to spark interest in local history - I remember joining a heritage photo contest hosted by the City Government some 5 years back. Other than the buildings, local recipes like lutong palaka and menudong Malagasang have made it to social media. What a time to be an Imuseno.
Okay, this comment has gone too long, LOL. Amidst all these complaints, I still love my province very much. It's just, I think we as Cavitenos need to act collectively in support of heritage preservation since, isn't it what we are marketing as the "something" that we're proud of?

@@kaUA-camro pareho po pala tayo ng sentiments, Kuya Fern. Pero, as was stated above, dalaw po kayo sa Imus to change your mind about Cavite heritage. Kahit po sa Google Maps you can see madaming restored na lumang bahay - as per experience yung mga magagandang bahay nasa may Bella Street. Coordinate po kayo sa Tourism sa City Hall (active sila!), baka payagan po kayo ng access sa lumang baluarte malapit dun sa Spanish bridge.
Lagi na Lang ako late mag comment. 😀 Feeling ko parang nakatira parin ako sa cavite. Halos araw araw ko dinadaanan eto before umuwi sangley point.

He named his historical faction just because of her = the Magdalo. Hinahakot niya ang mga tauhan upang MAGDALO sa pagsamba at pagsimba sa St Mary Magdalene Parish Church para ipagdasal ni Magdalena at ni Birheng Maria sa Diyos Ama ang pagsasarile ng ating Bansa laban sa dalawang mananakop na Spanish Colonial Government and American Government.
