Sort of confused at the release order of these vids but I see Mario 64, I see Bomb-ob Bob-omb Battlefield and most importantly, I see a NintenDeen upload so I have to watch and like 💖
I appreciate it! It's going to be a stage per day basically for the rest of them. Basically: Vid 1 - Intro/Nostalgia Vid 2 - Hub World 15ish vids for all the stages (a couple of them are probably going to get combined if they're shorter) And then 1 or 2 videos on miscellaneous stuff like secret stars, Bowser fights, controls and conclusions and whatnot.
I never understood the complaint that you go back to the hub world after obtaining a star. Certain stars need certain things set up a certain way. Like Koopa the Quick wouldn't appear if you didn't get send back and have to re-enter to select that star
7:49 "Whether you like it or not". Damn, that's so true. I kinda like exploring, but every regular and Bowser stage had these red coins and I got kinda tired of them eventually. They're not my favorite stars. 😅
Whomp's Fortress has peak "first level" vibes, but this stage's lack of death pits is almost certainly an intentional decision to make this easier than that one, which was likely designed earlier in development. The first level of a game is usually one of the last designed, in professional games (a lot of us indies try to build a game in the order we'd play through it).
Things I would like to say about BBB: *I think its weird in a level where Mario can defeat Bob-Ombs and their king, there are friendly pink bob-ombs that help Mario. *I never understand the point of the water balls that are shooted to the player, they always feel random for me *I always get fascinated by the teleport areas in the stage like the holes in the mountain and the flower patch *I wondered why Koopa the Quick can climb the water wall near the mountain but Mario can't. I never tried to see if with the Koopa Shell he can climb the wall. * Climbing the slope of the mountain was frustrating to me when I was younger, as Mario slipped down easily
@@NintenDeen Yeah, its very random why they decided to add those water bombs. Also, I mispelled in my 4th point, I mean Koopa the Quick climb the white wall when he does the race
I can make the water make sense. These are bombs, and getting wet would defuse their only means of attack. Im thinking it would be like an alien wondering why we keep shooting for the head when their brain is in their knees. To us, it makes perfecr sense
I assume you're referring to their gameplay purpose in regards to the water bombs - they're meant to act as a hazard you're forced to maneuver around that can't be dispatched with a simple punch (I mean, you can _try,_ but it won't end well :P)
I mean the pink bob-ombs are the ones at war with King Bob-omb that's WHY It's a battlefield They say as much Honestly the weird part is that there are only 2 of them I think they were losing the war and got displaced to other worlds before Mario showed up
Basically haha. It's too long of a script to release in a single video, so I'm just releasing it as I complete it. I'm not sure if I'll compile it since that would probably be around 4 hours. Maybe I'll release it as an Ultimate Retrospective or something lol
On the topic of stars sending you back to the hub each time, my impression was always that they did that to make getting a star more dramatic, and to allow the level to change. Some of the stages change depending on what star you've selected, or if you've gotten one at all. I'm sure you'll cover those in the respective videos(I'm binging the playlist), but a good example here is Koopa the Quick. If you've got Star 1 selected, he'll never spawn, so once you beat the King, the game needs to remove him from the level and add Koopa. I imagine hardware limitations made it harder to change on the fly as opposed to just loading in an alternate state of the level. I think it's worth noting that the only two levels in the game with actual sublevels in them(The Pyramid and Volcano, not counting like, in the sunken ship or metal cap) don't allow for travel backwards. Once you enter the Volcano, you're stuck there, so having the star boot you back to the Hub is a matter of convenience, esp when it's just a standard thing across the game. I imagine hardware limitations or something in regards to not being able to go back to the original level area from sublevels might be a thing, but I don't know a lot about that. Great videos so far, enjoying the deep dive series.
@@NintenDeen Mario Maker has voice acting when placing the Lakitu's cloud, giving the definitive pronunciation. There is nothing to debate about how to say it, it has already been 100% confirmed.
It's a great first level. It's easy, big, and full of a lot of different things for the player to experiment with in a relatively safe space before the game expects you to do similar things with higher stakes.
As in why it didn't carry over between lives? My guess is they thought it would be too easy. The challenge isn't 100 coins it's 100 coins in a single life I suppose
What I loved about Super Mario 64 is that there was no long-term and annoying gimmick. You had you and the platforming, you weren't railroaded into the stars like Galaxy and Sunshine. There was no waterhose backpack or dumb and confusing gravity mechanics. No unnecessary hat possession mechanics. I really think it would be a return to form if they dropped all the complicated stuff and returned to SM64 style mechanics and concepts. That and maybe start using texture disks again lmao
0:16 Well, technically the way you/the other portion of English speakers say it isn't fully correct either. You should pronounce the a like [a], not [ɑ]. And of course the r should technically be a rolling one, but you get the point. How you say it, is how Peach says it in her dialogue, so your pronunciation is probably the most faithful one that's possible while staying within the English phonology. 😄 As for Bob-omb, I had to listen a couple of times before I heard the difference between the two ways you pronounced Bob-omb (the first vowel being a schwa vs. being an [ɑ] - or at least I think that's it). But that's more to do with me. I'm no native English speaker so I may miss details that sound similar to me. :)
The way Peach pronounces it in this game, the way Luigi pronounces it in later games, the way both brothers pronounce it in earlier spinoff titles, the animated series, and the movie, the way most Americans with that name pronounce it whether of Italian or Spanish or even (rarely) French heritage. Definitely the manner of pronouncing it with a long A still sticks out in comparison. If a Romance wanted it pronounced Mary-O he'd spell it Merrio, then Anglophones would pronounce _that_ spelling "murrio" and we'd be having a similar conversation regardless.
Now I'm gonna just say this, but I think the whole reason why people hate the fact that Mario mario 64 Mario sunshine, Mario Galaxy and Mario Galaxy 2 Kicked you out of the stage, is the fact that in Mario 64, there was a star, particularly the 100 coin star that did not kick you out of the stage, and I tink in their minds they're like well if one of these stars won't kick you out of the stage, why does the others? It doesn't bother me. Especially when with a lot of those stages sunshine dose this this the most. Something changes when they kick you out of the stage like a route or something has been added to give you more traversal options. But I think that's mainly the reason why people hated getting kicked out of the stage. It's because the 100 coin star let you stay in the stage.
As a little jimmy playing for the first time, I had a wow! moment after jumping through this painting for the first time. It think it might only feel underwhelming now after playing the game so much :p
i couldn't figure out how to get past king bob-omb as a kid. after throwing him off once i was just like "that doesn't work" and spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to figure out how to win

King Bob-omb is a hypocrite. He’s perfectly fine with tossing you off the mountain, but not if you do the same to him
😂😂
"How dare you throw the KING out of the ring?"
Yeah, I feel like that's almost his entire personality and quite intentional.
