I bought one last year and love it. One additional plus (and an answer to another comment below). I have an unusual body type (short and hefty) and I called them and talked to the owner. He asked me for specific body measurements and they custom sewed my size for no extra cost. Great customer service!
I don't understand people who live in a four season climate and aren't prepared to recreate in all four seasons. I don't expect people to be snowshoe or ski experts, but they shouldn't be afraid to get outside for a full third of the year. I know a lot of fair weather hikers who basically pack it in for the winter months
I've had one for about five years now. Very accurate assessment. I have probably the opposite problem of you in that I've added weight since I bought it, but as you point out it's pretty roomy. I SHOULD lose the weight. As you said, the price point makes you pause from just running out to pick up a larger size if you've packed a little on around the middle
What a great review. A really nice piece of gear for winter camping. Would really like one but have an old Johnson Woolen Mills hunting jacket I bought 30 years ago and still going strong. Like you say thou quality is hard to beat. Take care and stay warm, Al
I have had mine for just under six years. It’s superbly made. And the customer service is also very good. As another poster commented they will see it to fit your body type. That was invaluable for me since I am short and chunky.
Great review. I don't have one, but I'm aware of the price. I've seen several knock-off/scam ads on facebook and instagram using Lester's photos/videos advertising 'closeouts' for ~$40. I report those immediately.
Well, of course you’re warm with it on. You’ve got multiple layers on underneath including 2 down jackets and another wool sweater plus a base layer. And on your head you’ve got multiple hats on your head. Who wouldn’t be warm?! I wanna know if it keeps me warm with at most 2 layers underneath, like maybe a t-shirt and a sweater for let’s say 20s or the teens (Fahrenheit). Anyway, thanks for your video. It’s good to know there are other options than the WeatherWool anoraks, which are twice the price of these.
Yep the price and weight makes me hesitant. But if I was a serious winter camper I would order one. But only doing day hikes I don’t need it… I keep telling myself.
i like this jacket...my only wish that it had...a way to cinch the waist without using a belt or something...it would be cool if they could add cord to the waist like the hem has...they could have the ends come out in the kangaroo pocket and wouldnt be seen
To be honest, after you showed the stitching and the various hidden features and quality of construction, they probably don’t make much money on those. The materials are probably not much but paying an American skilled enough to sew that is $$$. Weatherwool brand is more than twice that I think! I have my $30 surplus Eastern European wool coat, weighs 6 pounds, no hood but otherwise an amazing piece of gear.
I hear people justifying spending $400 to $1000 on these, and I'm very concerned most have just lost their mind. I bought a polar fleece super thick, heavy duty one ""Anorak"" for $150, and I knew that was a lot. I can go to the army navy store and get a Navy peacoat for $100 everyday of the week. Military issue is 100% wool. There is no way on earth you're going to convince me , that your shirt is heavier than a military peacoat. I have several 100 % wool coats including a ""Capote "" and all of them are heavier than that anorak. So if you got the money to burn and just want to look cool. Go for it. Me I just as soon wear my old fashion coats. "" The Wandering Parson on Itsy"", also makes them and he is cheaper, and hand makes his too. Sorry you live in such a cold place. Here in Va., we have cold winters as well. But not -24 usually. Peace.
I have an Arcturus wool anorak. I got mine used for $100 and that’s about what it’s worth. The cuts and where the eyelets are, sleeves, everything seems a little off. I just put an order in for the Lester. You get what you pay for.

Wow!! That’s legit!
What a remarkable piece of clothing. I really the tenacious spirit of pursing outdoor adventures in sub zero temperatures.

@@tc556guy I get what your saying. With clothing line this and a warm winter set up, it is definitely possible.
I just finished sewing my own, and it turned out amazing! Stops the wind and is so warm! I can't wait to get out snowshoeing with it.

No doubt they are a great piece of equipment. I made one myself and the price tag reflects the labor involved.

I've had mine about 5yrs now it's my favorite cold weather garment for sure!!😁✌️💚

great video! i ordered something similar for work. glad to see you fellows out there in the cold having fun

I’d add that the price won’t go down by waiting. I just looked at my receipt for the 100% wool version, purchased back in April 2015. $250.
Great overview. Very well worth it in my opinion. Especially in our climate. Cheers.
That is a great looking jacket. Amazing warmth! Great video. Crow
Thanks Crow. Be well!
Some cozy layers, but on a strenuous hike I would call that a walking sauna. At least the outer layer would off-gas.
Maybe next year. These are sweet. I hope I get to touch one this year.
Very nice cold weather hoodie.
Yep the price and weight makes me hesitant. But if I was a serious winter camper I would order one. But only doing day hikes I don’t need it… I keep telling myself.
I just ordered one yesterday 😄, I have wanted one for like 6yrs
Great review, thanks
Great review! Pricey but sounds like it does the job in frigid conditions.

I thought the same thing, wouldn’t take much
Now we are in Fahrenheit Country. I am from Celsius Country. We also have Kelvin. 😅

I think the owner does all the labor. Small shop in a garage.
What do you do about your legs and feet? Thanks for the video!
I recognize his boots, which are Steger Mullins made in Ely, MN.
Nice. All your layers did not look tight. What were the sizes of your layers if you only ended up with an XL for the Boreal?
Layers underneath are xl. I have long arms and need the sleeve length.
It's funny how this coat is kinda your "look". You wear it in a lot of your videos.
cant beat NZ Swanddri wool bush shirts been making them for over 100yrs and are water resistant
I’m a larger person. 6’3” 280+ Do you think the 2XL would fit?
Yes. They run big.
@@MidwestBackpacker I have his page bookmarked for years. I’m ready to pull the trigger, but he doesn’t have 2XL right now.
Take a look at weather wool too. You can try before you buy too!
How is it waterproof?
Highly water resistant, but no.
I agree. I’ve had an Anorak made from an Italian Army blanket for about seven years.

yes but it costs way way too much! better values available at Arcturus

It's Inuit , Eskimo is a term they got rid of years ago.
Actually the Chinese ones as well as lester river bushcraft use another more expensive brands anorak pictures and also copy their design.
The original brand is called WeatherWool.
