Just played The order 1886 that's been stewing in my backlog for ages now and wow what a underrated gem it was. I'll be sure to play things I've been putting off in a couple months.
The key to, if not getting through a backlog (an impossible task) then at least ensuring it doesn't balloon out of all proportion, is finishing games you start. You don't have to finish something you're not enjoying of course (we only live so long), but if you would like to see the end credits of a game you are enjoying, then don't let yourself get so easily distracted by new releases all the time like a magpie in a cutlery factory! A nice bonus to this sensible strategy anyone with any self-respect should employ is not paying so much for new games either, saving considerable dosh in the process, as you don't feel compelled to play every new release as soon as it comes out - only a select few 'must-plays' per year. Get ahold of your consumerist habits, or they will inevitably get ahold of you, like a rat looking for the next pellet to drop in the trap! Just tell yourself - I'm going to be better than a rat would be.
I find it's ok to get "distracted" a bit, then cycle back to the previous game once the new one is done or loses your interest, then cycle back to that new game once the previous one is done etc. That's a decent way to actually finish the games you really enjoy without turning it into work, and gives you variety in what you're playing. Not worrying too much about new releases helps too of course. But "just finish what you start" every time is unrealistic for a lot of people and what they find fun. In my hobbies I'm allowed to be irresponsible you know? Within reason/finances.
I used to have an large backlog. Then i wanted to challenge me myself and cleared it out. By playing no more then 2 games Max at the same time and not buying new games. It took me like a year and a half more less but i did it. My gaming experience was an n64 at my father company and the GameCube at home. I used to get games in my birthday and christmas always, so i had an decent collection during childhood. When the company of my father closed the originel owner of the n64 knew how much i played it so he gifted it to me plus all his games back in the day. I still have the gamecube and n64 23+ years later and most of my games, everything still works and i play it from time to time

I still have my ff7 saves from 1997. when the fat ps3 came out I transferred my memory card data over to the ps3 , then from the ps3 I transferred that data over to the microdisc that came for the ps vita. I then got FF7 (digital) for the vita. So I can play my original saves from the memory card to the PS1 and PS vita if I ever decide to charge it lol. Also, did this for Xenogears.
My backlog is a beast….but I want to see how much I can get through. The problem is I also want to 100% games and have started playing with friends again so the backlog is getting worse by the day. But I’m having fun so it’s a give and take.

I was stressing about my backlog about a year and a half ago when they announced the closure of ps3 and vita stores. So i went on a mad journey so far this year ive 100% 88 games. (No grubby plats) So my backlog is looking alot better but still ive got a bunch of ps4. I estimate around 50 more games left. Then ill be able to say ive got no more backlog.

Wow what a coincidence. I have 110 games in my backlog and right now i’m trying to finish a couple of them: Xenogears (at the final dungeon), Chrono Trigger (finishing some sidequest before fighting Lavos), Breath of Fire III (at chapter XIV), and FF VI (at Setzer ship crashed). I’m not gonna touch GoW Ragnarok until i finish those games.
@@tavorabrown3622 I reccomend you finished 10 or 12 of those 15 games before you buy a new game. Don't make mistake like me. I bought multiple games, finished 1 or 2 games, and then bought multiple games again before i finish previous ones. And now my backlog is piling up lol.
@@thepuppetmaster9284 yep that's what I'm starting to do now because ik I bought mk xl a long back ago, didn't like it, put it up for sell on eBay over the summer, and finally it got sold. My PS4 backlog is massive and threatening. I keep my ps2, ps3, ps4, and ps5 hooked up and ready to go at all times, but as Rob says, the reality is that I tend to stick to whatever my newest console is while my old, unplayed games collect dust... Still, one day, I *will* get to them! I had just begun playing Red Dead Redemption II and Frostpunk on my ps4 when I got my PS5 this past summer, and I'm hoping I can get back to them soon.
I finally have been hitting my jrpg backlog. It was intimidating due to how long the games are, but yakuza like a dragon, dragon quest 11. Kingdom hearts 2.8 + 3, and now persona 5 royal. Been a good 8 weeks of gaming so far 😁and barely started P5R. Down with backlogs!!
I’m so behind and backlogged it’s ridiculous and I have yet to play Ragnarok even though I have it and I have Callisto Protocol on pre order. I honestly try to play and beat games but I’m older now and am married with 2 small children so finding time to game is much harder than it was when I was in my late 20s and single unfortunately. I mean I still haven’t beaten Elden Ring or Cyberpunk yet lol

Im with rob in that its okay to not stress about your backlog. I finally knocked 4 games off mine this year. Finally got a ps5 so i platinumed astrobots playroom. Finally platinumed kingdom hearts 2.5 after ages if trying. Played cuphead finally. Played what remains of edith fitch. Trying to work on ffx platinum after 5 tries of beating it. Finally jeat it now the platinum is a huge undertaking. Its okay to not stress about it. Its impossible to keep up with all the games there are to play. Not enough time to play them all. And its okay.
Yeah imma have to stop buying games until Black Friday and when I finish my backlog which is 10 - 15 games. Recently I bought 4 short games, I'll be playing with others. The DPA Anthology (not the new game) and TMNT cowabunga collection. Imma try stopping there til I finish my backlog though.
I just got Ragnarok installed this morning. I've managed to avoid all spoilers so I'm looking forward to getting stuck in. You now have to get a T shirt for Rosie with "Too keen for the nuggets" on it 😁🤣
I ignored my backlog recently to replay Days Gone and get the plat, then I downloaded Ghost of Tsushima again to replay a bit and muck about in photomode 😅 now I'm taking my time with Ragnarok, everything else is ignored
My backlog seems eternal, going back to stuff I still want to play from the PS2 generation. At least I know I will have plenty to play when the consoles go all digital like they want.
I have so many games in my backlog. All Black Friday did was add 4 more games to that log. Possibly more. Looks like I'll be going back to PS+ essential because I really don't use it.
This is my problem. My backlog involves large games, since I love JRPGs and the like, where 80+ hours is the norm. It only gets worse for _Dark Souls_ style games. If you forget the muscle-memory by taking a break, it's lost... and you start again.
Most of the days of the week are from Norse mythology. Thursday is a reference to Thor and Friday is a reference to either Ferja or Friga, Tuesday comes from Tyr. Monday is the Moons day and Sunday is the Suns day and Saturday is the only day of the week in the English language that refers to a Roman God instead of a Norse one - being Saturn. The Roman Gods are more common across the rest of Europe (see: Mercredi / Mercury, Mardi / Mars, Jeudi / Jupiter in French Martedi, Mercoledi etc. in Italian) but the Norse / Germanic gods gave us our days of the week.
The adjectives in the title also describe my backside as what was once a fresh-faced toddler on the NES balances mortgages and car payments whilst closer to middle age than is comfortable.
My backlog consists of so many games at this point. Games I pre-ordered, games bought on a whim, and partially started games. DC Universe Online is a 24/7 job unfortunately.
I am with Rob. I do not have a backlog anymore. I have the game or games I am playing now and that is it. I just don't have the time to have one. If I really cared to play a game, I would. There doesn't need to be a backlog.
I already learned my mistake from the past for having over 200 barely played PS4 games. Last year I have only beaten FF17R and Jedi Fallen Order and for this year only Stray.. I recently got a PS5 and will try my best to keep my library as small as possible. PS + is also helping me keep my physical game library small.
Oh come on now stop being biased. Those two sequel duels were great. The cinematography, soundtrack, choreography and visuals of the Luke and Kylo confrontation were all amazing. And the Rey and Kylo duel in different locations was so unique and visually pleasing.
My back long control "free "from ps plus, ghost of tsushima dlc not really far into it, persona 5 strikers horizon 2 having a blast but on hold cause ragnarok came out, darksiders 3 and just remembered gravity rush 2 dlc gotta finish
My backlog still reaches back to games for the Vita and PS3 which I bought like... I think the unplayed game I bought the longest time ago was six years ago. Especially for the Vita I feel like I should hurry up a bit and get through all the games I own for it at least once. Because the console isn't getting any younger. Well, the PS3 ages too, but in that case there is still a chance to find a perfectly working old one or someone who will repair them. At least the Vita is portable so I can at least play bit by bit at the train sometimes. I thought that maybe it will help clearing my backlog if I don't buy any games for myself anymore (only exception being Pokemon games) and only get games as presents from friends and family for my birthday and for Christmas. Well, that didn't help at all either... The problem isn't just a lack of time to play new games but also that when I do have the time for gaming I often rather really, really feel like playing one of my old games again. With Mass Effect being the worst offender when it comes to that - I've seriously once played the trilogy three times in a row, with no other games played in between. I then did take a short break from it where I had the time to play a other game. However I then went right back to Mass Effect and played it a fourth time. And now I additionally have the Legendary Edition. I also played Mass Effect Andromeda three times so far - but at least not in a row.
Same here and I got a PS5 last year. A few days ago I saw two ps5 God of war Ragnarok bundles at GameStop. It took 2 yrs just to have them in store. Btw I got like 10 games in my backlog😅 and had to get TMNT cowabunga collection since it's on sale🤦♀️
Don't feel bad about not playing Hitman Absolution Rob. I finished it back in the day. Honestly it's very linear, only a few levels are kinda good cause they are more like the classic Hitman levels. This is why Hitman 2016 went over to a more classic Hitman formula, but with much bigger levels and became a much bigger success. I don't have an incessant need anymore to have to beat all my games anymore. It's more like did I feel like I got my moneys worth. In the past I used to hope to get maybe 1$ an hour per hour of entertainment. However that meant for 60$ games I would hope to get 60h in them. So even 20h games I would hope they would have great re-playability. Now I hope for more like 3.3$ an hour. So with a 60$ game I hope for 18h of entertainment. This works well for me cause if I buy a game at 10$ and only end up playing 2-3h I don't feel bad about not finishing it cause I feel like I've gotten my moneys worth.
After Ragnarok i don't know what to play. Nothing feels good enough to fill the gap... This year both Elden ring and GOWRagnarok put the standards sooo high that whatever i play after those two feels empty. I need a break lol.
Great podcast, as always. Rob, you should check out the book “American Gods” by Neil Gaiman if you have not already. There is also a tv series of the same name, based on the book, if that is more to your liking.
PS Plus Premium has made my backlog so much worse-All those Assassin's Creed, Gravity Rush Remaster and 2, Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas...The backlog game that I've recently clicked with is Prey. It has proven a good choice
My backlog is over 400 games. I just call it my game collection now. If I ever feel like playing something from it, it's there and not going anywhere. It does stop me buying a majority of games day one at least. Both dead space and hitman absolution are in it too 😂
@@tavorabrown3622 past consoles and Xbox games are included, steam, epic games launchers. But I've only included the ones I intend to play one day since epic gives games away each week, ps plus, Xbox live etc. The real number including all of those services would be ridiculous
My backlog is outrageous. I have a lot of PS3 games to play yet. I keep telling myself to not buy anymore...but then a God of War, Dead Space, Ghost of Tsushima, or a X-Com game comes out. Since I started posting gameplay to UA-cam....I find I play more games for videos then I play for myself.
My backlog is huge and I would love to finish some of them but seeing as I’ve preordered Callisto Protocol, Dead Space Remake, Dead Island 2 AND Resi 4, I don’t see me touching my backlog any time soon…. and I’m hoping none of those get added to my backlog.

Absolutely love the podcast, you guys are my favourite gaming channel.
The adjectives in the title also describe my backside as what was once a fresh-faced toddler on the NES balances mortgages and car payments whilst closer to middle age than is comfortable.
.....I'm battling a FRONTLOG at the moment! Planning games that I still haven't bought yet...
Thanks. I love this podcast so much. I'm holding on listening to tthe GoW one.... want to complete the first realm. Looking forward to it.
21:06 This man needs to insert FF7 into every conversation 😂
My backlog dates back to PS1 and since I have very little standard in what I like to play, the backlog just keeps getting longer.
The most I've ever cried from a video game is Mass Effect 3
"Someone else might have gotten it wrong"
Bad games make me cry as well
My backlog consists of so many games at this point.
I'm completely fine with talking about ragnarok still 😂 I'm at the very end now, unbelievable game
Just finished Ragnarok. Playing Hades, Ghost Recon Breakpoint and Returnal at the moment and going to play Gotham Knights at Christmas.
Oh come on now stop being biased. Those two sequel duels were great. The cinematography, soundtrack, choreography and visuals of the Luke and Kylo confrontation were all amazing. And the Rey and Kylo duel in different locations was so unique and visually pleasing.
I will put on my top Rosie's stories the "Marilyn's Robin Hood" from the pre-official podcast. Thanks.
I’m so thrilled to learn I’m not the only person in the world who hasn’t played dead space haha
I cant beat my backlog, getting a PS5 at christmas, not had a playstation since the PS2 so yeah A LOT of games in my backlog 😂
I just picked up Godfall and trying to get through that before Xmas, as I have GoW and Elden Ring coming my way :-)
man,i got 31 games in my backlog as far back as Metal Gear Solid 5. And i don't even have a Ps5 yet.
Watching Ash get all misty-eyed over the various ways a person can be hideously murdered just made my morning. :)
(Even if I still think of her as "Ash from WhatCulture". But not in a stalkery way! Er, I'll be off now...)
And a Pandorum reference, too? Perfection.
Forgot December 18th for the next gen update of the Witcher 3
After Ragnarok i don't know what to play. Nothing feels good enough to fill the gap... This year both Elden ring and GOWRagnarok put the standards sooo high that whatever i play after those two feels empty. I need a break lol.
Great podcast, as always. Rob, you should check out the book “American Gods” by Neil Gaiman if you have not already. There is also a tv series of the same name, based on the book, if that is more to your liking.
Fr, I loved it as a kid
PS Plus Premium has made my backlog so much worse-All those Assassin's Creed, Gravity Rush Remaster and 2, Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas...The backlog game that I've recently clicked with is Prey. It has proven a good choice
This pod is so damn good!
My backlog is over 400 games. I just call it my game collection now. If I ever feel like playing something from it, it's there and not going anywhere. It does stop me buying a majority of games day one at least. Both dead space and hitman absolution are in it too 😂
How you have that many games?! Is these games from a past console orrr
@@tavorabrown3622 past consoles and Xbox games are included, steam, epic games launchers. But I've only included the ones I intend to play one day since epic gives games away each week, ps plus, Xbox live etc. The real number including all of those services would be ridiculous
@@captainbatman7510 it would take me a while to get up to that many games ding. I would have to play them so I will never
@@tavorabrown3622 Haha the plan was to play them when I bought them, but I think it's a case of eyes being bigger than my stomach but with games.
@@captainbatman7510 lmao... that's how it be
My backlog is outrageous. I have a lot of PS3 games to play yet. I keep telling myself to not buy anymore...but then a God of War, Dead Space, Ghost of Tsushima, or a X-Com game comes out. Since I started posting gameplay to UA-cam....I find I play more games for videos then I play for myself.
The harmony @43:00 🤣
as I get older my backlog grows along with me. worst part is most of my backlog are guys where I am I mission away from finishing the game xp
Ash with the fire outfit 🔥
My backlog is huge and I would love to finish some of them but seeing as I’ve preordered Callisto Protocol, Dead Space Remake, Dead Island 2 AND Resi 4, I don’t see me touching my backlog any time soon…. and I’m hoping none of those get added to my backlog.
14:30 The chicken nugget box hangs at the entrance to town, as warning. 🧐😆
Oh Rob and his clogged backlog.
I wasn't 18 when GTA was released and Game and HMV wouldn't sell it to me I was gutted
So cozy
