I watch a lot of different videos. In one I saw where you can't take apples over the Canadian border. Make sure to check what you can an can not take over the border, so you don't spend money, just to throw things away.
Honestly it happened so fast I've got whiplash. No...We can't keep Trinity Ok we can keep her but She's not allowed on the furniture Ok she can be on the couch but she's not allowed on the bed Ok... Trinity, may we also sleep on the bed tonight? All in under 6 months. Her master plan has been executed perfectly. -J
@@OpenRoading Trinity (Talking to another homeless dog at a park): Humans are saps. So easy. You get this good, clean water, bathing, butt cleaning, poop scooping, clothing, petting, treats, medical care, tooth care, barking and growling privileges, free travel, sex without puppies, you are loving large. It's dog heaven before we even get to dog heaven. Park Doggo: I don't believe that. There's got to be a catch.
@@OpenRoadingI love the honesty and how fast all those house rules became less important. Valiant effort though! Happens to almost everyone, if not everyone. lol
We spent 10 days over Christmas in Moab. We stayed in a campground in town and were lucky enough to have propane there. And they didn’t overcharge. Diesel, however, was SUPER expensive in town. And our dog was barking at your dog barking at the sticker, making him a huge dork.
HAHAHA! Kalyn and I laughed out loud at this. Dogs are awesome. I didn't think I'd ever be a dog person but Trinity's master plan to bring me around keeps working. -J
It's not unusual for a dog to be in a little bit of shock after surgery and an overnight at the vet! We know she was absolutely thrilled to be back with you guys! 😀 🐕
The first video of yours that I watched was the day you met Trinity and ended up keeping her, for that reason I subscribed to your channel I'm so glad you got her taken care of and she's doing very well.
Trinity and Cody are your babies! So sweet! I’m happy Trinity is doing well post spay. I can’t imagine our life without our furbabies (2 kitties and 2 Frenchies). They make life complete! 😊🐾❤️
FYI Trinity probably wasn't too worried because she probably slept most of the time from the anesthesia. That's my story and I'm sticking to it LOL really glad she found and adopted you guys! God bless you and yours and all my brothers and sisters! 😇
She was groggy when we picked her up. Not like...drunk groggy...but I could tell she wasn't "all there." She really perked up a lot that evening. Thanks so much! God blesses us every day, in sunshine and rain! -J
"I don't like talking on the phone." That's so like me and my husband. I make him do all the calling. LOL Congrats on getting Trinity ready for Alaska. Can't wait to see your videos!
That trail looked fun with the ladders and chains, different than usual hiking trails. Every dog I have ever had has always acted like they were a little perturbed with me after any vet procedure or grooming appointment... LOL. They come around in a few hours. So glad you were able to get your paperwork needed for the border crossing. I am assuming you need one for Cody too?
Awe so glad Trinity is feeling ok after her spay.. 🐾🤗 great idea Joseph to put the coating on the trailer so the new decals won’t fade. It looks awesome!❤
You can tell how much you love Trinity! ❤ I’m also surprised they needed to keep her overnight for just a routine spay. I’m guessing it varies per clinic, but I’ve never heard of anyone having to do that before.
We are heading through Canada to Alaska in June! I called the state vet office in Alaska and as I understand it the health certificate must be no more than 30 days old.
That is indeed the letter of the law. We've spoken with some people up there who have told us they haven't ever seen an issue with one up to 90 days old. I'm not recommending you get it early. 🙂 -J
We RV traveled into Canada last summer with our cats. We crossed back and forth a couple of times. Just letting y'all know. Pet food was never brought up at the border crossing. Maybe because we have cats. Not sure, but it was very chill.
@@OpenRoadingwe’re in BC. Going into Washington we are frequently asked about food for our dog. It has to be in the original unopened bag. We have been allowed to take 1 meal in in a ziploc, but reluctantly. And you are required to have proof of rabies and health certificate, though we’ve never been asked for it. But never been asked coming back to Canada.
Make sure you properly register on the microchip site. I'm not sure how traveling will affect that but y'all know that issue already. Lots of people get their pets microchipped but never go the next step to register. Then, if the pet is found, the agency/vet can see the microchip but then there is no data or updated data on the site so no way to contact the owner.
Canadian customs is very finicky when it comes to paperwork for pets. Have all your ducks in a row ( My grandpa humor ). Also! no pistols if you own one. If you have a shotgun or rifle keep the bolts and ammunition separate no ARs at all. Of course all must be registered. Safe travels.
I always find border crossings funny. It depends on whether or not you catch the border agent on a bad day or not. lol. We've crossed in and out twice with the RV and never had anything more than getting asked 3 or 4 questions. Some day I'm sure we're gonna get the whole shakedown. We, and all our ducks, are ready for it! -J
To cross into Canada you need a rabies vaccination record for a dog. Most times they don't even ask. For rabbits I don't know. We have crossed the border many times with a dog with the only thing being that the dog food needed Tobe unopened to cross into the states.
I keep wanting to upsize my 15/20 pound propane tanks for 30 pound tanks, but the run-around you went through and being forced to only do refill spots that can be rare in areas/hours and losing the ability to just do a tank swap makes it a more difficult decision than it should be.
Yeah...it can be a pain sometimes. It's not unavoidable. There are of course devices that let you know how much propane you have left in each tank...and if you're smart you make sure to get it filled before the weekend hits if you're anywhere rural. -J
First, Such and incredible compliment - thank you. I'm sorry we won't be able to do this - and I'd like to share why if that's ok. These videos don't create themselves - a tremendous amount of effort goes into each one. Not including the time planning and shooting the videos (which varies from week to week) it takes me 20+ hours to edit each one. Meanwhile I have another client that I edit a video a week for and I'm editing Kalyn's bi-weekly videos for her channel Kalynbrooke.com. Meanwhile, Kalyn is spending her time producing content for this channel through titles, descriptions, thumbnails etc while also managing everything involved with her business Kalynbrooke.com. I know, we could hire it out - but at the moment hiring out video editing would eat up all of our youtube income if we wanted to maintain the style of editing that we do. On top of that - we still need to make sure we take time to go on a date, enjoy a fire, etc without having a camera on. UA-cam content creators burn on on the regular...and it happens because they get on a content creation wheel that never lets up. I hope that helps you understand why we only do one per week . I'm not mad that you requested it! But I did want to lend some perspective. -J
We do ship some things - but since we boondock 90% of the time and move locations often it's not always feasible. A lot of pack and ship places charge up to $10 a package to have things delivered to them as well. 👀 -J
@@OpenRoading Well your certainly entitled to your opinion. It is very difficult when you show up at one of your favorite spots and find it overrun with people, trash and the areas natural beauty destroyed . That is why areas are closed and what was once free there are now fees in some places. I wish you well hopefully you will change your mind in time and realize why it is ok to show pics just don’t disclose locations. God Bless you both and your awesome dog.

You are saying that it is my fault that other people are trashing sites. Meanwhile, every site we go to we leave it cleaner than we came. I thought it was a funny clip you went from dumping your sewer (and you had no gloves on)then a clip of you eating a sandwich. I am sure you washed your hands but it looked funny.
Wasn't intentional 😂 But in retrospect I'm sure it made some people a little queazy. 🤮 😁 Thank you for understanding that we edited down a 30 minute stop into something like 35 seconds. 😂 -J
Poor Trinity. That undiagnosed uterine infection was probably the reason she was dumped because it would have made her an unsuccessful breeder. Pyometra in dogs can be a death sentence. My cat had pyometra. Even if they appear healthy it can long term affect the kidneys. My sweetheart lived to eighteen, however. Anyway, be sure to keep an eye on her kidney function. You maybe should ask a vet about putting her on a special kidney diet food rather than regular, or how to adjust her diet to help maintain her kidneys. You are all so lucky to have each other.
Goblin Valley is a must do. I'm glad Trinity is doing well. I think it's really great how you guys just really love Trinity and she's now officially firmly your family.
Dogs are amazing thieves,no matter how hard you try they will steal your heart and then train you to go to amazing lengths for them.I love dogs especially mine who just kicked me out of MY chair
Thanks for the heads up. We've followed several other RVers who have been able to boondock a decent bit up there so we're hoping to do the same - but we've got some wiggle room for campgrounds when we need them. 🙂 -J
Glad Trin is doing well. Since she had an ovary infection she likely couldn't breed and was left, so sadly she was likely tossed out, so glad she met you guys. I grew up with dogs, had a dog my entire life until recently, I always think it is so cute to see people with their first dog it is like the first child and you guys are adorable with her. Our 16 year old passed in November and 19 year old passed in January. But our neighbors dog is always over here and is so sweet, it has been OK. Glad you are checking what you can take to Alaska with you, I would have tossed a couple bags of dog food in and not even thought about it, they never worried about that before. On a side question no one could ever tell me why we always fixed our horses before we broke them, seems like it would go the other way, lol. Stay safe and healthy.
I'm so sorry for your recent loss. 😭 We lost our other rabbit this past summer and it's so hard to have a pet that's been a staple of the family suddenly be gone. I'm glad you have a neighbor dog to come over and give you a bit of a "fur fix." Such a funny turn of phrase with the horses. I'm glad I never had to learn English as a non-english speaker. I would have been confused.... a lot. -J
@@OpenRoading I am glad Trin was able to fill a hole from your other bunny. She sure seems like a blast. I would volunteer to ride with you guys up north and babysit yours and your friends dogs, but not able to travel anyways right now. Stay safe and healthy.
The love you have for Trinity and Cody is so heartwarming ❤. Our pets are truly family. Thank you for sharing your beautiful hike ! I really enjoy watching your adventures each week. Can't wait till next week!
eeeeewww... the visual of you touching the black tank stuff with your bare hands and then the next cut you were eating a sandwich. Not a criticism... and maybe it was not what I actually saw... but it sure left that impression. Maybe just a little feedback for editing and how it can come across. And, it's kind of funny too.
We don't take ourselves super seriously 😁 so I'm leaning into the funny. It wasn't intentional - but we edit a 30 minute dump and fill down to 30 seconds so we won't show everything - and we try to make it different each time so it doesn't get boring! Very funny catch! -J
Thanks for the journey! I look forward to y'alls vids every Friday. Oh, I hate when my pets have to stay over night. I'm always a nervous wreck! Lol...

I live in Alberta and travel to Idaho. I don’t find groceries more expensive in Alberta, especially when you factor in the exchange rate on the dollar. Currently a Canadian dollar is worth 73 cents US.
If there’s two of you entering Canada, can you each bring 20 kilos (44 lbs) of pet food? Seems like it would be per traveler and not per group. Also, I was in and out of Canada with my dog last October and had no idea about the food rules. Nobody asked (3 different entry points) and I definitely didn’t comply as my dog’s food was just in a plastic bin and not sealed original packaging.
We believe it's 44lbs for the vehicle. If we crossed in separate vehicles then we could game the system. We've never had border patrol ask about anything so I'm sure people "sneak" across with more - but we're gonna play the better safe than sorry card. Although getting searched by border patrol would make fun youtube content I'm sure. 😂 -J
I worked in a veterinary clinic and I had trouble filling out the health certificates for Canada, especially for people who were going to be camping, some campgrounds don’t have an address. The other problem was they’re only good for 30 days.
We've been informed by some people from alaska that the 30 days is more of a guideline and they have never seen an issue with CVIs being as old as 90 days. We'll find out I'm sure. -J
Random Question...do you have a video of your RV reno? I am actually just wondering about the roller shades in your living room? Where did you get them?
We attempted to video the renovation but quickly discovered that learning RV life and UA-cam lIfe at the same time was not working for us. As to the roller shades: We made them.... (It was a group effort between us and our mothers actually) 😁 Here's the TLDR breakdown - Cheap vinyl shades from Lowes - Remove the vinyl - Cut fabric to size (make it a few inches longer than the window) - sew a space for the bottom rod and surge or fraycheck the cut ends - use double sided frabric tape to attache to the rollers. We doubled the fabric - which meant we also had to sew a horizontal line across the shade every couple of inches or else the fabric would bunch when you tried to roll it up. We also sprayed them with scotch guard to help prevent fading. We probably should have done that every year but it really has helped even with just the 1 application. -J
How wonderful that Trinity is now okay and all things have been done. She will recover quickly. I was a cat lady for 40 years. Married my husband ten years ago and I had three cats. He’s allergic. So he put up with them until they all cross the rainbow bridge. Then we decided to get a dog for him. I never was a dog lover and my husband was concerned. Well I’m an animal lover and Smokey has made me a dog lady! She adores me so much. You guys are the same way I was. Love it so much.
It's so good to hear that story. I kinda thought I was on an island of "not being a dog person until...." Trinity has turned that around, although I'm still not 100% convinced that I'm a dog person as opposed to a "trinity person." 🤔 -J
@@OpenRoading well we have had Smokey for almost three years and yes, I have become a dog person. Still love cats but dogs are just so loving. Loved bunnies as a child, we raised rabbits and it was so much fun playing with them. Suffice it to say I love animals. If only I could have a farm and turn it into a sanctuary for animals with no home. There are so many. Shelters are full everywhere.
Need to visit Idaho... I just started watching your channel this last month and went back on some of your older videos. You guys do a awesome job. One of my favorites... be safe.
I remember the video when you 'found' Trinity...rather when she found you! How you both were pretty sure you weren't going to keep her. She had other plans! lol
She did. We weren't going to keep her. We weren't going to let her on the couch. We weren't going to let her on the bed. At this point...I just ask her permission before I do things. 😂 -J
Vet care on the road is always concerning. Glad you got Trinity back safe and sound. Camper looks great and ready for your Alaska adventure. Safe travels.
It really is. We have a lot of concerns with Cody's health for this trip so that will always be on our mind as we travel because it's so much harder to find vets that work with exotic animals. -J
Trinity will need a few days to recover. Make sure she has a cone of shame on usually sutures come out in 7-10 days reduce activity 2-3 days after surgery and no bathes until sutures come out. Hope all goes well
SO glad Trinity is doing well. It's really hard to leave them at the vet's. I usually get to the car and cry. For the trip you could put additional pet food in cereal boxes, or snack bags, and stash it in the pantry. With all the unusual looking snacks that Kalyn eats who's to say who it's for? I suspect that bunny food looks pretty similar to healthy snacks. I'd never encourage you to become international criminals, or anything like that. Just saying..
I think you mentioned this in an episode already, but I can't remember which one, so I apologize if this is a duplicate. What software do you use to edit your videos?
Not a problem at all. With a vlog style channel it can be hard sometimes to go back and find something so specific since our thumbnails can only highlight one or two things that are in the video. Anyway - We use Wondershare filmora. I've used final cut and adobe premiere in the past but I really recommend FIlmora if you aren't already deeply familiar with editing systems. -J
9 out of 10 times, depends on the situation completely, but it is your dog, you can ask to get her back for the night… Let’s be real, 99% of vets don’t have someone there at night watching the animals.. They check them all when they leave for the day, then check em all when they get there in the AM. So, if no one’s there at night, why keep your animal in a cold cage surrounded by other scared animals. ..? Just my thoughts on the situation as a dog owner.
I felt the same way. But we didn’t want to force the issue and end up with complications that could have been avoided. But I’m with you - I doubt anyone was there overnight. 😞 -J
Another great video. I like watching these videos while I am doing my medical charting. I would be interested if food prices are really that big of a difference in Alaska as least in the major cites (Anchorage, Fairbanks). I guess we have been here so long that it at doesn't appear to be expensive. Another indication that I have been here too long it that the my wife and I don't even use window shades when we sleep. So using eye shades to sleep is very tourist
We'll be sure to let you know! 😁 I was talking to a friend and they said at the big stores in Anchorage the prices are similar to the lower 48. We just did a "stock up" run and we're making a spreadsheet so we can truly compare apples to apples. Thanks again for your awesome support of the channel. It's incredible to me that you put that value on our content every week. 🤗 -J
So all our research has pointed to 30 days BUT from people we have spoken to it is a lot more of a guideline. They've had one at 90 days and the officials had no problem with it. 🤞🏻 We are currently just under 60 days from entry to Alaska. -J
I can't believe they didnt give you a cone. I felt bad bc my dog hated it and I took it off. I guess the third day after it was so itchy my dog pulled out her stitches and her gutts started popping out - emergency trip to the Vet.
She did realllly good with her stitches thankfully. She licked at them a couple of times but that was it. I was shocked. I would have lost it if she had opened herself up! 😬😬😬😬😬 -J
I just found your channel today and have been bing watching. Trinity is such a sweetheart and I love the story of how you found each other. So glad she had a successful surgery and is back home. 🥰
I have often said that sometimes, propane is a PAIN to get filled, especially in some states. I’ve often had to drive over 90 minutes just to find a fill station. This is why I didn’t get a propane generator in my most recent RV. Good episode! Thanks for taking us along!
There's part of me that wishes instead of 2 larger containers that I had 3 of the smaller ones so I could use the exchanges....BUT.... I'm not sure how I feel about having different tanks that I'm not used to hooked up each week. I might be concerned about safety issues. -J
Of the things this channel makes me wonder there is: 1. Is there a Guiness Book 📖 of World Records that track the world 🌎 record for the number of unexpected surprises a couple discovers while RVing? 2. Are you two trying to set the 🌎 record higher? 🙄😅 😬
Haha! I'm not exactly sure what you are referring to...I know in the intro I said "We find out" twice (I think) but those sorts of things are life! If you go through a day and don't "find out" something new then life get's pretty boring. 🙂 -J
@@OpenRoading I learn many things purposely each day. So, I totally concur with both of you. It's about the challenges and the journey. The goals are aiming points more or less. It was a fun and interesting video again. Glad Trinity is well. I'm surprised Alaska is a hurdle to pets or that certification beyond rabies I've never heard before.
haha! Yes, we are aware. 😁 There are two reasons we are stocking up: 1 - Specific brands. There are certain things we don't want to switch brands for. Unfortunately pet food is one of them so we'll just have to hope that what's up there is the same. Something we are aware of is in different countries sometimes teriffs and laws mean a brand product that looks the same isn't actually the same (chocolate for instance - A reese in Canada isn't the same as a reese's in the states because Canada has specific chocolate import laws that the US does not.) 2 - Cost. I understand we have to calculate for the exchange rate - but as we travel we will be spending most of our time in rural areas...rural almost always means more expensive. We run a pretty tight budget so we try to save where we can. 🙂 -J
Most dog foods available in the US are available in Canada. Don't forget Canadian prices are in Canadian dollars and the the exchange rate is about $1.35.
Great job editing this one. I laughed out loud when I saw the quick transition between Joe dumping tanks (no gloves/your recent survey) and eating his sandwich in the truck 😂 Well done.
@@Retired5oh Now I'm trying to come up with other creative things....maybe a transition from the clear elbow mid dump to me casually eating a chocolate frosty?? 😁 -J
I'm sure you know this... but don't stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables, or eggs. Also, no pepper spray. You can take approved bear spray. Since there are no roads to Juno, I wonder if they'll quiz you about that address. Hope we get a chance to meet you in person! We plan to arrive in Alaska around second or third week of July. :)
Yep! We're clearing out all our produce and meats! If they quiz us on the address it should be interesting because I don't know what they want us to do....we boondock 90% of the time 😂 -J
It is amazing what you did for Trinity. It touched my heart so much I wanted to reach out and if you are interested, I would gladly love to help if you guys need some help with dog training! I am not a certified trainer but I do have a Service Dog and we went through 2 years of training so I think I learned a lot…..lol. 🐾❤️
Appreciate the offer. At the moment we're very much wrapped up in keeping our heads above water that we're just working on some of the basics with her. Any advice on getting her to come every time when called would be great. We currently use boiled chicken (her kryptonite) outside and it works until she gets distracted...and then there is no getting her back on track generally. -J
@@OpenRoading Hi! I know exactly what you mean dog training can be very demanding especially when you are so busy. So to start out with just come up with an easy mark and reward system for her to make communication with her easier. For instance, you want her to sit: what you would do is give the command and as soon as she completes the command say “yes”, so she knows she did the command correctly then reward her with her favorite snack. Make it a party for her and she will learn if I listen, I get rewarded. Over time you can phase out the rewards if you want but it is up to you. This principle you can use with any command. An important thing is do frequent short training sessions to start maybe 15 minutes at a time. You want them to stay engaged with you the whole time so if you make your sessions too long she will lose interest. With that, try to make yourself more valuable to her than the environment. You want to be the most valuable thing to her and in return she will learn all the good things come from you. It would be a good idea to teach her a “place” command especially since you are on the road. For this you can use a bed, blanket, mat or whatever you have. You can teach her to stay in her “place” until released. This is really helpful for when you are setting up or you just need her to stay in one place where you know she is at. Start by showing her the place, walk her over to it and when she gets on the bed and sits or lays down mark it by saying yes and reward her. Always reward in the position she is supposed to be in. When she tries to get off the bed just tell her no, walk her back to the bed, and tell her place again. It is just a lot of reputations and practice. For her recall: Get a long lead, to practice with. This does take time but she will get there. It is literally just letting her get a little bit away from you then tell her come and give the leash a little pop if she doesn’t come, not to hurt her but it is too break up their fixation and bring there focus back to you. When she comes back again, make it a big party for her with lots of rewards. Each day you can go a little further and further. I personally always have her favorite treats with me. Once she gets better at it you can take her to places with more distractions and train around distractions too. Try to start this command with as little distractions as possible then build it up to more distractions that to solidify her come. I don’t know if you know this but Lowe’s and Home Depot allow you to bring your dogs into the store as long as they are behaved so when Xena was younger we used to train in there as well. I also use good so she knows she is on the right track and no when she is just totally lost. Kind of like hot cold I guess….lol. I have so much more I could tell you but I will write a book….lol. I hope that helps a little but if you need anything I will leave you my e-mail and then we can talk a little bit more. I am afraid to leave my phone number on here for the public but I would give it to you to stay in touch if you want!
@@kristenpoe4967 Thanks so much for this. We are doing most of this but I think our biggest fault is we aren't doing consistent training sessions every day. She does really well with "sit," "boop" (having her boop our hand) "shake" But "come" is impossible once she is remotely distracted. It's like she will behave once she wants to behave outside. We should probably be doing a lot more with her inside. -J
@@OpenRoading Ah! Did not know that she was in heat. I am so glad you adopted her. She is a gorgeous dog. I have bred and shown dogs for over 35 years. Trinity is just gorgeous. She has beautiful neck into shoulder, good strong rear and she is so totally well balanced. What does all that mean. That means that she is build correctly so you will not get hip and joint issues and early onset of arthritis. Bottom line, you hit the jackpot when she decided she belonged to you. Also, having a big dog on the road is a huge safety factor. As a senior woman who is a Roadtripper no one messes with an older woman with a big dog! CONGRATULATIONS! To you and Trinity, she is one lucky girl.😎

Some CVI are only good for 2 weeks prior to entering that state. I used to work at a vet clinic and some owners wanted to be proactive and do it months ahead of travel time but the certificate would expire and they would have to do another one closer to travel day. The longest paperwork is to Hawaii, definitely start months in advance for that one.
So I'm curious - Since we are in state for more than 30 days how would that work? We've spoken with someone else up there who said while technically they are only good for 30 days it's treated as more of a guideline and they've never seen someone have a problem with it being up to 90 days old. -J
The main reason for the certificate is to certify that your pet is free of any diseases or parasites. So that is why a certificate that is older than 2 weeks prior to entering the state is not accepted. Once in the state you should be fine to stay as long as you want but when coming back to the lower 48 you will most likely need a new certificate. Check the state's USDA guidelines some are easy and explain everything others you need to call them to get the information.
Kalyn, how can you look so cute with sunburned cheeks? i look old and ragged. Your propane search (don’t advertise if you can’t fulfill it) brought back my recent frustration. I pick up mundane prescriptions constantly, with no issue, but of course when I needed to start eye drops immediately, we see something I’ve never seen in my life. Well within normal hours, there was a bog sign stating that there was no pharmacist on the premises, so they couldn’t hand out any scripts. Whhhaaaaat? Trinity will bark less as time goes on and she’s more comfortable respecting you guys as the alphas. She’s still in protection mode until that’s clear. I wish you wouldn’t forgo activities to edit videos. You’re doing great. You’re not going to lose anyone if a video gets pushed back a day. :) Having worked in a related industry, I can confirm that places 100% use pricing to thin crowds. It’s one reason concerts and sporting events are so ridiculously expensive now. There are soooo many more people every decade, they just can’t keep up with demand at lower prices. To an extent, it’s just supply and demand working correctly, but it’s still manipulated enough to make me cringe. I wish I could rationalize starlink, but being only a weekend warrior… I’ll just keep bringing movies with me. :) I miss my pupper when I’m gone for a couple hours. I feel you. When we had him neutered, I was most bummed that he grew so much while wearing the cone and missed two weeks of cute puppy pictures. Joseph started looking red on the hike. :) You guys are dog magnets. LOL LOVE the no hands climbing quickies! Oh my heart when Kalyn was so close to a cliff edge (by my standards, anyway). I never had fears until I got older and now I’m got some minor claustrophobia and fear of heights. ALWAYS start with “Everything’s fine.” My mother had a life threatening medical emergency once, and my brother hemmed and hawed until I yelled in to the phone, “Is she alive?!?!”” She was and still is, but my brother will never make that mistake again. I wish PA was on your way to Alaska. We’d be happy to love on Trinity with you until you got back. I know you’d miss her too much, anyway. :) Can someone in the lower 48 help in any way with pet food shipments or any other logistics while you’re gone? (I’m volunteering. :) We already do it for a friend in Canada who doesn’t want to let go of his American citizenship.) I was surprised Trinity wasn’t more excited, too. maybe she was just sore and tired.
Oh please continue to keep them all in one! I actually prefer it that way. 😁 It's funny how you always have access to something until you REALLY need it...then it's suddenly out of stock or unavailable EVERYWHERE within a 6 hour radius. As to forgoing activities - we treat youtube as a proper job. Something we didn't do in "Act 1" and "Act 2" and something that probably contributed to the lack of success. SOoooo it's part of the motivation to keep rolling on it. Maybe some day when the channel is paying us enough to do this fancy thing called "saving" we'll pull back a little bit. Time will tell. 😁 We're considering a meetup in October/November in Binghamton, NY. I seem to remember you're over on the east side of PA - so I'm not sure if that's close enough for you or not. It's not set in stone - but just putting it on your radar in case that would be something you're interested in. And yes...always start with "Everything is fine." I got in a rollover accident at work once when I worked for the news and when I called Kalyn "I'm OK" were the first two words out of my mouth. 😂 -J
@@OpenRoading I’ll keep them all together. I only wanted YT to pay you as much as possible, but happy to do whatever you prefer. :) YES!! I’m outside of Philadelphia and would LOVE to join people/you nearby, which NY is. I am all over Facebook groups trying to find people to meet, but nothing pans out (so far). I’ll watch for more information when it gets closer.
The deal is that "full service" vets have to justify their premium prices over the "low cost S/N clinics" that are usually around. (the same vet may well do both - they cater to different crowds) You get "observation" and likely a whole bunch of pre-loaded syringes of liquid medication. Low cost clinic you pick up at 5pm, and they either give you pills or just tell you to call if she has issues. That and $150 are the main differences . :)
This vet was super reasonable on the price - Buuuuuuuuuut......We never once spoke to the vet. I don't think I would ever consider going back. I don't know if someone was even there overnight. I think the only reason they told us of the infection was because they charged more. 👀 Could be the best vet in the world...I just don't know because I never met him or her. -J

Trinity (Talking to another homeless dog at a park): Humans are saps. So easy. You get this good, clean water, bathing, butt cleaning, poop scooping, clothing, petting, treats, medical care, tooth care, barking and growling privileges, free travel, sex without puppies, you are loving large. It's dog heaven before we even get to dog heaven.

Pupper is not a word. But illiterates invent such things and contaminate their own language.

We are heading through Canada to Alaska in June! I called the state vet office in Alaska and as I understand it the health certificate must be no more than 30 days old.

Already done! 🙂-J
glad all went well
We knew it was routine - but man...still a lot of nerves we weren't used too! -J
I'm thinking you haven't gotten to the end of the video yet... 😁 -J

The annexation can't come soon enough, at least for the Canadians.
I have zero idea what you are talking about… -j

More videos per week please
Why don’t you see if you can order the food online, and when you know where you’ll be, have it sent to you.
We do ship some things - but since we boondock 90% of the time and move locations often it's not always feasible. A lot of pack and ship places charge up to $10 a package to have things delivered to them as well. 👀 -J
No PB&J so disappointed
I think we get back on track next week! -J
Never share good boondocking spots. If you direct the masses where to go soon no one has a place to go.
We don't subscribe to the theory that we are allowed to enjoy something and no one else is. A lot of spots we enjoy are because others have shared. -J

Some food for thought: in this comment you are, in effect, blaming me for the actions of others. You are saying that it is my fault that other people are trashing sites. Meanwhile, every site we go to we leave it cleaner than we came.
If someone t-bones me I'm not blaming the car dealer for selling them the car - that's silly. And to say that I can enjoy these boondocking spots but you can't is elitist. I have no more right to enjoy the boondocking spot than the next guy. This is why they are....public lands.
I'd rather spend my energy encouraging people to take better care of them than preventing them from being enjoyed. -J
@@DinoLeon-10661t We've been nomads for 5 years. We have seen sites close down. Once again - you are trying to hold me accountable for the actions of others.

I live in Alberta and travel to Idaho. I don’t find groceries more expensive in Alberta, especially when you factor in the exchange rate on the dollar. Currently a Canadian dollar is worth 73 cents US.
Good news! -J

Random Question...do you have a video of your RV reno? I am actually just wondering about the roller shades in your living room? Where did you get them?
We attempted to video the renovation but quickly discovered that learning RV life and UA-cam lIfe at the same time was not working for us.
As to the roller shades:
We made them.... (It was a group effort between us and our mothers actually) 😁 Here's the TLDR breakdown
- Cheap vinyl shades from Lowes
- Remove the vinyl
- Cut fabric to size (make it a few inches longer than the window)
- sew a space for the bottom rod and surge or fraycheck the cut ends
- use double sided frabric tape to attache to the rollers.

Haha! I'd just be worried that at some point I'd just grab a handful of granola and end up eating true instinct instead! 😂 -J
9 out of 10 times, depends on the situation completely, but it is your dog, you can ask to get her back for the night…
Let’s be real, 99% of vets don’t have someone there at night watching the animals..

Did you know that tumbleweed is not native to America it was imported from Russia
I did not know this! -J
I'm pretty sure a health certificate is only good for to weeks!
So all our research has pointed to 30 days BUT from people we have spoken to it is a lot more of a guideline. They've had one at 90 days and the officials had no problem with it. 🤞🏻 We are currently just under 60 days from entry to Alaska. -J
Hope you washed your hands in the 5 seconds of video between tank dump and sammich intake. 🤣
The magic of a 30 minute stop getting edited down to 30 seconds 😁 no one will ever truly know!! (Of course I did. 😄) -J
Work your way over to Lake Powell, you won't regret it.
It's on our someday list! I think I'd like to get there when we have the budget for a boat or wave runner rental. -J
Whenever you need an address and you don't have one? Just use the street address of the Governor's residency or office.
Not a bad idea. 🙂 -J
Of the things this channel makes me wonder there is:

I learn many things purposely each day. So, I totally concur with both of you. It's about the challenges and the journey. The goals are aiming points more or less. It was a fun and interesting video again. Glad Trinity is well. I'm surprised Alaska is a hurdle to pets or that certification beyond rabies I've never heard before.
We have grocery stores and pet stores up here in Canada.
haha! Yes, we are aware. 😁 There are two reasons we are stocking up:
1 - Specific brands. There are certain things we don't want to switch brands for. Unfortunately pet food is one of them so we'll just have to hope that what's up there is the same. Something we are aware of is in different countries sometimes teriffs and laws mean a brand product that looks the same isn't actually the same (chocolate for instance - A reese in Canada isn't the same as a reese's in the states because Canada has specific chocolate import laws that the US does not.)
2 - Cost.
Yep! Got our currency conversions at the ready! -J
Does the rabbit require a health certificate?
Yes. Not for Canada but for Alaska. Stay tuned to next weeks video. -J
Great job editing this one. I laughed out loud when I saw the quick transition between Joe dumping tanks (no gloves/your recent survey) and eating his sandwich in the truck 😂 Well done.
Haha! I promise it wasn't intentional!! I swear! -J
Caught that too from a fellow no glover!😂
@@Retired5oh Now I'm trying to come up with other creative things....maybe a transition from the clear elbow mid dump to me casually eating a chocolate frosty?? 😁 -J
😂 or enjoying a refreshing chocolate ice cream cone 🍦
@@Retired5oh WHILE WEARING GLOVES! 😂
@OpenRoading we gave the address of a campground, when we went in 2022.
@@juanitasellshouses Makes total sense. We have a grand total of zero campgrounds booked. 😂 #BoondockerLife -J
It is a great hike. Did that one 3 years ago.
So awesome, especially for such a short one! -J
You guys are real dog parents now. Congrats. It is not the same without them.
They steal your heart pretty quickly! -J
Trinity has wormed herself into your life and heart.
From the first time you met her I thought she was a special dog.
Indeed she has!! And she is! -J
Great video! Love the Trinity saga!
Thanks so much Cody & Angela! I've got to catch up on your last 4 videos! I honestly don't know how ya'll manage 2 per week! Nice work!! -J
@@OpenRoading That's so nice, thank you! Sometimes we ask ourselves the same thing! ha!
For her recall:
Get a long lead, to practice with.
She does really well with
"sit,"
"boop" (having her boop our hand)
"shake"
But "come" is impossible once she is remotely distracted. It's like she will behave once she wants to behave outside. We should probably be doing a lot more with her inside. -J
Your timing was good, had start of pyometra. Especially if it were closed you could have lost her. So really glad you finally got her spayed.
We were just waiting until she was out of heat. 🙂 -J
@@deborahreneelewis7280 I can vouch that she is very strong with that build. 😂 -J
😂😂😂😂 Trinity barking at the sticker dog! I was laughing so hard! My dog (rip) lost her mind, when I left a gardening trowel outside! I was so happy to know how safe I was 😂😂😂
Some CVI are only good for 2 weeks prior to entering that state.
@@monicacastillo801 we'll be sure to check! -J
Great video... well done
Thanks so much! 🤗 -J
Having worked in a related industry, I can confirm that places 100% use pricing to thin crowds.
I miss my pupper when I’m gone for a couple hours. I feel you. When we had him neutered, I was most bummed that he grew so much while wearing the cone and missed two weeks of cute puppy pictures.
Joseph started looking red on the hike. :)
You guys are dog magnets. LOL
LOVE the no hands climbing quickies!
:) We already do it for a friend in Canada who doesn’t want to let go of his American citizenship.)
I was surprised Trinity wasn’t more excited, too. maybe she was just sore and tired.
I’m going to start breaking my comments up so it helps your algorithm. LOL
Oh please continue to keep them all in one! I actually prefer it that way. 😁
It's funny how you always have access to something until you REALLY need it...then it's suddenly out of stock or unavailable EVERYWHERE within a 6 hour radius.
We're considering a meetup in October/November in Binghamton, NY.
YES!! I’m outside of Philadelphia and would LOVE to join people/you nearby, which NY is. I am all over Facebook groups trying to find people to meet, but nothing pans out (so far). I’ll watch for more information when it gets closer.
@@ChrisW228 I'm not 100% convinced the number of comments makes a difference to the algo anymore. But they sure are encouraging to the creator! -J

Next time I'll figure out a transition from the transparent elbow to a me sipping on a glass of chocolate milk. 😂 -J
😆
Could be the best vet in the world...I just don't know because I never met him or her. -J
