Woke up in Tokyo was created for their Japanese audience. I was reading an article from one of the composers of woke up in Tokyo and he said that style is very popular in Japan. I like it! It’s cute but it did throw me off at first.
anyone who's into anime and japanese music understand the song lol, but the thing is that most people wanted a badass rap song from the first unit, at least they already show what they can do on the others songs
Same here, at first i was like what? But then a couple of replays i kinda love it it's fun. And seeing Asa and Ruka sang part of the song yesterday on Korean youtube show it hits different they're enjoying and I love it specially Ruka sang the Eee eee part cutely.
You know how genuinely bad that song is? Asa and Ruka were singing it on that 4 hour live and they couldn't even take themselves seriously. They were laughing at how bad that song is. It's okay guys you don't have to defend the song because they think its bad too.
I wana thank the people in the comments section to understand why Woke up in Tokyo is made that way, I instantly understood the audience they wanted, as a kpop fan and also an otaku since like 2006 the same year I became a kpop fan, I love Woke up in tokyo because they show how Japan is so lively.
This makes sense! With all music, there will be an audience who loves it and an audience who doesn't get it. In my full Patreon reaction I said the song just isn't for me, it's for the people who love this concept... and that's okay!
For Ahyeon case, I believe that any video that is pre-recorded, the producer has a say in all their dancing. If Ahyeon is over dancing or under dancing, they could easily have done a re-take. As such, it is most likely that she was asked to conserve her energy and breath so that she can sustain the long high belt at the end in a stable tone and not have any issue.
That's what I've been saying the whole time. The girl face doesn't change lol 😂 and she has to tone down on the dancing so she can sing those high notes. She already got hate for screaming and overdancing. Which isn't a thing I'm sorry 😅. But she is fine I believe ❤
My comment wasn't about her dancing at all, I was talking about her facial expression/stage presence. She usually has so much charisma, even if she isn't dancing full out... which she didn't have in this video. Also performance videos are not live vocals & edited, so having a big vocal part doesn't really matter here. I just worry she was 'toning down' her natural magic that makes her such a great performer because of criticisms from netizens, which I hope isn't the case...
I dunno, in my full Patreon reaction I said I'm speculating - I don't know her life or her reality, just what I see in a 3 min video. But I'll say in other videos, she usually looks so happy to be performing... this time, she doesn't look that happy to me. Which is unfortunate, cuz she's talented so I want her to LOVE what she does, the way she wants to do it!
I don't understand why people criticized her cuz she's such a star on stage - her vocals & dance are great and she clearly LOVES what she's doing. I just don't want her to lose that if she's worrying about the comments online 😔 Her face in this video was definitely a lot less engaged than in other performances...
Ugh I wished we got to experience woke up in Tokyo together we all already had a field day with the preview lol it’s such a song that’s for sure but the rest of the album was actually so good like Billionaire Forver and drip are so good
Love your reactions. My reaction was the same with Woke up in Tokyo. I was disappointed at first but when I heard it was targeted to their Japanese fans…I totally got it. I think everyone expected hard rap including me, but think of this as a nice tribute to their home country. Not sure if other Agencies would give their artists this type of opportunity. Although this song is not for me, I’m not mad but in fact happy for them. People make it like this is their only chance to rap hard…they have been doing this since debut and pre-debut. I’m sure they will have more opportunities to rap as unit. Look forward to more reactions!
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! 💚 I am learning from the comments that it was geared towards their Japanese audience, which I wouldn't know much about. I do agree that it just isn't for me... The people who love it will love it. I'll just listen to their other music haha
For me Wake up in Tokyo, just Ruka and Asa write their "missing" childhood while go to Korea and got in YG's trainee days.., that's why YG let's them used it in their album
...okay. That's an interpretation and, again, maybe lots of people love it and it's just not for me. But I think it's possible to write a song about missing childhood that has more to it than this. 🤷🏾♀️ I dunno, I'm just not the target audience - that's okay!
By the way the criticism for Ahyeon was before the album, people are saying it effected her now cause of how reserved she looks in the new performance mv's compared to last.
Yeah, I talked more about it in my full Patreon reaction, but that was my fear - she got criticism before so I hope she isn't "toning it down" now because of that. Her performance is GREAT and I want her to shine! ✨
Uhhh, I don't think I'm looking for more 'mature' lyrics from them. No matter what they're singing/rapping about, I just want them to have well-written songs! They are so talented, they deserve the best!
Lol I love that for you! I know there are people who love it and I'll leave this song for y'all. Meet me on the dance floor when 'DRIP' starts playing 😝
Don't be serious about Lost in Tokyo for me it's just a fun song. what do you expected they are show their baby side which sometime just do sometings crazy and look stupid but it's fun thats all. I laught so hard with the second part of the song.😅😅😅
Yeah, the concept was definitely them being fun & silly, which is cool. Like I said, some people will love it! I just wish for their first album, they got a chance to deliver a full rap track that highlighted their abilities more. Anyway, it's fine - I can just listen to their other songs to hear them spit 🔥!
They are still very young, and Asa only 18 years old, and this is their first album. They debuted only 8 months(the official 7 members). Wait for a few years you will see more of their monster side of musical talent. You should watch their pre debute call " "The last evaluation, " you will love them more. Btw I like your reactions.
Haha I think you might be right about this, honestly. And, like I said, usually when lyrics are in Korean I don't criticize that much. And when lyrics are written badly in English, I criticize EVERY time (lookin' at you, NCT 👀 lol). Though there are a couple groups who have really solid rap lyrics... just not nearly enough 😅
Woke up in Tokyo is the same style of Mamushi of Megan Stallion in a decent, anime coded and BM style, if you are not Japanese you will not understand it, ithey are minors, they will not spit in your face, wait for them, it’s a fun song and intermission to the heavy vocal and rap album. Thanks
Hmm... I admit, I'm not familiar with anime-style music, so there's definitely an element I don't understand. I can see how the overall vibe of Mamushi is similar to this, but the song structure & lyrics themselves are way more well-constructed in that song than 'Woke Up In Tokyo.' Also, a few people mention them being minors but I'm not sure what that has to do with good songwriting. The TWICE remix of Mamushi has great lyrics and nothing I'd call "inappropriate" or wouldn't be suitable for minors. Why do RUKA & ASA's age mean they have to have simple lyrics? Anyway! I did say in my full Patreon reaction that it does feel like a fun little interlude on the album, and also that I'm sure there are a lot of people who love it. I'm just not the intended audience, and that's okay! 💚
Uhhhh, I would say MOST rap lyrics use a lot of metaphors, that's a big part of rap... but they are NOT just random sounds or simple phrases. "peeka-peekaboo-boohoo, click clack click, high high high high" ... "eenie meenie miney moe catch em by the toe" ... literal ABCs (ganadara) and 123s (ichi ni san). I dunno, I guess they're trying to go for a certain concept or whatever, but it just feels like they could get writers to do MORE for these girls. They are incredibly talented and they could showcase that a lot more.
My issue with some of their songs is that they feel like they are writing a thousand word essay, and they keep repeating words to meet it. It’s lazy song writing. They have so much potential and it’s not being utilized.

I think the reason the song doesn’t work for many westerners is the fact that a nursery rhyme melody is used. It’s just kind of corny-sounding.
@Rook_Metal, i like it and I live in the USA. But I understand your point.
You know how genuinely bad that song is? Asa and Ruka were singing it on that 4 hour live and they couldn't even take themselves seriously. They were laughing at how bad that song is. It's okay guys you don't have to defend the song because they think its bad too.

@KPopwithKhadija that's true, since Woke up in Tokyo hits a very specific audience, it'd be very popular on anime expos.

Agreed. People got to calm down about her. She seems happy and everyone should just let her be herself. Thx.
That's what I've been saying the whole time. The girl face doesn't change lol 😂 and she has to tone down on the dancing so she can sing those high notes. She already got hate for screaming and overdancing. Which isn't a thing I'm sorry 😅. But she is fine I believe ❤

Hahaha Benji, I definitely thought of you while I was listening! 😭 That song really was a... choice. But the rest of the album is great!!
Thank you!❤

Was waiting for your reaction thankyou for supporting them❤
Thank you for watching!
Thank you! I had great hope for woke up in Tokyo but, I was so disappointed by that preview that I’ve never listened to the full song.
This is fair, honestly!!!
Finally yeyyyyy
Rita❤
gooooood reaction 😀😀
Chiyeon swagg expressions beuatiful 🔥✨😭❤️
They're so cool, I can't handle it!
YG prioritise the vibe than lyrics meaning alway. Unless artist compose themself.
Don't forget the majority are minor. The lyrics cannot be like you use too. Wait for 3 years when all are abo e 18, the lyrics will change.
Yep, very much this. Which works cuz it sonically always hits!! As long as I ignore the lyrics lol
Uhhh, I don't think I'm looking for more 'mature' lyrics from them. No matter what they're singing/rapping about, I just want them to have well-written songs! They are so talented, they deserve the best!
@@KPopwithKhadijathanks you ❤😭🙏
Babymonster Clik Clak and Drip Performance video Was definitely even more hyped than MV because it's a lot of different mixing and melodies
Performance videos are usually more fun to me - I love seeing the performance element, that's what gets me really excited!
🔥😈🔥
🔥😈🔥
❤️🔥👑🛐
Babymonster slayyy my girl Ruka 💅🏼
She's a BEAST!

Am I the only one who think that Chiquita looks like Ryujin from Itzy at 14:08 ? Looking rly gorgeous and badass like her 😍
Ooh, I see it! It's partially in the eyes and largely just the SWAG they both have! 😍
I Love Wake Up in Tokyo, and 'll protect that song with my soul
KAMEHAMEHA, KAMEHAMEHA !! 🎵
Lol I love that for you! I know there are people who love it and I'll leave this song for y'all. Meet me on the dance floor when 'DRIP' starts playing 😝

No trying to make click clack a lyrically incredible poem. It's meant to be a music hit. Come on!! 😈
Hahaha yeah, lyrically incredible it is not. The beat is fun, though! 🤷🏾♀️
Chiquita so SWAG 💥
💯💯
I get the lyric complaint but idk one rap based kpop group with good lyrics
Haha I think you might be right about this, honestly. And, like I said, usually when lyrics are in Korean I don't criticize that much. Yg tends to use metaphorically lyrics on their songs. That why it feels like it nonsense for some people
Uhhhh, I would say MOST rap lyrics use a lot of metaphors, that's a big part of rap... but they are NOT just random sounds or simple phrases. I like Asa part.
She DEVOURS, every time!!
Wake up in tokyo is the most ridiculous song from baemon.. Wonder what is yg thinking
Ofc..it's supposed to be a song for Japanese otakus? Btw it's a silly and FUN song if you didn't know!
It is... what it is! haha. There's an audience for it. That audience just isn't ME. lol
My issue with some of their songs is that they feel like they are writing a thousand word essay, and they keep repeating words to meet it. It’s lazy song writing. They have so much potential and it’s not being utilized.
