According to Wikipedia, Zhang Xun did not involve Zaifeng in the attempted restoration. But what about Kang You Wei? To what extent was he actually involved? Also did he actually serve as the Imperial Tutor before Sir Reginald Johnston?
Very good note on Zaifeng, another character unfairly treated I think by the show who I hope to mention in the essays to follow Kang Youwei's participation in this obviously doomed plot made him a refugee again so he couldn't exactly serve in the palace.

For example, when Yuan Shikai asked him to step down as Prince Regent, he clearly wasn't happy but the Wikipedia article says "witnesses say he felt relieved when he left office."

A brilliant historical political drama ; it must be continued and depict developments up to 1949 , the establishment of the Peoples Democratic Repulic.
General elections are the politics of mediocrity in the West. The examination system is better than the election system, just like it is now. As for financial supervision, relying on the common people is absolutely unreliable. Transparency in information disclosure is only the last line of defense. Professional internal supervision and re supervision are the core. This drama was filmed by CCTV and funded by the government. I don't understand why they should overly prettify Sun Wen. I can only say that these people themselves don't understand what a republic is. But it cannot be denied that this is a good drama.
Supervision goes beyond just financial related matters. Sun did have the theory on 5 branches of government and the audit branch is meant to divide the power of the legislature. In the west you see time and time again the legislature abusing their powers on the executive branch (US congress), so this audit/impeachment branch weakens the legislative powers of parliaments. Look at the UK for example, the house of commons is de facto the sole ruling body and it becomes a party-state in reality where the conservative party can nominate anyone it likes to become Prime Minister, even someone like Liz Truss. Also, Sun never set out how he would actually like this 5-branch system to work out so there is some imaginary elements to this speech. And by the way, CCTV famous cut this speech from its rendition of the drama and the reason why we can see it here is because this is the non-mainland version.
