I view the incest as a manifestation of just how toxic their relationship is as siblings. Ashley being willing to do absolutely anything to keep Andrew around, and Andrew having an unhealthy attachment to Ashley as the only person who seems to remotely understand or care about him.
But the fact that they seem happier in the incest route than any of the others is... questionable.
It only makes sense, your viewing it from a more level headed perspective but to them all that matters is the two of them, so their only choice as they see it is either distrust each other and end up killing each other or continuing down the slope of trust and obsession that clearly leads to romance.
It also Symbolize how much their parents failed as a parent.
Andrew is considered "Easy" to take care of, because he is "quiet". According to his Mom.
But in reality they just neglect him to the point he have no one to talk to. Andrew however have a timid personality. Therefore he doesn't really throw much of a tantrom as Ashley.
And when ashley was born. She have a personality of a typical attention seeker.
Ashley like any normal child always seek attention, but their parents just decide to deal with that issue by just letting Andrew raise her.
This is basically a Child raising a Child.
Now combine the fact that Andrew a boy that doesn't have anyone to talk to at a young age and Ashley a person that constantly seeks attention but was not given it by her parents but by her brother.
It is basically a ticking timebomb until something goes south.

Not even gonna lie. I can't seem to hate Andy and Leyley (The Characters). They interactions, they personalities, etc. It's all so intriguing as if I can't exactly look at it in disgust. Andrew personality sounds far too close to me (some of the interactions I relate to). Ashley is manipulative and yet *I can't seem to hate her.* We know she's wrong across the Head yet that's kinda what makes her more intriguing. The story made me feel uncomfortable for days after I finished watching someone play through it (I’m not gonna be caught having this game in my hard drive) so I’d say they did a good job regarding the horror part
Story was surprisingly quite good and captivating, and the characters were as well. I’d be excited (if you could call it that) for the third episode but with all I have heard that has happened to the creator from UA-cam comments, something tells me this one is gonna be left incomplete
Tbh they warned us before we took that route and it was just the clairvoyance ( I hope it doesn’t become reality ) but even if it does who cares I guess they are both messed up individuals and they did some terrible stuff so inscest doesn’t make their situation any worse or better

Honestly had no idea about that possibility until it became a route. Always implied from subtext and obvious choices in writing. The game interested me because I was looking for a creepy short game for Halloween. I Heard about satanic rituals, insanity, and canabalism.

The incest thing seems more a symptom of their codependency, and is fully realized upon fully indulging that kind of toxic relationship between the siblings. It’s one of three (I think?) possible outcomes of chapter 2 of the incomplete game.
The other I know of and the one I got first: Ashley sees her own death at the hands of her brother. Honestly might be better than letting Ashley walk this earth, after seeing what she is capable of. (you can’t fix her buddy)

I think it was on this video, or another one about TCOAAL, someone mentioned how it's got 90's or early 2000's vibes about it. That and the art style, lighting, shading, the bleakness of this world. It feels like everything about the world of TCOAAL is dysfunctional. So maybe Andrew and Ashley aren't too out of place in terms of how their world works. There's just a damn good vibe about how this games' story works, and flows.
Either Nemlei is a genius at storytelling, or their writing, and other elements for the game just make it feel complete by pure happenstance. Either way, super dope game, can't wait to see Ep-3. And i hope it doesn't stop after that.

I started watching it cause the memes had me asking "how bad/shameless could it be?" I realized its actually pretty good. The psycological horror that comes from watching those traumatized kids is exactly what makes it a horror game. Horror is supposed to disturb or cause fear so it did a great job doing what it set out to do.

So many different terrible topics that the game tackles in a way when you give it thought like “This dude just murdered and sacrificed his parents and they’re acting like this??” That shit terrifyed me and when they began eating them and shit that was so scary for me I love that feeling of fear when I’m playing a game.

I like this game for 3 reasons.
1) The writing is actually really nice, Andrew and Ashley have good, albeit very very fucked up persona's and a more than terrible relationship, they are rather realistic characters and I find that neat.
2) The portrayal of an abuser like Ashley is actually really accurate and spot on from what I've heard a lot of people say, so Nemlei did their homework and created something that doesn't do a poor job on real life stuff, which is neat.
3) It manages to disturb me, that is a feat in and of itself, I am an unfeeling automaton programmed to not feel, however this somehow manages to make my stomach feel weird.
4) they fuck.

Ok, in all honesty, it's not that the game itself has incest that I find weird. These are meant to be 2 satanic, cannibalistic, murderous phsychopaths. Them being incestuous shouldn't be surprising honestly.
I don't like the whole "ooooh I can't enjoy [media] because fanbase!!1!1 oh the horror" but this is one of the few cases where that would apply, because a sizable part of the community seems to only care about Andrew and Leyley screwing. The main characters, Andrew and Ashley, are brother and sister. They start out the story by murdering their way out of a life-or-death situation and spend the rest of the game as homeless fugitives. They have an extremely toxic relationship where Ashley is willing to do absolutely anything to keep Andrew around, including running his social life into the ground and roping him into committing ever-more-horrific acts. They also acquire a magic artifact which shows them visions of the future, and in one of the story routes, that artifact shows a vision of them having sex.
My point being I actually relate to ashley and her attachment issues. Their story is actually quite sad, and I wish I would pray away the ince$t in the game because of how good the story os
I think the incest part is a reasonable result of their characters, so I think it’s actually a necessary component in order to tell the story correctly. Yes it makes me very uncomfortable, but that was the point. It’s a horror game, not a happy visual novel

I know people will say “okay, but you ignore the murder and cannibalism.” I’ll admit, that’s also disturbing, but I feel like showing a literal sexual crime is just kind of crossing the line. We are already used to violence in video games, so it’s natural that we’d be desensitized to something like cannibalism and murder, but there’s just something so unsettling about casually throwing incest into the game.
It’s like seeing sexual assault happen in a video game.
