      Doesn't matter the snake will be alright. Make sure a heat mat is on one side and the other is in the 70s.

    What about a thermostat for the heat mat? Better safe than sorry.. these mats can get well over the temp needed for a kingsnake i beleive

    • @christianz344
      @christianz344 6 років тому +1

      Nah don't worry about that... The snake will simply move to the cool side, I don't believe they get to hot anyway probably around 90 degrees so the snake will be fine.

      @@christianz344 this is wrong. My temp gun was ranging just over 110 degrees on the heat mat!

    King snakes are actually very resilient snakes they can insure very cool temperatures for extended amounts of time with no problem.

      do you own one? If so how do you like it? I have been wanting one for years and hey they are native to America so not as expensive and super attractive patterns! :)

    • @brandonhvacants2217
      @brandonhvacants2217 9 років тому +1

      They are the best just don't feed it in the tank that it lives in and handle it occasionally to keep it used to you touching it.

    • @cultofmalgus1310
      @cultofmalgus1310 9 років тому +1

      Brandon Sagert yeah I raised a Ball Python. I think the lady said that all these snakes are the same in that regard. You NEVER feed it in the tank it lives in or you will have a vicious guy in that tank. My friend did that with his snake and it went from docile to touchy touchy in just about a week,

      Agreed. My King went a long time without eating as I tried moving him to a feeding tank every time. The stress was too much. I feed him in his habitat now, and he eats great. I try to present the mouse and stay out of the snakes view. I make sure he's taking it near the back of the tank while he's behind his hideout.

    • @rrun13

      Hell no absolutely not. They eat other snakes and they are not social creatures in general.

      garter snakes can be kept in communal tanks, just make sure they are similar sizes.

      Put them on the top to drip into the water bowl - helps cool the air in the enclosure. :)

    I just caught a Cali kingsnake in my back yard 5 days ago. The people at petsmart told me its about a year old based on pictures I showed them. Today was the first time I fed him and although he did get a bit scared at first, he took it like a champ and finished in no time. I am new at this! Any tips on getting him used to me?

      Ok so my snake was starting to go out of it's hidding spot more often when i was in the room, but as soon as other people step in he hides. Only with me he is ok to be out on his tank. Then all of a sudden he hides all day again! Last time I hasn't seen him in 2 days! I was worried. But his water bowl goes down and he eats regularly on feeding day. Anyone know what changed?

    • @bones.and.botanicals
      @bones.and.botanicals 9 років тому +4

      Alejandra Reyes sounds like he may be stressed.

      Emma Broadbent but over what? My room is most of the time vacant and the temperature is just right. I don't move things around too much. But it seems like he is scared of me when I am inside? We are moving backwards:(
