This video made me realize why itachi was using susanoo at the end. He was just burning the last of his life force away. This would leave his dead body intact. This brings up another interesting challenge itachi faced during the fight. Not only did he have to lose in a convincing manner, he had to avoid dying in a way that would destroy his eyes. He HAD to block kirin, not for his own sake, but so that his eyes would survive to be passed on to his little brother.

Itachi is already 2 steps ahead of you knowing exactly what to do. You're extremely fast? Again, 2 steps. You're going to try and outlast Itachi in a fight? Good luck. To add to this, some of the 3 most powerful techniques in the verse are due to his intelligence and planning ability; Izanami, Izanagi, and Kotoamatsukami. Couldn't itachi just get the EMS from Fugaku (his Dad) when he kills the uchiha clan? I think it was mentioned that Fukaku already had the MS, and if not watching his wife & clan members etc being killed by his own son probably would awaken his MS?
Yeah that's what I thought, he could have ems from Fugaku and then have an easier time to unlock rinnegan. He could have eternal ems since the beginning of the series

So 2 Uchiha could use Izanagi while killing each other to survive and gain MS. Then willingly swap eyes to gain EMS. Gaining EMS heals the blindness of MS so maybe they could be healed from the Izanagi use. If not then those 2 use their EMS to get Senju chakra somehow and then both get Rinnegan which should could restore the eyes. If anything they could just take the eyes of an Uchiha who passed naturally (1 per person) and sacrifice that to Izanagi and gain MS then continue from there.

Itachis custom rinnegan ability would be to put people under genjutsu but he'd be able to use the people under genjutsu to put others under genjutsu. Like some sort of genjutsu plague, that he can toggle at will.

if u read correctly he can do that in original verse with ms.(he normally breaks the law of Tsukuyomi known to others) rinne would be basically out of world.
That's only a problem if you're borrowing it, like with Nagato and Obito. Original awakeners seem to be able to spam it just fine (like with Madara, Sasuke and Hagoromo). It's the same with the Sharingan in the way that Kakashi has to use much more chakra than an Uchiha would.

If I had to picture in my head Itachi's original Rinnegan power, I would go for something that takes his expertise and pushes it beyond... hax but modest like limbo. Maybe having an area around him that he can manipulate at will? As a way to say he manipulates reality as if it was Genjutsu, sort of like Law's "Room" in One Piece.
If you don't think too much about his showings, he just seems like a mid tier fighter but he was already doing crazy stuff as a sick & edo nerfed character. With the Rinnegan he would get a massive boost, probably fix his blindness (or if you're gonna grant him EMS as well), fix his body with the King of Hell summon and elongate his lifespan and allow him to find a cure and be able to get stronger with training and experience...
I believe Itachi's rinnegan ability could be "Eternal Darkness". He has to look at someone for 30 seconds without using any other jutsus to turn off their chakra network completely. During the 30 seconds his opponent would experience mental darkness gradually taking over their body, but if they break Itachi's line of sight, the jutsu would stop. Extremely deadly, but pretty easy to avoid if you somehow have the information on it. Best used when Itachi is pretty far away, it fits his "always watching" nature perfectly
Awakener Ability: Amaterasu Clone Allows the user to create a clone of themselves made of black flame. Touch the clone will make the fire spread to you. Destroying the clone causes the flames to burst into the surrounding area. The clone can also perform most EMS and rinnegan abilities. Only one clone is allowed at a time.
Itachi's rinnegan ability would probably be something along the lines of an AOE genjutsu: like everyone in a certain radius automatically gets caught in his illusions.

Dygo your takes can be quite crappy sometimes. Indra and Ashura were already introduced and the reincarnation system was already foreshadowed back in early Five Kage Summit arc. The concept itself is used by Kishimoto to solidify the ideologies and development of Naruto & Sasuke till that point and build up further for the Final Fight. It serves as a decent turning point for their fighter template during the climax of the arc, though controversial as most people seem to forget that even without Hagoromo appearing, they wouldn't have died, Naruto would get the Yin Kurama & some 1 & 8 Tails chakra, allowing him to awaken Six Paths Sage Mode while Sasuke getting healed by Kabuto's sage power and getting Hashirama's chakra makes him eligible for the Rinnegan. The Ōtsutsuki have nothing to do with it either.
I think Itachi's Rinnegan would be something called "Last Breath of the Heavenly Skies". It would mix Tsukuyomi and Izanami, so you'd stipulate a set of conditions for the opponent, and once completed they would be caught by the ability. Once caught, they would be trapped in a Tsukuyomi fuelled by their own chakra, in essence forcing defeat or being drained. And even If you break through your own illusion, Itachi could keep It going with his own chakra. Its almost a free Izanami. Another option would be AoE Tsukuyomi. Maybe 3-5 people at once in the same illusion.
Itachis unique ability would be to instantly switch wounds. Basically like amenatejikara (sasukes power) except it only works on injuries, handicaps, and diseases. Basically if itachi got a cut on his hand, he could use his special rinne power to instantly teleport the cut off of his hand and onto kisame. If he feels bad becauwe kisame is his buddy, he can transfere it from kisame to danzo, or back onto himself. I feel it would fit thematically by being both similar to sasukes, and by dealing with the idea of instead of healing wounds, you can either pass them to someone else, or use it to take away someone elses pain by transfering it onto yourself
Great idea but I think his ability would just be amenatejikara cuz he had the same eyes that sasuke did before he git the rinnegan and the ability didn’t already exist because sasuke died

It makes sense narratively, and they were shown to be slightly different later on, but it kind of felt like kishimoto was running out of ideas.

I speculate that Sasuke awakened the Rinnegan because of the Hashirama Cells Kabuto pumped into him when he was dying (and that similarly Naruto obtained Six Paths Sage Mode from the Bijuu Obito gives him while he is dying), with Hagoromo only gifting Sasuke and Naruto the seals and Amenotejikara and the Gudoudama respectively.
No, he gave them access to indra and ashura Chakra, along with his own 6 path Chakra. This is why sauske got a sharinnegan and Naruto got a new sage mode on top of his own. They both met the fundamental requirements and were given super steriods by the old man

Things that would increase Itachi's chakra. 1: Cured Illness. Easily double his chakra. 2: Unlock EMS double that chakra. 3: Gain Hashirama Cells. Easily double his chakra again. 4: Gain the Rinnegan and double that Chakra. 5: Train up hard for the next couple of months to make up for years off illness in which he couldn't train. Easily doubling that power level. There are other methods. Such as gaining Six paths chakra or Sage mode. But as is. Itachi would have at the absolute least 32x more chakra. Which is then given more mileage as his chakra control likely increases by a similar amount.

Moral of the story, never underestimate Itachi. He did more sick than most healthy ninjas do in their entire life. In my opinion No One should underestimate such an unpredictable Shinobi like Itachi, even Madara (I won't say that Itachi can beat him, but at least he will be pretty much able to put a decent fight that Madara will also be impressed in my opinion). Also how can some of you guys even consider that Totsuka Blade it's slow when no such speed feat has been shown through the Shippuden that state it that it is slow? All of you are assuming it to be slow it may not be the case... Its not that the sword is unavoidable but it clearly has a very long range and is a very long blade. If you look at the manga, Naruto, Bee and Itachi are all relatively small from Nagato's point of view, and you can see the Totsuka Blade extending all the way from Itachi, piercing through Nagato, and still managing to nearly pop out toward the reader out of the page. I would say its fast because Kabuto coudldn't even react to it, and its not like Nagato was completely immobile to the point that he couldn't sidestep the blade. Also, Kabuto controlling people from far away is never stated to inhibit the Edos' reaction speed in any way. Being controlled by someone thousands of miles away didn't stop the Third Raikage from dodging KCM Naruto's Rasenshuriken. And as for Orochimaru, the sword struck him in between syllables of a word during his speech. I think that that is pretty fast. Pair the Totuska Blade with a good feint and its lethal because its ethereal, meaning it can pierce through any object. If the sword didn't live up to its reputation then Orochimaru wouldn't seek it out. People need to stop downplaying Itachi and denying the very clear speed feats of Totsuka. There is no room for interpretations here. The advantage of being an Uchiha, especially for Itachi and Madara, is that during an encounter against them, they always have a counter because of their unpredictable way of fighting factor, they don't run out of options or techniques, they almost always have a counter in their arsenal, even forbidden jutsus seems irrellevant against them, only a few Uchihas know a certain way to approach the situation with a certain and effective technique, that's why is hard/difficult to fight against them in my opinion. ☯️ 🤷🏻♂️ Here are the things that make Itachi so formidable. Tsukuyomi - A genjutsu so powerful that you literally can't escape it unless you have the same blood as Itachi, as stated by Itachi himself and proven later by Sasuke, or you're a jinchuriki. Jinchuriki are supposed to be immune to genjutsu but it hasn't been proven, but when Bee was fighting Edo Nagato and Itachi with Naruto, he said to watch out for Tsukuyomi explicitly. Literally 99% of all opponents fighting Itachi have no way of stopping Tsukuyomi. You could have the power to split the planet in half and it wouldn't matter. (Want to know why? - Kakashi pretty much state it in the actual anime and manga that Tsukuyomi it's such a dangerous Genjutsu Technique because it happen in a instant, even if you realize that you are trapped in the Tsukuyomi, it will be too late, because Itachi could approach you during that time in the real world (or he can use an Explosive Clone to approach you without you even realizing it in time and he can pretty much finish you before you can even realize, - 72 hours in Tsukuyomi realm means 1 second or a couple of seconds in the real world. Tsukuyomi can't be broken, when used to it's fullest.) The Sword of Totsuka and Yata Mirror - The Susanoo itself is a near invincible defense but these two weapons take it to the next step. The Sword of Totsuka can seal "anything" if it even touches it. It's completely OP. It's hard to fight a guy that can seal you away if his sword even touches you. The Yata Mirror is even a bigger deal in my opinion. It doesn't block attacks, it's "negates" them. You could throw an Amaterasu covered Bijuu bomb at Itachi and the Yata mirror will negate it, making it so the Susanoo doesn't even need to take a blow. You could punch the Yata mirror and the force will completely be negated. His biggest strength of all: tactical intelligence - Itachi always outsmarts and plans for everything because the plot demands it. You're physically strong? Itachi is already 2 steps ahead of you knowing exactly what to do. You're extremely fast? Again, 2 steps. You're going to try and outlast Itachi in a fight? Good luck. To add to this, some of the 3 most powerful techniques in the verse are due to his intelligence and planning ability; Izanami, Izanagi, and Kotoamatsukami. Izanami - A forbbiden genjutsu technique that allows you to alter someone's destiny. Impossible to break out of even if you know you're in a genjutsu without complying with the users set destiny for you. Even someone like Bee, a perfect Jinchuriki, can't escape Izanami unless he does what Itachi wants him to. Izanagi - You somehow gained an advantage over Itachi? He makes it so that advantage never happened. Kotoamatsukami - Though Shisui's technique, Itachi has his eye which effectively makes it his weapon. A genjutsu so powerful that the person it's cast on doesn't even know they're under a genjutsu. Like the Tsukuyomi, completely OP. To add to all of this, Itachi is pretty good at hand to hand combat, is great with shuriken, is extremely fast, is great with regular fire techniques, is slippery and unpredictable, and has the extremely dangerous and fast Genjutsu style of fighting approach that can caught you off guard almost at any time. With all of these things considered you've got one dangerous ninja. Lastly but not least Kishimoto made sure that Itachi was seen as someone special and he did an incredible job in establishing that in the story. When Itachi Uchiha awakened his Susano'o, he was seen wielding legendary weapons of the Totsuka Blade and the Yata Mirror. The former allowed Itachi to seal anyone he pierced in a world of genjutsu forever, while the latter gave him the ability to deflect any and all attacks thrown towards him, regardless of whether they were physical or spiritual in nature. According to Zetsu (who was around since the period of Kaguya time era until the present of Naruto) he state it in the anime and also in the manga that these weapons, when combined with his Susano'o, made Itachi Invincible. This is why Kishimoto basically had to give him a handicap: Naruto AIDS. 🤷🏻♂️ ☯️

When Sasuke almost died, Kabuto was the one who healed him right? I could've sworn that K mentioned he transferred some Hashirama cells during the process, which is what I think allowed Hagoromo to manifest within Sasuke and then in turn awaken his Rinnegan
I think itachi's renegan ability would probably be something related to his genjutsu abilities, something like being able to manifest physical objects from his illusions, creating all sorts of attacks and traps.
I heard this from i think it was seth the programmer before or chuck and a cool rinnegan ability could be Itachi using his crows with rinnegan and use them like snipers shooting out amatarsu or swap places with those crows as he teleports

Couple counterpoints with taking somone elses EMS, a potential candidate could have also been shisui, as he did have access to one, and could potentially get the other through danzo Though the way madara explains it in the 4th war makes it difficult to tell if it has to be closely related or not, as the only eternal EMS we've seen have come from brothers or bs. That does still potentially leave him gaining access to his fathers, assuming the leaf still has them be it danzo or the village itself, there kind of were viable options but i do think it may be next of kin kind of thing

I was wondering how he would deal with the whole "takes of lifetime of having indra and ashura chakura to awaken a rinnegan" thing. Just because both sasuke and madara were near death when it awakened doesnt mean that being near death is part of the criteria. Im pretty sure the wait is part of the criteria if you arent eating fruit from the "whatever its called" tree. Even if being near death meets the criteria i doubt you can cheese it by putting yourself in a near death situation and knowing you will be healed.

if the rinnegan allows you to recover chakra and rejuvenate yourself, why didn't Nagato do it when he had all the biju chakra and the time to do it.... one of his weakness was his mobility and the rinnegan chakra drain

Also he has a Rinnesharingan instead of a regular Rinnegan and he has Six Paths chakra, so maybe he isn't a good comparison. As an awakener, Itachi would have so much chakra that it probably wouldn't be an issue. Also, it probably would drain much less chakra from him than it did from Nagato because he was borrowing the eyes. Just like any Uchiha can keep their Sharingan activated and spam their abilities much more than Kakashi can (well, at least before the War Arc).
About the yata mirror, do clones also get the susanoo upgrades? I feel like if he has a blank check for Chakra reserves, then what's to stop him from making like 5 clones using back to back teamwork to create an Invincible barrier sphere?
Kamui doesn't work against genjutsu and Itachi is literally the king of genjutsu. Obito's biggest weakness is Itachi's greatest strength. Obito is still a sharingan user, but I think that at least negates the advantage he gets from Kamui. Especially if Itachi has Rinnegan genjutsu. It's not unlikely his unique Rinnegan ability would be an incredibly powerful genjutsu.
Both itachi and obito fought yagura of the mist and itachi almost lost even tho he had a sidekick but obito controlled yagura with genjutsu for years even tho he had 3 tails inside him and when the genjutsu is lifted yagura of the mist died😄

His unique rinnegan justu would have to be genjutsu based. I think like the old PS2 Ultimate Ninja games, it's a large AOE Tsukiyomi around him (say 2-3 metres radius), where anyone entering this AOE gets caught in it, irrespective of eye contact.
I mean, if we're talking about an Actually Evil, Not Faking It version of Itachi, and he's up for holding people like Tsunade captive long-term, are we sure Sasuke's dead? You can live without eyes and Itachi acted pretty dedicated to tormenting him. It wouldn't be an exciting fight, per se, but it would be poetic if, for all his unimaginable ocular power, Itachi dies from being poisoned by a blind man.
after thinking about the fact Hashirama cells are so widely known to be a cure for seemingly everything, I could see Itachi going after some cells to cure himself, without even knowing he is gathering the two things needed to gain the rennegan. Liek imagine he awaikens it accidentally and is like "WTF? HOW did I do that?"

I think he would have a Rinnegan ability that allows anyone who has even the slightest thought of malice against Itachi to be placed under a genjustu where they experience a Diavalo like death until he releases the Genjutsu or stop thinking bad about Itachi.
I think Itachi's Rinnegan ability should be related to genjutsu... that's his whole theme. Perhaps a genjutsu that cannot be resisted by anyone, and can create physically real illusions that can even harm people within 30 ft as long as any of their senses can perceive it. The thing that makes it stronger than MS genjutsu is that it cannot be resisted or avoided as easily. It is kind of life creation of all things, except rather than creating permanent things it can rapidly produce illusions that come to life temporarily. The illusions have to spawn at least 5 ft away from the enemy to prevent enemies from just getting hit with some giant shuriken at point blank range or something. It's not supposed to be an instant kill finishing move, more of a very powerful diversion technique to feed of of Itachi's creativity. You would probably have to give it other restrictions on what those illusions can be so that he doesn't become invincible, but that's the outline.
Nope, Kabuto pumped Hashirama cells into Sasuke to heal him hence he awoke the rinnegan. Hagoromo even said that their power ups depends on the events taking place out side💀

Guys I had one doubt since I was watching Naruto - it's established that perfect susano is very big ...far bigger than normal susano with legs ...like how Sasuke fought against jubi-obito with Naruto - so ...in tht fight naruto uses kurama avatar and it is prettymuch rhe same size as sasuke's legged susano ...and later when Sasuke awakens the perfect susano ....which is way bigger than tht ....how come Naruto:s kurama avatar is matching it's size ...when in fact it was as big as legged susano ....does just kurama standing up like humans make it that big ...or the avatar that Naruto uses is actually bigger than the actual kurama itself ???

So we'd have to use a theoretically healthy itachi, whom would be a bit faster and stronger than Edo Itachi, with slightly more intense jutsu output. He'd also have easily many times more chakra and physical stamina than his sicker counterpart. Considering MS Sick Itachi had more stamina than MS Sasuke (Discounting Karins and Zetsu's chakra regen interference.) He'd likely have slightly less chakra and stamina than EMS Sasuke. In order to appropriately handle the Rinnegan, Itachi would require Hashirama cells. These cells would give him some physical regeneration. Nearly double his physicals and near triple his chakra and stamina reserves. In addition to making Sharingan and Rinnegan abilities cheaper and more potent. Gaining a rinnegan pair would provide him with another chakra and physical boost. Nearly 50% physicals and easily double chakra. He'd gain a perfect Susano'o and likely have a unique Rinnegan ability. Knowing Itachi's mindset it'd likely allow him to create a more physical version and considerably more powerful Genjutsu to even Tsukuyomi that can control the concept of time within the mind and cause both mental and physical harm. Overall assuming Healthy itach is 20% stronger than Edo Itachi. This Itachi could be 5-6x better physically and like 18x more chakra and jutsu power. His chakra control would also Skyrocket making that mileage even larger. This would increase his chakra amping massively. So realistically he'd easily be on par with Sasuke. If not still above him.
If Itachi had the Rinnegan i think his special ability would be a super powerful Genjustu like Infinite Tsukuyomi or a combination of them all. knowing that's his speciality like Sasuke in speed manifesting in teleportation and Madaras limbo is a hard comparison to make but i guess assumptions can be made. (Such as how alone or isolated he is now) Another Rinnegan ability could be a type of foresight or precognition... like being able to see the future. Or it could be something more tangible and complex like manipulating reality like he does in the genjutsu but thats beyond broken. There isn't much outside these that fits with his character who is already super busted to the point it may be useless or a cool idea that becomes an after thought for the new God of Shinobi.
Itachi while healthy and with let's say his father's eyes as he wouldn't kill Sasuke for his EMS (to me it's canon that Itachi's dad had the MS just hidden he was the leader after all) could solo most of the people in the Narutoverse and definitely give someone like Madara or Hashirama a good run for their money, in this case the VOE versions but Itachi with rinnegan? He would solo everyone and it's debatable of how it would go against Juubito, Juubidara and Kaguya but probably he'd lose against them unless he figures something out...
I had theory about what caused Itachi's illness. Basically we know that users of the mangekyo can get amps to their ocular prowess by experiancing or causing more tradegy to themselves. We also know that a huge reason why Itachi was so powerful was because of the insane amps he recieved from slaughtering the Uchiha clan. The theory is this: what if getting so many mangekyo amps so suddenly in a single night without having an eternal mangekyo basically poisoned his body. We know Itachi used eye drops to combat his illness so it surely had something to do with his sharingan. Itachi is the only user we've seen never get an enternal mangekyo, but also amp his ocular prowess to insane degrees through cold blooded murder. That's what i think caused the illness to begin with, because he slaughters the Uchiha, flees the leaf, and by the time we see him again in part 1 he's battleing his disease. What changed in that time frame? Only Itachi getting those mangekyo amps after the night of slaughter.
The close to death aspect doesnt add up because madara already had hashirama cells when he died and brough himself back with izanagi and he still hadn't awaken the rinnegan yet.
Well, we saw Nagato cough blood and shorten his lifespan when he activated Chibaku Tensei. Itachi was pretty sick himself, so I can imagine the penalty that he would've had if he tried to use the Rinnegan's abilities. He'd probably die much quicker.
I doubt he deserves to be the leader of the uchiha clan when he chose to kill the clan rather than betray Danzo but he Couldn't even handle MS with his illness and Low chakra levels. Rinnegan wouldve killed him. Even if he had Zetsu/hashirama cells like Obito, hed only have one cos he cant handle 2, theres still no way for him to get it cos theres only 2 sets of rinnegan in the series: Madara, which Pain and Obito got and Sasukes. Well, first off, what would Itachi's rinnegan ability? Asside from the obvious 6 paths abilities, we do know his mangekyo's arsenal is the Tsukiyomi and his secondary attack is Amaterasu. So I believe we can give the rinnegan ability to transform the environment in reality. Instead of Illusions, the world of Tsukiyomi is manifested into reality, just like a reality marble in Fate/ stay night from typemoon.

This video made me realize why itachi was using susanoo at the end. He was just burning the last of his life force away. This would leave his dead body intact. This brings up another interesting challenge itachi faced during the fight. Not only did he have to lose in a convincing manner, he had to avoid dying in a way that would destroy his eyes. He HAD to block kirin, not for his own sake, but so that his eyes would survive to be passed on to his little brother.

In my opinion Itachi is one of the most Unique, Authentic and Influential characters from the series. The thing that people underestimate about Itachi fights/encounters, isn't just his power, (it's mainly writters or Kishimoto's fault for making Itachi seem or to look very powerful throughout the series) but how smart and intelligent he is during various situations, he never, ever underestimates his opponents because of his composure and his way of being, the level of thinking he's on honestly dwars most people in the series, with only people like Minato and Shikaku comparable with him. More precisly, Itachi isn't just any ordinary Shinobi also, he pretty much knows and he's also aware that all strong opponents have weaknesses (including himself), and he specializes in finding those "weaknesses" and exploiting them ("*Even the strongest of opponents always has a weakness*" - Uchiha Itachi) because he's that type of character who can exceed almost any expectations. Itachi is very unique and authentic, especially in the factor of facing various encounters approach, his unpredictability in his way of fighting style approach it's his key factor in all of his encounters. The thing that people underestimate about Itachi fights/encounters, isn't just his power, (it's mainly writters or Kishimoto's fault for making Itachi seem or to look very powerful throughout the series) but how smart and intelligent he is during various situations, he never, ever underestimates his opponents because of his composure and his way of being, the level of thinking he's on honestly dwars most people in the series, with only people like Minato and Shikaku comparable with him. If you look at the manga, Naruto, Bee and Itachi are all relatively small from Nagato's point of view, and you can see the Totsuka Blade extending all the way from Itachi, piercing through Nagato, and still managing to nearly pop out toward the reader out of the page. I would say its fast because Kabuto coudldn't even react to it, and its not like Nagato was completely immobile to the point that he couldn't sidestep the blade. Being controlled by someone thousands of miles away didn't stop the Third Raikage from dodging KCM Naruto's Rasenshuriken. Pair the Totuska Blade with a good feint and its lethal because its ethereal, meaning it can pierce through any object. If the sword didn't live up to its reputation then Orochimaru wouldn't seek it out. People need to stop downplaying Itachi and denying the very clear speed feats of Totsuka. So 2 Uchiha could use Izanagi while killing each other to survive and gain MS. Then willingly swap eyes to gain EMS.
Gaining EMS heals the blindness of MS so maybe they could be healed from the Izanagi use. If not then those 2 use their EMS to get Senju chakra somehow and then both get Rinnegan which should could restore the eyes.
If anything they could just take the eyes of an Uchiha who passed naturally (1 per person) and sacrifice that to Izanagi and gain MS then continue from there.

If I had to picture in my head Itachi's original Rinnegan power, I would go for something that takes his expertise and pushes it beyond... hax but modest like limbo.

I believe Itachi's rinnegan ability could be "Eternal Darkness". He has to look at someone for 30 seconds without using any other jutsus to turn off their chakra network completely. During the 30 seconds his opponent would experience mental darkness gradually taking over their body, but if they break Itachi's line of sight, the jutsu would stop. Extremely deadly, but pretty easy to avoid if you somehow have the information on it. Best used when Itachi is pretty far away, it fits his "always watching" nature perfectly

Indra and Ashura were already introduced and the reincarnation system was already foreshadowed back in early Five Kage Summit arc.
The concept itself is used by Kishimoto to solidify the ideologies and development of Naruto & Sasuke till that point and build up further for the Final Fight.
It serves as a decent turning point for their fighter template during the climax of the arc, though controversial as most people seem to forget that even without Hagoromo appearing, they wouldn't have died, Naruto would get the Yin Kurama & some 1 & 8 Tails chakra, allowing him to awaken Six Paths Sage Mode while Sasuke getting healed by Kabuto's sage power and getting Hashirama's chakra makes him eligible for the Rinnegan.
The Ōtsutsuki have nothing to do with it either.
I think Itachi's Rinnegan would be something called "Last Breath of the Heavenly Skies". It would mix Tsukuyomi and Izanami, so you'd stipulate a set of conditions for the opponent, and once completed they would be caught by the ability.
Once caught, they would be trapped in a Tsukuyomi fuelled by their own chakra, in essence forcing defeat or being drained. And even If you break through your own illusion, Itachi could keep It going with his own chakra.
Its almost a free Izanami.
Another option would be AoE Tsukuyomi. Maybe 3-5 people at once in the same illusion.
Itachis unique ability would be to instantly switch wounds. Basically like amenatejikara (sasukes power) except it only works on injuries, handicaps, and diseases. Basically if itachi got a cut on his hand, he could use his special rinne power to instantly teleport the cut off of his hand and onto kisame. If he feels bad becauwe kisame is his buddy, he can transfere it from kisame to danzo, or back onto himself. I feel it would fit thematically by being both similar to sasukes, and by dealing with the idea of instead of healing wounds, you can either pass them to someone else, or use it to take away someone elses pain by transfering it onto yourself

It makes sense narratively, and they were shown to be slightly different later on, but it kind of felt like kishimoto was running out of ideas.

I speculate that Sasuke awakened the Rinnegan because of the Hashirama Cells Kabuto pumped into him when he was dying (and that similarly Naruto obtained Six Paths Sage Mode from the Bijuu Obito gives him while he is dying), with Hagoromo only gifting Sasuke and Naruto the seals and Amenotejikara and the Gudoudama respectively.

1: Cured Illness. Easily double his chakra.
2: Unlock EMS double that chakra.
3: Gain Hashirama Cells. Easily double his chakra again.
4: Gain the Rinnegan and double that Chakra.
5: Train up hard for the next couple of months to make up for years off illness in which he couldn't train. Easily doubling that power level.
There are other methods. Such as gaining Six paths chakra or Sage mode.
But as is. Itachi would have at the absolute least 32x more chakra. Which is then given more mileage as his chakra control likely increases by a similar amount.

If the sword didn't live up to its reputation then Orochimaru wouldn't seek it out. People need to stop downplaying Itachi and denying the very clear speed feats of Totsuka. There is no room for interpretations here. The advantage of being an Uchiha, especially for Itachi and Madara, is that during an encounter against them, they always have a counter because of their unpredictable way of fighting factor, they don't run out of options or techniques, they almost always have a counter in their arsenal, even forbidden jutsus seems irrellevant against them, only a few Uchihas know a certain way to approach the situation with a certain and effective technique, that's why is hard/difficult to fight against them in my opinion. ☯️ 🤷🏻♂️ Here are the things that make Itachi so formidable. Tsukuyomi - A genjutsu so powerful that you literally can't escape it unless you have the same blood as Itachi, as stated by Itachi himself and proven later by Sasuke, or you're a jinchuriki. Jinchuriki are supposed to be immune to genjutsu but it hasn't been proven, but when Bee was fighting Edo Nagato and Itachi with Naruto, he said to watch out for Tsukuyomi explicitly. Literally 99% of all opponents fighting Itachi have no way of stopping Tsukuyomi. You could have the power to split the planet in half and it wouldn't matter. (Want to know why? - Kakashi pretty much state it in the actual anime and manga that Tsukuyomi it's such a dangerous Genjutsu Technique because it happen in a instant, even if you realize that you are trapped in the Tsukuyomi, it will be too late, because Itachi could approach you during that time in the real world (or he can use an Explosive Clone to approach you without you even realizing it in time and he can pretty much finish you before you can even realize, - 72 hours in Tsukuyomi realm means 1 second or a couple of seconds in the real world. Tsukuyomi can't be broken, when used to it's fullest.) The Sword of Totsuka and Yata Mirror - The Susanoo itself is a near invincible defense but these two weapons take it to the next step. The Sword of Totsuka can seal "anything" if it even touches it. It's completely OP. It's hard to fight a guy that can seal you away if his sword even touches you. The Yata Mirror is even a bigger deal in my opinion. It doesn't block attacks, it's "negates" them. You could throw an Amaterasu covered Bijuu bomb at Itachi and the Yata mirror will negate it, making it so the Susanoo doesn't even need to take a blow. You could punch the Yata mirror and the force will completely be negated. His biggest strength of all: tactical intelligence - Itachi always outsmarts and plans for everything because the plot demands it. You're physically strong? Itachi is already 2 steps ahead of you knowing exactly what to do. You're extremely fast? Again, 2 steps. You're going to try and outlast Itachi in a fight? Good luck. To add to this, some of the 3 most powerful techniques in the verse are due to his intelligence and planning ability; Izanami, Izanagi, and Kotoamatsukami. Izanami - A forbbiden genjutsu technique that allows you to alter someone's destiny. Impossible to break out of even if you know you're in a genjutsu without complying with the users set destiny for you. Even someone like Bee, a perfect Jinchuriki, can't escape Izanami unless he does what Itachi wants him to. Izanagi - You somehow gained an advantage over Itachi? He makes it so that advantage never happened. Kotoamatsukami - Though Shisui's technique, Itachi has his eye which effectively makes it his weapon. A genjutsu so powerful that the person it's cast on doesn't even know they're under a genjutsu. Like the Tsukuyomi, completely OP. To add to all of this, Itachi is pretty good at hand to hand combat, is great with shuriken, is extremely fast, is great with regular fire techniques, is slippery and unpredictable, and has the extremely dangerous and fast Genjutsu style of fighting approach that can caught you off guard almost at any time. With all of these things considered you've got one dangerous ninja. Lastly but not least Kishimoto made sure that Itachi was seen as someone special and he did an incredible job in establishing that in the story. When Itachi Uchiha awakened his Susano'o, he was seen wielding legendary weapons of the Totsuka Blade and the Yata Mirror. The former allowed Itachi to seal anyone he pierced in a world of genjutsu forever, while the latter gave him the ability to deflect any and all attacks thrown towards him, regardless of whether they were physical or spiritual in nature. According to Zetsu (who was around since the period of Kaguya time era until the present of Naruto) he state it in the anime and also in the manga that these weapons, when combined with his Susano'o, made Itachi Invincible. This is why Kishimoto basically had to give him a handicap: Naruto AIDS. 🤷🏻♂️ ☯️

When Sasuke almost died, Kabuto was the one who healed him right? I could've sworn that K mentioned he transferred some Hashirama cells during the process, which is what I think allowed Hagoromo to manifest within Sasuke and then in turn awaken his Rinnegan
I think itachi's renegan ability would probably be something related to his genjutsu abilities, something like being able to manifest physical objects from his illusions, creating all sorts of attacks and traps.

Though the way madara explains it in the 4th war makes it difficult to tell if it has to be closely related or not, as the only eternal EMS we've seen have come from brothers or bs.

I was wondering how he would deal with the whole "takes of lifetime of having indra and ashura chakura to awaken a rinnegan" thing. Just because both sasuke and madara were near death when it awakened doesnt mean that being near death is part of the criteria. Im pretty sure the wait is part of the criteria if you arent eating fruit from the "whatever its called" tree. Even if being near death meets the criteria i doubt you can cheese it by putting yourself in a near death situation and knowing you will be healed.

As an awakener, Itachi would have so much chakra that it probably wouldn't be an issue. Also, it probably would drain much less chakra from him than it did from Nagato because he was borrowing the eyes.
Just like any Uchiha can keep their Sharingan activated and spam their abilities much more than Kakashi can (well, at least before the War Arc).

Kamui doesn't work against genjutsu and Itachi is literally the king of genjutsu. Obito's biggest weakness is Itachi's greatest strength. Obito is still a sharingan user, but I think that at least negates the advantage he gets from Kamui. Especially if Itachi has Rinnegan genjutsu. It's not unlikely his unique Rinnegan ability would be an incredibly powerful genjutsu.
Both itachi and obito fought yagura of the mist and itachi almost lost even tho he had a sidekick but obito controlled yagura with genjutsu for years even tho he had 3 tails inside him and when the genjutsu is lifted yagura of the mist died😄

His unique rinnegan justu would have to be genjutsu based.
I think like the old PS2 Ultimate Ninja games, it's a large AOE Tsukiyomi around him (say 2-3 metres radius), where anyone entering this AOE gets caught in it, irrespective of eye contact.
Itachi's Rinnegan ability would be to skip the line at Starbucks...
I mean, if we're talking about an Actually Evil, Not Faking It version of Itachi, and he's up for holding people like Tsunade captive long-term, are we sure Sasuke's dead? You can live without eyes and Itachi acted pretty dedicated to tormenting him. It wouldn't be an exciting fight, per se, but it would be poetic if, for all his unimaginable ocular power, Itachi dies from being poisoned by a blind man.

I think he would have a Rinnegan ability that allows anyone who has even the slightest thought of malice against Itachi to be placed under a genjustu where they experience a Diavalo like death until he releases the Genjutsu or stop thinking bad about Itachi.
I think Itachi's Rinnegan ability should be related to genjutsu... that's his whole theme. Perhaps a genjutsu that cannot be resisted by anyone, and can create physically real illusions that can even harm people within 30 ft as long as any of their senses can perceive it. The thing that makes it stronger than MS genjutsu is that it cannot be resisted or avoided as easily. It is kind of life creation of all things, except rather than creating permanent things it can rapidly produce illusions that come to life temporarily. The illusions have to spawn at least 5 ft away from the enemy to prevent enemies from just getting hit with some giant shuriken at point blank range or something. It's not supposed to be an instant kill finishing move, more of a very powerful diversion technique to feed of of Itachi's creativity. You would probably have to give it other restrictions on what those illusions can be so that he doesn't become invincible, but that's the outline.

He'd die of Chakra drain near instantly due to illness.
So we'd have to use a theoretically healthy itachi, whom would be a bit faster and stronger than Edo Itachi, with slightly more intense jutsu output. He'd also have easily many times more chakra and physical stamina than his sicker counterpart. Considering MS Sick Itachi had more stamina than MS Sasuke (Discounting Karins and Zetsu's chakra regen interference.) He'd likely have slightly less chakra and stamina than EMS Sasuke.
In order to appropriately handle the Rinnegan, Itachi would require Hashirama cells. These cells would give him some physical regeneration. Nearly double his physicals and near triple his chakra and stamina reserves. In addition to making Sharingan and Rinnegan abilities cheaper and more potent.
Gaining a rinnegan pair would provide him with another chakra and physical boost. Nearly 50% physicals and easily double chakra. He'd gain a perfect Susano'o and likely have a unique Rinnegan ability. Knowing Itachi's mindset it'd likely allow him to create a more physical version and considerably more powerful Genjutsu to even Tsukuyomi that can control the concept of time within the mind and cause both mental and physical harm.
Overall assuming Healthy itach is 20% stronger than Edo Itachi.
This Itachi could be 5-6x better physically and like 18x more chakra and jutsu power. His chakra control would also Skyrocket making that mileage even larger. This would increase his chakra amping massively. So realistically he'd easily be on par with Sasuke. If not still above him.
If Itachi had the Rinnegan i think his special ability would be a super powerful Genjustu like Infinite Tsukuyomi or a combination of them all. knowing that's his speciality like Sasuke in speed manifesting in teleportation and Madaras limbo is a hard comparison to make but i guess assumptions can be made. (Such as how alone or isolated he is now)
Another Rinnegan ability could be a type of foresight or precognition... like being able to see the future. Or it could be something more tangible and complex like manipulating reality like he does in the genjutsu but thats beyond broken. There isn't much outside these that fits with his character who is already super busted to the point it may be useless or a cool idea that becomes an after thought for the new God of Shinobi.

(to me it's canon that Itachi's dad had the MS just hidden he was the leader after all) could solo most of the people in the Narutoverse and definitely give someone like Madara or Hashirama a good run for their money, in this case the VOE versions but Itachi with rinnegan? He would solo everyone and it's debatable of how it would go against Juubito, Juubidara and Kaguya but probably he'd lose against them unless he figures something out...
I had theory about what caused Itachi's illness. Basically we know that users of the mangekyo can get amps to their ocular prowess by experiancing or causing more tradegy to themselves. We also know that a huge reason why Itachi was so powerful was because of the insane amps he recieved from slaughtering the Uchiha clan. The theory is this: what if getting so many mangekyo amps so suddenly in a single night without having an eternal mangekyo basically poisoned his body. We know Itachi used eye drops to combat his illness so it surely had something to do with his sharingan. Itachi is the only user we've seen never get an enternal mangekyo, but also amp his ocular prowess to insane degrees through cold blooded murder. That's what i think caused the illness to begin with, because he slaughters the Uchiha, flees the leaf, and by the time we see him again in part 1 he's battleing his disease. What changed in that time frame? Only Itachi getting those mangekyo amps after the night of slaughter.
The close to death aspect doesnt add up because madara already had hashirama cells when he died and brough himself back with izanagi and he still hadn't awaken the rinnegan yet.
Well, we saw Nagato cough blood and shorten his lifespan when he activated Chibaku Tensei.
Itachi was pretty sick himself, so I can imagine the penalty that he would've had if he tried to use the Rinnegan's abilities. He'd probably die much quicker.
I doubt he deserves to be the leader of the uchiha clan when he chose to kill the clan rather than betray Danzo but he Couldn't even handle MS with his illness and Low chakra levels. Rinnegan wouldve killed him. Even if he had Zetsu/hashirama cells like Obito, hed only have one cos he cant handle 2, theres still no way for him to get it cos theres only 2 sets of rinnegan in the series: Madara, which Pain and Obito got and Sasukes.

Well, first off, what would Itachi's rinnegan ability? Asside from the obvious 6 paths abilities, we do know his mangekyo's arsenal is the Tsukiyomi and his secondary attack is Amaterasu. So I believe we can give the rinnegan ability to transform the environment in reality. Instead of Illusions, the world of Tsukiyomi is manifested into reality, just like a reality marble in Fate/ stay night from typemoon.
