i REALLY love how you broken down the tactical science and technique behind piloting a BIG heavy fighter like the vanguard against light fighters. and its one of the things i really love about this ship is that it takes brains and a different approach fighting in the game that if played correctly can tackle just about anything in the game including light fighters.
Damn, wish I had watched this vid before the fight I just had with an Arrow! He was able to get away because I did exactly what you said not to do and I back-strafed causing me to lose so much speed he was able to disengage and run. I love the diagrams!
The sentinel used to be more nimble than the harb, has that changed recently? Trying to decide between the two since the harb now has a larger turret vs the sentinel. Appreciate any feedback on your thoughts comparing the two!
Hey, AvengerOne. Just found your channel today and I'm having a blast watching your videos. These might be stupid questions but I'd like to ask about the reasoning behind strafing up + nosing down (pitching down). 1. I wanted to ask if strafing down + nosing up (pitching up) would give same result. 2. If answer to above is no, then is it because the bottom thrusters are the most powerful/abundant thrusters next to the main thrusters, and therefore you are using them to aid in covering the angle needed to keep your opponent in line of sight? 3. By saying "turning 180 degree," did you mean you want to keep the enemy's line of advance directly above you? If that's the case, I think I can picture strafing up + nosing down would catch the tail of overpassing enemy fighter. I apologize for all the questions, but I really wanted to get this concept nailed down as I own a Sentinel myself and definitely am planning to practice decoupled mode with dual joysticks in the future. Thanks for all the amazing videos. Liked and subscribed!
Informative videos. A recommendation, three videos I've watched, your recording voice volume is low. A boost might help bring it up to a more balanced level. Keep'em coming.
This is great thank you! Have you done any video's on the Constellation Andromeda? I have one of those and sometimes it feels great, other times it flies like a big angry space potato.
Great video! Would like to see some more of these for the larger ships. The upcoming Redeemer would be interesting especially as with turret gunners they are either anti fighter (S3) or anti-medium/large(S5), and you want keep giving them a good shot.
yo *thank you* for this one! Dog-fighting in the little speedy babies is super intuitive but I feel like I'm flying a MAC truck in my Sentinel by comparison. I'm a Drake man (I just love the rickety aesthetic), but it's hard to argue with the sheer amount of fly time I get to have in a Vanguard
this made no sense to me until i picked up 2 nail clippers off the table to represent ships and tried to maneuver them as you were speaking, ah i get it now, but still pretty complex trying to think what to do mid fight and actually understand whats happening, need to practice.. question tho, i was told once by a pilot far better than me, i should try to match direction and velocity of smaller craft and use de-couple mode to mimic their changes in vector using maneuvering thrusters instead of mains. what are your thoughts on this, or any other de-coupling methods. u dont seem to use it in any of your videos?
When you're pitching up to keep him on your sights, are you also strafing UP + boost? or is there a rationale to strafe down while pitching up to spin you around faster?
Did you play DCS? I feel like you've been teaching dogfighting for a while. And now you're just doing the same in Zero G xD . Thank you for these videos . out of all the "HURR META BUILD" videos.. this one is what you need. no matter what ship/armament you have. If you don't know how to maneuver and be a good pilot you could have the most meta ship in the world and still lose. Bravo!
This doesn't seem to work in a Harbinger against pilots that know what they're doing. Whenever an arrow attacks me in the harbinger, no matter what combination of up, forward, back thrust I try. They stay within 200m of me, in my blind spot and death is inevitable. This seems only to work against dudes that fly like bots in PU. Harbinger seems to accelerate to a decent speed so slowly (even in a straight line) that you can't even disengage. Rolling and pushing my bottom thrusters against his top thrusters doesn't seem to help either. He spins around me no matter which way I'm facing, and if I try and change the direction, the arrow accelerates so fast that there's nothing I can do because by the time I'm looking at him, he's already max speed in the other direction no problem. Seems that harb is just bad.
The reason that is is because the Harbinger has more mass. It takes more time to arrest its movement. This is why it feels "looser in the corners" so to speak.
The harbinger is not the ship to use for this purpose. It takes the beaufighter-vanguard and turns it into a space B29. Still an awesome craft, but not the tool for fighting these targets at all.
@@sparkyails123 Thanks. What the V-H is great for though, and I think it is underrated in this role, is ground attack. An unguided S5 does nasty work to a ballista/cent.
Awesome video! I've been learning a lot from your series. I have two questions related to the ship. 1 do you prefer the sentinel over the other vanguard variants? if so why? 2 do you like the repeater build more than the cannon build(size5 cannon, MVSA cannons in the nose ((i know you need a warden for this build))?
All size 5 laser weapons have a 700 m/s velocity, size 4 and lower have 1400 m/s for repeaters. Using the size 5 would mix velocities, unless you use all cannons. But cannons are awful for pvp.
Thanks for these very informative videos! Is there a reason you are using an Attrition 4 instead of a fixed Attrition 5? Wouldn't the 5 have more damage?
@@Avenger__One Doesn't the weapon size still matter though? Does the lower-sized Attrition have any benefit over the larger one? Better capacitor performance, perhaps?
@@Avenger__One Oh, interesting! I didn't realize the velocity dropped off that much with the S5 weapons. Thanks so much for responding to these comments! Your videos are super helpful
@@Avenger__One Do you still maintain this view after the release of the crazy S5 Ballistic Gatling from the Redeemer? Still better to have much lower dps but better effective range?
lol how? harder hitting weapons.... it's legit heavy weight vs light weight fight. Arrow couldn't keep it close and paid the price. he's using Tobi eye tracker or the other IR for the crisp head movement. Here's another factor, when armor comes in to play the Arrow will stand no chance at all. The days of the Talon/Arrow pip jerking are coming to an end.
@@Avenger__One Should be 2 lights vs a single Vanguard with a gunner for an even fight, which it probably would be with 2 really good pilots in Arrows. I don't think he was at your skill level.
