I always thought Jackie Mason did the voice of the Aardvark and 5 minutes ago I learned it was John Byner impersonating Mason LOL. That fact brought me to THIS video. I have been a lifelong fan of his.
Byner did Jackie Mason and Dean Martin on the old ANT AND THE AARDVARK cartoons on the PINK PANTHER cartoon SHOW on Saturday mornings. He is very very underrated. Too bad..
I remember back in the '70s when he was a guest on the Carol Burnett show. There was one sketch where he came on as Donald Duck, and the premise was that Disney was finally "letting him go" after thirty years of faithful service. Harvey Korman was laughing so hard he could barely deliver his lines, and I was literally rolling on the floor with laughter (I must have been 17 or 18 at the time). Byner is an absolute comic genius!
I may be of the last generation that actually remembers seeing John Byner on the Ed Sullivan Show. I was 7 when Ed was canceled in 1971. My family watched the show every Sunday. This was actually a rather moving tribute!
Lol dude was my childhood. Watching Bizzare at 10pm. Benny Hill at 10:30 then back to Bizzare at 11pm. Always talked about the shows at the bus stop in the mornings.🤣
When I was a kid and I knew John Byner would be on the "Ed Sullivan Show", I would beg my parents not to go out on a Sunday night, and if we did, I would beg them to get me home in time to see John...the best, not only his impressions but his routines were hilarious. Anyone remember him doing "what if certain stars had not become stars but went into other walks of life"...John Wayne as a Catholic priest, Jimmy Cagney as a shoe salesman...hilarious stuff!!
Oh my gosh, I love this guy. He was such a staple of my teenage years. The Johnny Mathis impersonation was always my favorite back in the 70's. I'm glad he is alive and doing well.
I never knew that. I thought it was either Sid Caesar, Jackie Mason or Joey Bishop. They all had those kinds of character voices. I guess we learn a new thing everyday. But John also did an alien voice on certain Hanna-Barbera cartoons, like the Flintstones and Jetsons if I remember.
Yep, Byner did the "Ant and the Aardvark" voices, using his Jackie Mason voice for Ant, and Dean Martin voice for Aardvark. They're all on UA-cam if you're interested.
Sunday roast was at 1:00 after church. Supper on Sunday was take-out burgers in front of the TV with Bonanza, Ed Sullivan, and Mission Impossible. Us kids set up tray tables in the family room to eat and watch with mom & dad.
If there's a higher classification than Genius, John Byner is at the head of the class. Years ago on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson he did his George Jessel to George Jessel who was on the couch. I closed my eyes and could not tell who was who. If anyone has that and can put it on UA-cam you will have made the world a better place.
Mr. Byner is a GENIUS! THIS is what comedy is all about, LAdies and Gentleman! My, how comedy has changed - but THIS is how it's done! Master, as Dave says, in EVERY sense of the word!
I can remember my delight at Topo Gigo. Especially the goodnight kiss. Oh, I wanted him so bad. That was the 1st time I saw the Beatles and so many other great memories. Excellent TV back then. My whole family would eat popcorn and watch. 😆😜
Thanks for posting this! One of the truly great impressionists. I was just commenting on Johnny Mathis' salute to Duke Ellington and I had to remind people of Johnny's incomparable impression. But everthing else he did here was just as fine.
I thought Bizarre was such as great show ... hope John is making a good living. He was very entertaining ... and cutting edge! Probably deserved more notoriety in this business!
Man, John Byner is brilliant! Watched Bizarre as teenager, but I think he shines best at impersonations....(the word "impression" is just not appropriate. You just forget you are looking at John Byrner and see these actual people when you hear the voice. My God, amazing Dean Martin, and to do Jerry Lewis back and forth is just magnificent! Thanks, John!!!!
Excellent ... He does a great job with impressions and switch voices so fast. Amazing. he's sooo funny too. I missed his comedy show Bizzarre with bigot family, super Dave, etc. Thanks for sharing. . .
Hi 🌻✌️ All that follows is just my humble opinion from decades of observation .... He needed to study the footage of himself on the earlier 'Ed Sullivan Show' clips ... He is speaking too fast to completely nail Sullivan's voice.... perhaps take the Sullivan voice down half an octave ... Sounds like he is rushing the voice .. maybe because it's not the '60's and time limits on the stage aren't helped by present - date corporate commercial greed...🤑 He is older here ... maybe he wasn't feeling 'up - to - par' physically that particular day..He could have been recovering from an illness.. who knows ..I remember watching John Byner on the Sullivan Show as a child ... a fan ever since ..😍🤩❤️💓💕 Seemed slightly off his game this night ... still very good ... In his prime, this man was the Best Ed Sullivan impressionist ever heard by anyone . Bar none .. .. Nobody could equal him. A few notches above the rest .. ... All voices he did ... Spot on in his prime... The Best at his chosen craft.💪☝️🗿... Surpassing even the alleged 'master impressionist ' Rich Little .. Byner seemed to have more of a kind heart 🤗💓💓💓..Seeing Mr. Little in interviews ... Didn't impress me as being a nice man... Byner seemed like a real nice man .A real kind hearted person 🤳💪🤗.. I will always much miss his presence walking this Earth .. . Very grateful for John Byner 😊 .😘.. He Brought much needed laughter / joy🌞😂🤣😂😄 to my life.⛲.I would laugh so hard my tummy would ache and laughed till I had tears👍👍 .. 😂🤣🤣. 🙏🕯️🌸🌹🌼🥀🏵️🌺🌻🌷💐 ... May He Rest In The Sweetest Peace ...😍Sleep well 💤💤 and so Peacefully Mr. Byner 🦊.. ⛱️.🌅.. You more than earned it ... 🌹⭐🌟👑🤴🏆💎 ☝️💗. 🗿...🕊️🕊️🕊️. See ya again come final day... 🙁. ☁️🌩️⚡. .......
Love Johns work - but sadly I doubt 98% of this 2010 audience had a clue who Ed Sullivan, Topo Gigio, Johnny Mathis, Jackie Mason, Dean Martin, and Jerry Lewis, or Joe Cocker even ARE (WERE).
Robin Jayne No I'm not kidding, and yes they are great comedians, but in this culture they are now virtually unknown. Not saying I agree with it, but the young folks 20-30 absolutely have no idea who these folks are.
@@lastdaysguitar, most millenials, or even most 25-40's think the world started the day they were born. I have a friend who is a neighbor of an ex-NBA'er from the late 1970's, &80's, a mostly backup center who along with other oldtime NBA vets work on marketing promotion, and also are counselling young NBA players, and he told my friend, the current NBA'ers think the league started with MICHAEL JORDAN..The prima donna attitude is so bad that many NBA alums in that group refuse to continue working with them because they refuse to learn from experience. In Asian countries, the elderly are revered, not here. That is to our detriment.
John Byner did the voices from 'The Ant and the Aaardvark' cartoons. The aardvark character sounded similar to Jackie Mason and the ant character was similar to Dean Martin.
I know I saw Byner on the Tonight Show once doing an impression of Frank Sinatra singing "Thank God I'm a Country Boy". Does anyone else remember it? Is there a video?
3:24 John does Jackie Mason. Coincidentally, the same voice he does for the Aardvark from The Ant And The Aardvark, from the Pink Panther cartoon. I believe John did all of the voices for that cartoon.
Very kik a job. Remember when we had non-democrat propaganda comedy and entertainment ? It was just entertainment... democrats should re-think their new chosen ideological path... and leave their opinions in their a holes for a change. Give us back our non political comedy and entertainment !
His voice for the Character of Doli in Disney's 'The Black Caldron' sounded like Gollum in 'Lord of the Rings' Is that where Andy Serkis got it from or is that a coincidence
@batman4oz, you're absolutely right about Paul. He's an excellent musician, but his idea of banter... He thinks he's being ironic, but the 'irony' and the joke is on Paul himself--he's not funny. Musically, he is hip: he knows different styles, he can play them well. His skill on that end is legitimate. But he thinks if he wears outlandish wear, a la Doc Severinsen, that that will make him a hip personality. Nope!
This guy is criminally underrated and under-appreciated !
MaGuire, Byner, or Letterman? Seems they all are!
Loved Bizarre.
Love John Byner SO MUCH!!
What a incredible impression of Dean and Jerry!
Dean great, Jerry weak.
I always thought Jackie Mason did the voice of the Aardvark and 5 minutes ago I learned it was John Byner impersonating Mason LOL. That fact brought me to THIS video. I have been a lifelong fan of his.
John Byner and Frank Gorshin were da bomb back in the day.
Frank Gorshin was the best! " The Riddler"
Byner did Jackie Mason and Dean Martin on the old ANT AND THE AARDVARK cartoons on the PINK PANTHER cartoon SHOW on Saturday mornings. He is very very underrated.
Too bad..
dont forget rFed Travalina
& Rich Little...

No one can touch this guy. John is a legend,He has his own style of doing impressionist.
I may be of the last generation that actually remembers seeing John Byner on the Ed Sullivan Show. I was 7 when Ed was canceled in 1971. My family watched the show every Sunday. This was actually a rather moving tribute!
Nah, I remember him, too. Just looked him up on Google. As of today, 8.17.22, he's 84 y.o.

Yea... class act!
Thank you for introducing me to John Byner. I'd never heard of him until now - because I live outside the US. He is very good indeed.
John Byner still has it.
Oh my gosh, I love this guy. He was such a staple of my teenage years. The Johnny Mathis impersonation was always my favorite back in the 70's. I'm glad he is alive and doing well.
John Byner ROCKS!!!!! That's all I can type before I roll back on the floor laughing.
🤣
I now remember why John Byner is my favorite comedian of all time.
I remember once seeing John Byner as Donald Duck doing an impression of John Wayne -- one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life.
Dang, that Dean Martin was incredible!
John Byner always did a great impersonation of Joe Cocker. RIP Joe Cocker.
Closing Ed Sullivan line, "Drive if you can afford it". Cracked me up.
Spot on Dean Martin! One of the best impressions I've ever heard.
Yes. It was superb!
The Ant.....is Dean Martin!
Loved watchin' him growin' up. Such clean classic humor.
John Byner one of the best.
A simpler time when Talent was Talent
ONE OF THE VERY BEST!!!!!
He was the voice of Blue Aardvark, Red Ant too.
Yep, and both of those voices are in this video (Jackie Mason and Dean Martin).
I remember that sketch so vividly....John Byner does the best impressions ever. Donald was one of my favs.
I don't think Dean Martin did Dean Martin as perfect as the mega talented John Byner.
He always got better and better!
Awesome!!!!
Yep, Byner did the "Ant and the Aardvark" voices, using his Jackie Mason voice for Ant, and Dean Martin voice for Aardvark. They're all on UA-cam if you're interested.
Flip that.
Byner with Super Dave on Bizarre was an INCREDIBLE show. Hilarious. Billy Barty too.
As a kid I remember him from 'The Anteater & the Ant' and BIZARRE
Sunday roast was at 1:00 after church. Supper on Sunday was take-out burgers in front of the TV with Bonanza, Ed Sullivan, and Mission Impossible. Us kids set up tray tables in the family room to eat and watch with mom & dad.
Great act! His impressions were right on the money. And what an appropiate theater for Byner to be doing that bit.

He has always had a talent!!!!! Our true star from Canada!
Awesome and he did a fantastic Elvis!!!!!
Killin it for 50 years.
That Martin and Lewis was killer. He's great!
Byner was one of the very best Impersonators of all time. 🥴
Can you imagine the perfect Bernie Sanders impression John would do? Somebody call him...what a gold mine!!
He did the voices for the animated “Ant and the Aardvark” with Dean Martin as the Ant and Jackie Mason as the Aardvark.
I remember watching him un the 70s, he was great !
Timeless memories
Suzanne Somers brought me here. She was live in Facebook and mentioned him. He still had it in this routine!
great impression of Ed Sullivan, Jackie Mason, Dean Martin and Joe Cocker. Jerry Lewis, R.I.P.

I miss that show from Showtime with Super Dave......such nostalgia!!
Yes. It was so far ahead of its time was Bizarre. For me, it was on the same level as Mad TV.
@@belia1313 Super Dave a/k/a Bob Einstein passed away a couple of years ago. :-(
What a great guy.
Thanks for making me laugh for years.
Do the Ant!!!!
He did the Ant..Dean Martin...He did the Aardvark...Jackie Mason🤣🤣🤣
It was like watching a recording session for "The Ant and the Aardvark" cartoon!
In the 80's i would beg dad to stay up and watch Benny hill Dave allen at large and Bizarre funny stuff back then ...nothing like that now
John looks better here than on Ed Sullivan decades before! Love his voice as the aardvark growing up in the pink panther cartoons.
I always thought he was better than Rich Little
Fantastic! 👍🙂🎬📺🎥🎶
The ant and the aardvark...

man, his dean martin is amazing.
He was on Soap as well.
Gotta love it.
growing up watching this guy was a riot - but he used to do his "funny voice" out of no where - i gotta find him doing that voice

This guy is one of the best comedian from Canada.... Arica Chile
As a kid I llaughed my ass of at Fossadinni the pet shop owner on George Gobbel's show.
Somebody else remembers Felix Fossadinni!

@ 3:28 The Aardvark!!!!

Why is no one talking about how he’s literally meeting David Letterman, the guy David Litterbin was based on?! Byner voiced Litterbin!!!
Because no one knows wtf Litterbin is!
@terentii I remember that skit - THAT was true brilliance!!
Need to check out Bizarre clips
He was the Ant too (doing a Dean Martin impersonation)
I never saw this before. I didn't realize he was this good. A bit weak on the Jerry Lewis thing, but other than that, he did great.
His Dean Martin was amazing!
is john still working?
yes
Does anyone know the name of the song Paul and the band play going into commercial at the end?
I just bought his BIZARRE series from Amazon. Funny stuff.
The song is 'At Midnight' by Rufus & Chaka Khan

John Byner could do a great impression of Robert Stack too
Would somebody edit out that annoying bandleader?
legend
Will Jordan did Ed Sullivan and Groucho spot on.
For anyone not familiar with John Byner and fans look up Bizarre on utube Rambo's neighborhood for one, truly the funniest show ever on TV.
His voice for the Character of Doli in Disney's 'The Black Caldron' sounded like Gollum in 'Lord of the Rings' Is that where Andy Serkis got it from or is that a coincidence
I like him when he did Felix Fossadeedee. Or that could have been Frank Gorshin that did Felix Fossadeedee. Anyway both of them were great.
I'll just have to take Dave's word for it, because that looks nothing like what I remember John Byner looking like.
His Jackie Mason was great, but Jackie Mason does a great Bernie Sanders.

He is making fun of that. But, other than his Don Kirschner on SNL in the 70's, he is only musically talented.
He should of used his impressions on Bizzare
