      Hari Om. I hope you have seen the episode on the reason we light diyas : ua-cam.com/video/xA0LCSDR6So/v-deo.htmlsi=U54d4DWPUEY40NcV
      Even one Diya suffices for Puja. Some people light a pair of diyas, some light even more. Feel free to do as you feel comfortable doing.
      Usually the lamp is lit in an east west orientation. Preferably with the light facing east. This is because the deity is ideally kept facing east and when not possible, facing west. Other directions are not considered good for the Puja ghar.
      If you want to light diyas in other places like the entrance of the house or in rooms, you may light diya during sandhya- dawn and dusk.
      2 lamps on either side of the house entrance door are beneficial to invite Lakshmi Devi. Evenings are most popular among people because it is the onset of night, the time when negative energies dominate. And also when snakes and other nocturnal s emerge. A lamp in every room will help to cleanse the spaces, but be sure to use beneficial oils or ghee alone. Do refer to the above video for those detaisl. I hope I have answered your question. 🙏🏽

    Namaskaram, and thank you for the video! I tried to burn ghee lamp with similar round cotton wicks, but the cotton wick burns very fast, and round part of the wick is in flames in few minutes. Why does this happen, am I doing something wrong?

    • @VedikHeritage
      @VedikHeritage  Рік тому +1

      Namaskaram 🙏🏽 . I think I had mentioned towards the end of the video that you may use the long wicks if you want a long burning lamp. Those can be kept on for hours, even days when required.
      Coming back to the round ball wicks. You may keep them immersed in a quantity of ghee, then they can burn longer.The science is about providing enough ghee for it to travel up the wick. When ghee is only available in a soaked ball wick, it burns down quickly and can be used for a short 5 minute pooja and it does burst into flames by the end. Such small balls are good for arthis only. When used for a longer time, make sure it is keep immersed in a container with enough ghee to last a while. When you are done with the worship, you may douse the lamp using a flower or leaf.

    If v hv a ongoing wick and it is putt off by us after sometime, can it b used the next time or it is important to discard and take a fresh wick, please tell.

    • @VedikHeritage
      @VedikHeritage  2 роки тому

      Traditionally a fresh wick and newly cleaned lamp is recommended every time. Especially for ghee lamps as it burns well when fresh.
      But, by practice, for oil lamps both lamp and wick can be used a few times. One guruji recommended for us to cut away the used black portion and then use the wick. In our South Indian homes, lamps are changed every morning or atleast every Tuesday and Friday mornings. So it is preferable to have 2 lamps to rotate.
      If there is a gap or a day or 2 between lighting lamps, like when you go on vacation and return, please use only a fresh lamp and wick.
      Please follow what is convenient to you, due to our busy lifestyles.It is better to light a lamp in.a convenient fashion because many may give up lighting itself otherwise.

    • @VedikHeritage
      @VedikHeritage  2 роки тому

      If by on going wick you mean an akhand deep, then it would be good to discard and start fresh as it has already been lit for a long time and the ghee within it is also old.

    Hi
    Can I use olive oil or a combination of oils ???
    does it matter which way the wick is pointing when you light it ???
    Thanks.

    • @VedikHeritage
      @VedikHeritage  7 місяців тому

      I have replied in earlier comments that I cannot say about olive oil because there is no information in India about its effects. Mixing oils also is usually done in specific proportions and therefore it is simpler to stick to one oil at a time.
      As for wick direction, east and west direction for lamp and wick is best. We do not align lamp north- south.

    Namaste Didi 🙏. While lighting the ghee lamp, should I have to completely melt the ghee and make it like liquid before adding it to Diya ? Because they say if the oil or ghee is thick or solid in the lamp, it brings hurdles or slowness in our life's work also. Please let me know about ghee. Whether I should melt it as liquid before pouring inside the lamp ? Because usually ghee would become thick like solid in the bottle everyday. Kindly respond 🙏.

    • @VedikHeritage
      @VedikHeritage  4 місяці тому

      Namaste.🙏🏽 If the ghee is solid in the bottle, then please feel free to place some ghee in hot water and melt it before using it. But, if it is thick but pouting consistency, you may use it because the heat from the lamp itself melts it. I don’t think in summers in India we need to worry much, it melts immediately once the lamp is lit.

      @gabriela, that is a terracotta lamp. Many such lamps are available in India especially during the festival of Deepavali. But the 5 faced lamp is available in brass throughout the year. You may check online for that.

    • @VedikHeritage
      @VedikHeritage  Рік тому +2

      Hari Om, Hima ji, please use what was traditionally used at home. 2 wicks together or a single one are used in most homes. For festivals and special occasions people use many faced diyas. I find many versions of information each contradicting the other. If you stay with the tradition of your house, you can be safe. If I come across a well versed person and can get authentic information, I will surely make a video on that. Thank you for your interest 🙏🏽

    Any tricks to for cotton sticks light properly. usually I soak them an hr before. still in between pooja they get off

    • @VedikHeritage
      @VedikHeritage  2 роки тому

      Hari Om. I think you re talking of the cotton rope wicks. They re made by twisting 2 cotton yearns, so already they are tightly twisted. That is why the ghee is not equally absorbed by the full wick. I suggest you lightly untwist the rope first , don’t open it fully, just untwist the tightness. That way, there is gap between the ropes for ghee to be absorbed. You will see that more ghee is required to soak up all the parts of the now looser wick. Top up the ghee once or twice to soak it fully. Then I think there will be no issue of turning off during Puja. Best wishes🙏🏽

    Mam I used ghee lamp in summer but now in winter ghee become solid and wick stop burn .....how can I use ghee lamp in winter ...plz tell if u have any solution..thanks

    • @VedikHeritage
      @VedikHeritage  Рік тому

      Hari Om Chandershekharji. For winter you can use the pre-soaked round ball wicks shown in the video. If you make it a big enough ball soaked in ghee, it can last a longer time. But it you want to burn the long string wicks , for these alos I recommend first soaking the wicks in melted ghee. You first pour melted ghee into the lamp and then soak the wicks into the pot of melted ghee. Once soaked insert the wick into the lamp and then light the pre-soaked wick. If it is left for a long time, if some of the ghee hardens in peak winter, then you need to keep moving the ghee in the lamp manually towards the flame. The heat of the flame keeps the tip of the wick warm and any ghee you move towards it will melt. But for this, you must be sitting in front of the lamp and melt the ghee form time to time. But for a regular puja, starting with melted ghee should be enough for the lamp to brun i winter. Hari Om.

      It is advisable to use a freshly washed lamp everyday if you can. But, in some households, where the lamps used are large, there is the habit of changing lamps every Tuesday and Friday. And definitely for any festival date.
      If you choose to reuse the lamp, use smaller wicks so that you can change the wicks regularly. You may also cut away the black end of a used wick before lighting again, if the wick is longer. The idea is to have a clean space, clean lamp, clean oil and clean wick. So use a cloth to wipe out the black mark and oil stains from the lamp before lighting.
