Something I do quite often when getting close to shore is just uncleat the rudder line, but not pull it up. It will stay down on its own, unless you hit something which will cause it to kick up.

We are a group of 7 Hobie Adventure Islanders from Byron Bay and have been watching your channel and taking notes . Thank you for making all the mistakes we are learning from
We just got back from a 7 day from Yeppoon to Humpy and Keppel islands , sail and camp out .june2-12. Had good and bad winds , some breakdowns and a lot of fun . 2 older type AI took on a bit of water as they sit quite low
Easter this year 3 of us did Urungan Harbour to West coast fraser . Bare bones camping . 20-25 knot winds on return which showed us what these little craft are able to handle

It’s great to have a chance to get back out on the water again , between work ,renovations and bad weather must of been 6 months , way too long
Bilge works great , ultimately I may go to a fixed manual bilge so I don’t rely on my batteries , bad things always seem to happen all at once if you know what I mean or may run the two systems
I have modified it but Derek from the trip gave me some advice on some additional stuff that should help seal it

Your bow looked a little low. Were you front heavy? Or just heavily loaded all round. I'd have loved to do something like that but I'm a little inexperienced as yet. It's a town in a county called Cumbria on the border between Scotland and England. It's where the Lake district national park is. The town is named after the joining of two rivers called the Cocker and Derwent. The end of the river Cocker flows into the river Derwent within the town. It's the mouth of the river Cocker hence the name Cockermouth. I'd bet for sure someone from this town named that island. 👍
