Do you know the story behind her awesome talent? She has always been singing, but when she was 20 years old and newly married she got cancer in her stomach and had to go through several operation. Because of this, she can never have children. But being member of the church she got people praying for her, and she survived the cancer. Because of this she sees her life a gift from God, and she wanted to dedicate her life and singing to Him. She said she wants her singing to comfort people who are in pain, telling them “I see you- I’ve been there”. She has since then almost exclusively been singing at churches at home and abroad, at charity events, or events to honor other artist - meaningful events, and avoided taking part in the big music industry. She has been contacted many times by international managers who could help her getting famous here in the West (she is famous in Asia, despite her limited performances), but she has always refused. Now she is about 40 years old (she looks so much younger!) and the last few years she has been participating in South Korean music contests on TV. When she first started singing on these TV shows she was very conflicted if this was the right thing to do. But then she saw a woman in the audience crying while she was singing, and she realised that her calling was to reach out to everyone who is hurting, not just people in church. ❤️ She not only has an outstanding talent and the most beautiful voice, her singing touches people in a way that is hard to explain, a gift from above.
Per Sohyang's own words in an interview, when she was very young, she wanted to sing, but was awful, and she kept praying that God would help to make her a good singer, and once she started singing better and better, she said she would always sing for God. Things started getting out of hand for her during the Masked Singer, when she had to rap, and that took it too far and she did not like herself for that, and almost quit, but decided to keep going but to get back to what brought her there, which was singing for God. Most of her songs had lyrics that were caring, or loving or helping, and that was good enough, but the rap song was the one that ended it.She does not wish to be famous, and thats why most have still not heard of her, even though she has been a singer for a long time now. Her cancer she had was uterine cancer, and thats why she cannot have children.

ARIRANG contains a series of mixed emotions, called as a.k.a "HAN" in Korean, such as sadness, happiness, hardness, bittersweet, anger, melancholy and wish/hope all in one as a accumulated blackhole. Since Korea had been invaded by China and Japan for last five thousand years, they underwent so many tragedies being slaved, kidnapped, raped, and murdered. In spite of these, Koreans could overcome against internal and external issues by hardworking while being formed as song formation when they were working. This why ARIRANG feels like a bomb of so many kinds of emotions. I do appreciate to those countries saved Korea from Japan's illegal occupation/colonization. We could not see the light of independence if those countries did not help us against Japan. Thank you, world. Thank you USA.
