    The personal statement in a residency application is of utmost importance. You may have secured solid letters of recommendation from physicians and done well on your USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination), but your personal statement is the one aspect of your application where you can make a case for yourself and personalize it. It's the only part of your application that you have complete control over.
    Residencies receive thousands of applications. They also read thousands of personal statements so they really want to see something that will stand out to them and make them want to give you an interview.
    Your personal statement is an opportunity to show program directors specific qualities that make you, YOU! Residency programs want to know the real you, apart from the good scores and letters of recommendation.

    A solid way to interest the reader, is by starting out- like the very first words, with recollection of a defining moment during training (or life). Doesn’t have to be spectacular; but if it’s animated and vivid, and also has a dash of conflict, that’s your hook.

      But also please to anyone who is reading this, circle back at the end. And keep one consistent theme. It's always odd to me when I read a statement about someone talking about the garden that they grew up in or the first time they wrote an elephant and it's one paragraph and then they never come back to that theme.

    So should it be 1 page on eras or 1 page on word

    • @mywaterfountain
      @mywaterfountain Рік тому +4

      Eras. That's how we print it out / review it in an application. Rule of thumb is that you always want to modify things for how the person reviewing it will be reading it. Not in the format that you are writing it on.

    The personal statement is the most stupid document to enter medical school peculiar to the USA.
    It is a scientific field, trying to use sociology paradigms.
    How many personal statements are realized in the future?
    It is moneyball. The cost of medical school is investment for future earnings.

      Everything about entering Residency in the USA is bizzare. No other country does this crap
