- When will we wake up and see what we are doing to our water, our wildlife, and our health? Yes, we. We are all at fault for letting our waters get this bad, We let others tell us that we must spray to kill weeds. We let them tell us that it would cost thousands more if we didn't spray and got rid of unwanted vegetation without spraying. They did not tell us that it is going to take millions of dollars to fix the problems made by saving a few thousand in the process. We let them tell us that the spraying was safe and not a problem, and helped the water. They are not going to stop unless WE wake up and say NO MORE. Wake up before it is too late.

That's so sad. I just saw a report of the record deaths. They mentioned the starvation from lack of sea grass due chemicals in the runoff. I agree .... WE NEED TO FIX THIS. I appreciate the report. Thanks.

Elected officials across the entire state need to be held accountable through future elections. They have the power to pass laws that would help clean up our waterways. Phosphorus mines and Big Sugar need to be held accountable as well, and pay for the damage they have caused throughout Charlotte Harbor, The Indian River Lagoon, and Tampa Bay.
Jerry, and it is We the People that need to hold them accountable. The people need to wake up and stop it.

It is a shame that some people don't give a dam about this situation , and the worst part most of them live water front and they are the nerve to yell when blue algea appear. It is a nonsens!!!

I came across one in Mims just before the holidays. It was a baby, maybe 4' at the most. Looked liked it had just died. No signs of trauma that I could see (gator attack/prop scars) and absolutely zero grass in that area. We did get a couple cold fronts come through but I don't think that temperature drop is what killed him. Starvation is what I think took him down. I spend a lot of time on the water and surprisingly this was the first time coming across one, considering the current health of our waterways and the record number of deaths we are having. We are so close to the point of no return....I don't want to say past but pretty damn close!
It is time to turn it around.

It is shameful. The spray boats emptying barrels of spray every single day is really troubling. The water has gone to crap since they started that.

I witnessed two giant Gar that were dead in the water at the Dale Wimbrow boat launch about a week ago. I also noticed your footage of the dead bass and other fish in your video. I wonder if someone dumped chemicals in the water at the Dale Wimbrow boat launch?
I have not seen any chemicals being dumped around Dale Wimbrow. The video of the dead fish was taken in the Indian River Lagoon.
@@palmbeachpete - It was just strange seeing those two dead giant Gar right on the Dale Wimbrow boat launch then your video on the dead Manatee. Surely, it's coincidence, but it's still strange. Those Gar were at least four foot long each.

Good point, and very much so. It needs to stop.
This is the only thing I miss about New England…the fertilizers and herbicides are almost as bad as the boot black that got dumped into the Andrscoggin River which prompted the clean air/water act.

Did you ever learn if the fish in the lagoon are safe to eat?
They are still getting information. The safest fish to eat so far are the ones that eat plants and seagrass, like mullet. The fish at the top of the food chain like snook, trout and redfish are at the top of the list for having things like mercury. More test need to be done. Check ORCA for more information on the testing.
@@palmbeachpete Thanks Pete, will do. I'm curious about seasonal visitors like pompano, flounder, and sheepshead. I'm assuming those are safer because they only spend part of of year in the lagoon.

What can we do to start the sea grass back growing on a local level?
